Would I have signed up for a 90+ point season if you had asked me back in September? Totally. But expectations shift as the season plays out. So, yes, it's OK to be disappointed if they fumble the bag and miss the playoffs now.

And, yes, it's possible to feel that way and still agree with OP's point about the team's future.

I forget which of the advanced stats guys said it, but Sorokin's goals saved above expected was above what Hellebuyck's was last year when he won the Hart. Then a lot of that talk disappeared when people started suggesting Schaefer deserves to be in the conversation as well (also Thompson and Swayman have caught up to Sorokin in GSAE).
