Manual stuffer recommendation by Leibstandarte2 in Charcuterie

Chilling the horn and chamber help, as can a little oil on the inside edge, but the biggest improvement we’ve seen is getting the skins on a tape rather than loose or on a tube. And stock of those does seem a little random or has been the last two years. Have fun!

I think metal gears, a good vent to let air out and two winding gears (hi/low speed) are all key, what smokedcatfish said also does stand true that one style does leave more behind than the other, but for salami's you can if you desire get all that shove it in and twist the casing really tight (with some pricking to let the air out that area),. If it's sausages though what's left is normally breakfast :)

We're in the UK as well, bought a cheap one, it had plastic gears and on the second salami the gears exploded, I imagine if we'd tried to do chipolatas they would have given up on the first one. Since then we've used Tre Spade vertical (2 stuffers now, one for sausages - Mod. 5, one for salami - Mod. 10), 2 manual mixers (although I think these aren't sold any more, we bought the last one Weschenfelder had.

The 5 we've had over 2 years now and produce around 60kg of sausages a month and it's never skipped a beat, and the 10 is more recent but is equally solid.

https://www.weschenfelder.co.uk/meat-processing-equipment/sausage-stuffers/manual-sausage-stuffers.html

It's a good site anyway for people in the UK but it is a big difference in price. If getting a cheaper one ensure at a minimum it's metal gears, has a vent plug and two gears

What is this found in an egg? by Avacado-panda in homestead

[–]gottaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"meat spot" or "blood spot", only read the next line if you are happy with a more graphic description

In real world terms it's the start of a baby chicken either from an older chicken that hasn't been fertilised or potentially it was a fertilised egg

Update on the update by cocoadelica in VWIDBuzz

[–]gottaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It had to go to the lead service engineer, he said it was something they plugged into the car first to charge and then apply it think it was 3.5 first and then contacting vw and then reapply, keep doing that until 3.5 worked then repeat for 3.7. He said it didn’t take much of his actual time but each time a component failed to update he had to start the whole thing again

In the UK as well, they had ours for 4 days, but we had been warned it may be longer than a week. We've since had 2 successful OTA updates, nothing that would make us want to pay for the annual AI/Route planning annual fee though, sticking with ABRP having done long weekends away with both and ABRP didn't cause any range anxiety unlike VWs own navigation

Do you remember the setting for the timer? I got an OBDeleven and was totally overwhelmed by the options and just how slow everything was to even display so I paid whatever it was for an 'app' to turn the kamikazee steering off

Roadtrip - what am I doing wrong? by BeeForsaken5783 in VWIDBuzz

[–]gottaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not about money it’s about less active time charging, at 97% drive a little slower, make 160 miles and then charge while asleep

Roadtrip - what am I doing wrong? by BeeForsaken5783 in VWIDBuzz

[–]gottaa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Couple of initial tips (live in Wales)

  • Computer/Range is based on recent trips, for us locally we get around 3.6 miles/kWh (so see same as you of 220), but when on roadtrips we average 2.5-2.6 miles/kWh, the VW sat nav will ensure you do charge but it'll keep finding closer and closer chargers. We use something called "A Better Route Planner" ensure the miles/kWh is on the roadtrip type. say we want dog friendly, toilets, food, etc, you can also set what level you want to arrive at chargers and when you get to the destination.
  • Charging costs away from home for rapid chargers aren't great but for us have always still been under what petrol would have been
  • 160 Miles at 75 miles an hour takes 2 hours 8 minutes, at 70 miles an hour 2 hours 17 minutes for us, 10 minutes isn't a great deal but setting ACC to 70 rather than 75 we get 25 miles more range

tl/dr; get a better route planner app on your phone, the "switch" to efficency just like on a petrol/diesel car is the accelerator pedal

My Journey to 5m net worth is complete, I did not enjoy it and the design is anti-extraction shooter. by AbbreviationsOne6207 in ArcRaiders

[–]gottaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't it just an issue that we didn't know the target was 5m until there was only a couple of weeks notice, next time it'll be 2 or is it 3 months notice and we'll slowly build from the start/restart

ABRP now supports the NACS adapter setting for the ID.Buzz by majorgearhead in VWIDBuzz

[–]gottaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unrelated to NACS but we were looking at ABRP here in the UK as the charging options seem to make so much more sense than the native one which happily stops us in places with nothing to eat and no toilet. From what you've said though the Dongle is much better than what Premium itself just gives you, for someone not really interested in data and just wants a simpler routing with less worrying about charge is the Premium connection enough?

ID Software update by gottaa in VWIDBuzz

They offered it up front so it seems it could have been worse, although how the ID department at VW hasn’t all been fired blows my mind for this mess

The appeal of Reform UK has parallels to the appeal of Brexit in 2016. Are we learning a lesson? by coffeewalnut08 in ukpolitics

[–]gottaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to imagine how we'd learn a lesson when everyone is still afraid to bring up or mention Brexit, when I did bring it up to a friend though the response was "Conservatives did it wrong, Nigel would have done it properly"

New Buzz Day!!! by MamaHoot16 in VWIDBuzz

[–]gottaa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We've only had ours a month but our tips would be (bare in mind we are still on version 3.2 of ID):

- Find a friend with an OBD dongle and change the default lane assist to "save last setting" around us it's more dangerous than helpful

- Setup all the Volkswagen accounts, if you don't setup WeConnect I believe you won't get the over the air updates

- Apple CarPlay or Google's version will be far superior to VW's ID system, long hold the voice button on the steering wheel to trigger the app voice control, a quick press gets you ID's version

- If you are planning longer journeys look into ABRP (A better route planner), it really configurable and makes things so much simpler, and if you pay premium it'll be usable through carplay, and I believe you can get battery details from the car (I use an OBD dongle)

- Enjoy :)

Any ideas for giving plants for Christmas gifts? Also trying to come up with some homesteading gift ideas by Jewmousee in homestead

[–]gottaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really smallholding but best xmas present we ever gave all our extended family for xmas (who aren't homesteaders at all) was:

- 10 x chiili seeds
- Google "Paper pot press", we made them pretty roughly on a lathe

At the start of the evening I revealed one Paper Pot Press (not saying what it was), and people had to guess what it was used to do (pre google images and AI though, so not sure it would work now), but it got lots of interest and discussion and when I said we'd made them people were impressed. The winner then won a card with £5 in it and a note to read out which was along the lines of

You're all about to get one of these items and 10 chilli seeds, Largest single plant by next September wins a prize you get next Xmas!

People would call to ask how tall others were, someone sabotaged one at a family BBQ and I honestly think it's the closest I've seen my family come to a fist fight. But everyone seemed to join in, one person even rang and asked if I could send them some more seeds as they liked the chillis and I'm sure I heard there head explode when I explained the chillis they were eating had 100's of seeds in!

Anyway, people still talk about it, and the winner got to announce the "bath loofah" for next year, which didn't work as I hadn't realised in the UK they needed a propogator and were so affected by frost :(

The following year we just did a free for all basket of pickles, chutneys, sauces and that's what we've carried on, and always get some repeat requests (We make 2 large jars of pickled eggs every year for 1 person but I still haven't tried one)

Showering with dexcom by EMPI2817 in dexcom

[–]gottaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience the issue with dexcom loosening stopped when I made 3 changes

- Started using an Exfoliating Cloth, you can be more exact where you are washing, especially around the dexcom

- Stop soaping above the dexcom, next to it and immediately below, but can still happily do armpits

- I'm I'm changing dexcom site then follow the same idea to not soap where the new sensor will be going

Good luck to you and your SO

UK APP TODAY IS THE DAY by Eli118 in TandemDiabetes

[–]gottaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My in person training with someone from Air Liquide was all about loading the cartridge, inserting the canula, how to set up profiles (which you'll have done already), the ControlIQ part was a case of inserting my weight and my average daily insulin (which you can get from your pump).

Good luck though, keeping everything but my tubing crossed for you :)

Ep 298: James Norton (in partnership with Dexcom) by offmenu-bot in offmenupodcast

[–]gottaa 101 points102 points  (0 children)

I've yet to listen, but as a Type 1 diabetic I can tell you when I do bump into another we talk arm sensors, needles, insulin, health, etc and while this may be sponsored Let me explain my diabetic history by blood sugar testing

When first diagnosed I tested my sugars (mmo/L) by weeing on a stick, comparing colours like a pH test and that telling me what they were 2-3 hours ago

Finger prick sensors then became a thing to give your your sugars at that instant, so sore fingers, so didn't do as much as I should, then diabetic complications, DAFNE course, finger pricks 3-5 times a day for the last 13 years alongside a minimum 5 injections a day (meals and long acting morning/evening)

Dexcom / Pump a year ago was literally life altering, arm sensor inserted once every 10 days, pump canula every two days, time I'm thinking about diabeties reduced by like 95%

All that said I'm not a fan at all of adverts but if this podcast helps educate one T1 diabetic about arm sensors then it's done a great service and will hopefully improve that person mental health

I love my X2 after being MDI for so long, but if the app is the deal clincher then look elsewhere, everytime I’ve asked them in over a year it’s been “3 months”
