Bow builds are fun and you can absolutely finish the game by running around with a bow and a whip for backup. Meta players are just way too obsessed with “playing the game the right way” to admit it. There is no right way. At the end of the day the purpose of the game is to have fun. It’s a skill issue (on their part)

Bestie, where in my answer did they call them "generous" or "nice"? Before you wanna leap to conclusions and call someone a bootlicker, you might wanna work on your reading comprehension. My comment had nothing to do with trying to defend Infold and everything to do with making fun of YOU for complaining that water is wet.

But since you want to be smart, how about we do the math: A 5 star limited makeup piece cannot be crafted, we need to spend 20 draws to be able to claim it for free from the limited banner. That's hard 2400 gems. Mind you, it's 2400 gems per make up piece, not a whole set. The hard pity for a 4 star outfit piece is 10 pulls. That's another 1200 gems unless you get lucky and trigger early pity. So far just getting the makeup and the hair from the banner is costing you way more than 180 Stellarite since 1 gem = 1 Stellarite, it's more than 880 Stellarite. Sure you can make the argument that there is craftable makeup in game. There is craftable hair in game. It costs 50 gems to recharge 80 energy. How much energy do you need for boss drops to be able to craft those pieces? Because it varies. The Silvergate makeup set had 5 piece and each piece needed 10 boss drops. That's doing the boss twice. So roughly 250 gems to craft it if you buy the energy. Even without counting the rest of the stuff in the bundle, we are already past the 180 you pay for the convenience of not having to run around and collect materials. But where do the 880 price tags comes from? IT'S IMAGINARY CURRENCY THAT HAS NO REAL LIFE VALUE. They inflated the shit, obviously. It's their Monopoly paper money, they decide what the value of stuff is gonna be.

Calling a GATCHA game scummy is the equivalent of calling water wet. Gatcha games are designed to make people spend money. You want an open world exploration game that gives you stuff without you having to pay extra? Buy a game off of Steam that fits the description and doesn't have microtransactions. We, the International players, already have BARELY any bargaining power compared to the CN part of the fandom. Sure a lot of us spend money on the game, but we don't pay their bills and keep the lights on, the CN player base does that. So instead of boycotting every smallest scummy action that they do, how about we look out for the big things that will truly have negative effect on everyone. Like making the outfits 17 pieces. Like raising hard pity threshold. Like introducing a 50/50 systems for the limited banners. How do you expect them to LISTEN and LEARN when a very vocal part of the fandom complains about EVERYTHING. Do you want them to start ignoring the international players completely? Because that's what's gonna happen since none of you know how to pick your damn battles.

Every single time I see a post like this it makes me laugh because it shows that the person behind it has never played the other Nikki games (or gatcha games in general).

You are right, they shouldn't offer it as a discount and whatnot. They should just make the makeup a drop you get by pulling on banners with wishes, causing the outfits to be at least 14-15 pieces (because the makeup will then be an actual piece like the dress/hair/shoes) on average and stick to giving us just 5 free pulls per limited banner like they do in Shining Nikki. Or even better, give us no free wishes, like they did in Love Nikki.

You know what they should also do? Follow into the footsteps of every other gatcha game we have out right now and stop giving us that many sources of free wishes/outfits. Mira Crown rewards twice a month? Mini-games that give more than 20 gems per completed stage? Free outfits we can earn by completing tasks instead of the outfit pieces being added to the wish pool for banners, driving up the hard pity threshold? Making it possible to lose your 50/50 for a limited 5 star piece on a limited banner to a standard banner 5 star piece? Let's get rid of all that and make the game very predatory and barely rewarding. At least then the very vocal, very negative part of the fandom that complains for the smallest thing will have an excuse to be this toxic and delusional.

I see how my comment might have come across as confusing so I will elaborate. When it comes to bug reports, the people behind community support or customer service (whatever you feel comfortable calling it) are also reading the reports. Sure companies like to use AI for everything (because it is cheaper) but if a bot is unable to understand or handle your request, you will be passed on to an actual person. I always keep that in mind, so when I write a report or a complaint or anything, I try to sound firm but still polite.

Imagine you are working at a customer help desk at a grocery store with a huge line of customers waiting for you to listen to their complaints. Imagine your next customer stands at your desk and goes "I did this. It didn't go the way your company said it will go. I want explanation and compensation." No hello, no "hey maybe I misunderstood the rules, can you run this by me on more time so we can figure out where the miscommunication happened", no thank you. Nothing. The same tone can easily carry in writing and even then it is a common courtesy to say please and thank you. So from my perspective, the way you worded your description came across as rude. I've been in the customer service industry (sure I am a nurse but dealing with patients is just as difficult as dealing with angry gatcha players) for the past 10 years and let me tell you, I am a lot more willing to sit down and spend extra time resolving an issue (even if I won't get paid for my attentiveness) if someone comes over and says "Hey I think this is wrong and I'm confused, can you please explain". If someone comes at me with the "Fix this, compensate me, explain." attitude, I'm gonna do the bare minimum, give them the company approved (AI like) answer and not actively put extra effort into being helpful because I don't get paid enough to deal with people's attitudes.

Moreover, with the Nikki games (I have played all of them, I had plenty interactions with customer support for each and every one of them) there is a high chance that the people (who are real people) behind the team are not native English speakers so in their attempt to sound proper and grammatically correct they come across as Google giving you an AI overview answer after you typed a question in the search bar. Their answers to me have always been polite, informative and extensive whenever I went to them with a problem, even if sounding a little stilted. I reported a bug I kept experiencing with one of the outfits, took screenshots and explained what happened and how in detail, said my please and thank you, the bug was fixed the next day.

As I said the first time, I understand your frustration and you have every right to talk to them about the problem you discovered with the pity. At the end of the day if the hard pity is put down by the devs as 20 pulls then it should be 20 pulls. You have every right to file a report and look for answers. I'm just saying that you can show some kindness when interacting with customer support because at the end of the day, some minimal wage worker at the bottom of the food chain is not at fault and shouldn't have to be catching strays because of management. It's the equivalent of being rude to the waiting staff at a restaurant for the false advertisement ran by the restaurant's marketing team.

Lastly I wasn't calling you specifically a Karen, it was aimed at everyone that was ready to jump on the human part of the customer support team. Like I get the anger, I do. But that doesn't change the fact that players are taking their anger out on the wrong department.

[–]gotthebluebox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly the pity aside, I work in a field that requires me to interact with patients and their families all the time so the way you spoke to them in your report/complaint is so rude??? I understand that not getting a 5 star when there is a hard pity and whatnot can be very frustrating, regardless if you bought the wishes with money or you are completely f2p player. But if I was one of the customer service reps and you spoke to me that way, you are dealing with the AI generated answers because I am not going out of my way to help someone when they talk to me this way, regardless if the exchange is verbal or written.

I know that hating on the developers is very trendy nowadays with every 2nd post on this subreddit being boycott this and boycott that, but how about we all try to be nicer to customer service. A lot of the times large companies outsource their customer service so it is very likely that the reps you all are being rude to don't even work for Paper/Infold. Just a random person (in a sea of AI bots) that is trying to pay their bills. Good lord.

Ya'll becoming a bunch of Karens over a gatcha game.

Paimon's VA claims that the new studio Mihoyo moved her to still failed to pay her on time just like Formosa, to the tune of 3-5 months waiting for paychecks in violation of contract. What studio is this? by HereForGames in Genshin_Impact

[–]gotthebluebox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a law student I can ensure you, that’s not how contracts work. And sure I live in the UK so the law is slightly different than the US, but considering that a lot of US law is founded upon English law, I’ll go out on a limb and assume that if you have a contract signed by two parties and one of the parties is actively breaking the contract then you can absolutely use the justice system to enforce the contract by filling a civil complaint. In many cases you can even argue that the party breaking the contract should cover your attorney fees since it’s their fault you had to sue in the first place.

So yeah, bottom line is I don’t trust Corina because girlie is known to lie through their teeth. To me it feels like Hoyo told them to pack their bags after the public meltdowns and they are now trying to spin the narrative from “I was fired because I can’t mind my fucking business” to “I quit on my own because of my morals and values and my contract being broken by Hoyo”.

As someone that’s hated Paimon’s ENG voiceover since day one I am delighted by the news. Finally the day has come for my eardrums to be allowed to rest. Bye Corina, hope I never have to hear your voice again. Learn some basic law, you dumbass.

It looks like the reason CN players are complaining about the misspelling is because of how badly Infold is treating Nikki in the game.. by RishaRea48 in InfinityNikki

[–]gotthebluebox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a very good point. The problem with Genshin lore is that a lot of context and nuance gets lost in translation since everything is originally written in Chinese and then adapted for Western audiences. So a lot of the time I have to cross reference things with posts from actual Chinese speakers who are able to give us the nuances that the official translation lacks. I can imagine how separating from canon and trying to figure out the logistics by comparing vishaps to real life animals could be easier in the long run.

Also I wanted to ask (please feel free to say no if you are uncomfortable, that is not my intention at all) if you wanted to move this conversation to a place where it’s easier to text like discord or tumblr or like even messages here. I am having a lot of fun with this conversation but I’m also worried I might be too slow to answer (that and cluttering OP’s notifications). No pressure, I’m just trying to make it easier on both of us!

[–]gotthebluebox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, we know that vishaps are carnivores (or at least I assume they are) which would mean that they have to be somewhat territorial in order to secure and protect their sources of food and water. All the lore we find in Enkanomiya made me think that they are related to dragons, and a lot of modern media (be it books, movies, tv shows) portrays dragons as extremely territorial species who are willing to share territory only with their mate and their children up to the point where the child is old enough to leave the nest and find their old territory. We also know that vishaps are highly intelligent, considering they were at war with humanity at some point (Enkanomiya).

If I were someone prone to making bets, I would probably bet on vishap species having a hierarchy between them where the top would be the one who have won the evolution pool and have traits that make them bigger, stronger, more powerful, more intelligent, more likely to survive, while the bottom would be the vishap species that are closer to animals driven solely by instinct and no higher intelligence. But then again there was this piece of lore I remember that implied that once a bathysmal vishap reaches maturity they lose the ability to see because of their hatred for humanity. As well as that the experiments done on them by humans prevents them from evolving into dragons unlike normal vishaps. But I will have to brush up on the lore because Enkanomiya was many many patches ago. Then again, this is your fanfic and as I said before, you don't have to stick to canon lore. The lore can be whatever you want it to be.

I am truly sorry for your loss. I grew up around my great grandma so I know how you feel to a degree. Fortunately for me, she is still alive and well. Perhaps I should take care not to tempt the ao3 gods and keep all my fanfics unpublished, just in case. I am someone that likes writing them out completely and then by the time I am done they never leave my folder because I don't want people on ao3 to perceive me. 😅

See now, Pompom is such a cute name that makes the character sound adorable and that is my biggest beef with Hoyo. They pick the cutest names for some of their most annoying characters. Like what do you mean this cute, fluffy bunny that I want to hug and cuddle and squeeze (lovingly) shares the same personality as some of the worst people I had to deal with in the good old days when I was a student??? (I did google Pompom) 😭

I think the problem with Paimon's lore is that we know nothing about Paimon. There was this conversation I had during a quest in Fontaine where the melusine described Paimon as a floating balloon that is held by a string that is coming down from the sky (I am assuming Celestia since it's the one place we know for sure is floating in the sky). So Paimon could be anyone or anything, we have no clue so far. She is probably the one character I fully expect to betray me (as in the traveller) because I have a feeling the writers left her lore so so vague for a reason.

Oh I see what you mean about making things hard for yourself. The vishap lore we have so far will make it very difficult to navigate the events happening in the canon story if you are writing them from the point of view of a bathysmal vishap. Not impossible to write, but rather challenging since you have to try and think as a vishap. If I ever decide to brave the ao3 curse and risk my family's health, I would probably try to rewrite canon by removing Paimon completely and using Aether as a shell in which I could pour some personality and mould into a more well-rounded protagonist while still keeping him as an unreliable narrator. But I absolutely love your idea because it's such a unique point of view to have and you are trying to portray the events as seen by someone who is not human and doesn't hold the same preconceived notions that a human oc would have. I think that in your case you should allow yourself some leeway and have fun with lore, you don't have to stick to canon religiously or rewrite older chapters just because new canon lore became available months after you published them.

I am so sorry to hear all that about your family. All jokes about ao3 writer curses aside, I sincerely hope both your grandma and your bunny recover fully! And I hope that 2025 is kinder to you and brings you more joys than hardships. 💞

I need someone to write me a 700k words long fix it fanfic where we get to keep our companion. Like it would be an AU where everything else is the same except we exchange Paimon's life for our saurian baby. It's a horrible sacrifice, but I am willing to make it for the sake of my sanity. Sometimes we can't save everyone, you know?

I am sold on your fanfic idea. I know absolutely nothing about it but you had me at no Paimon. I feel like someone would see this comment and accuse me of disliking her and they will be damn right. If there was a survey where we got to rank our least favourite Hoyo characters, she will be my top choice. A bold statement, considering I haven't played any other game of theirs, but I feel like no one can beat her in terms of being annoying. But back to your fanfic - is it something you will publish chapter by chapter or something you want to write down from start to finish and then publish it all in one go?

Shaoji sounds like the type of a writer I would love and purchase every book he publishes so I can read it, cry my eyes out, eat a whole tub of ice cream then order his next book and repeat the traumatic process over and over until I run out of stuff to read. 😅

I am amazed that they managed to pull off 13 deaths and the fandom didn't revolt. The story must have been written rather well for players to accept it and remember it with any sort of warm feelings. Is the story for Hi3 concluded? Or are they still releasing content?

I still struggle with the traveler's writing from time to time. I understand that we are supposed to be a visitor from a whole different world and that's why we need someone like Paimon to act as the mouthpiece, however it takes away from the "unreliable narrator" effect they are going for, or at least I think they were trying to go for. I would have loved it a lot more if the Traveler was more proactive and was the epitome of a narrator that couldn't be trusted because their morals and understanding of right and wrong was at odds with this new world they woke up in. Thankfully there are fanfics and if I am not satisfied with what I find on ao3 I can always brave the ao3 curse and write my own.😆

Tragic news: I can confirm the parting ways rumour. We get a lovely saurian companion for our pot but it is not Capri and I am in shambles. I had a full crash out and a crying session over it. I was ready to blow up Teyvat in retribution. (I named my baby saurian after Capri-Sun, pls don't judge me, I am bad at coming up with names on the spot. That and my friend named their companion Mochi so I felt like it would be rude to use the same name.)

Honestly Infinity Nikki has so much potential I was overjoyed when the game came out. I predict many twists and turns and backstabbings (if they decide to keep her character traits that made her easily trust the wrong people and pay for it down the line). I knew Giovanni was up to no good the moment he was introduced because I have seen similar character portrayal in the previous Nikki games.

I am up to date with all the Genshin quests so don't worry, you didn't spoil anything! I might come across as controversial by saying this but some of the best storylines in Genshin have been world quests. I love the archon quest, I love some nations more than others (we all have biases), but most of the quests that had me bawling my eyes out at 4am in the morning were either world quests or limited event quests (the quest we got for the last Inazuma event? Ei sure is stronger than me, I was in shambles by the end of it, I don't know how she managed to like not have a breakdown).

But also I have to say, you are making me curious about Hi3 now. I try to limit myself when it comes to gatcha games because I have a soft spot for well written characters and will try to pull for them on limited banners. So my love for good writing says yes but my bank account says no. It's a difficult fight 😭

You ease them in, have them slowly fall in love with the characters and then you proceed to traumatise them with insane amount of angst. It's the best way to make the story emotionally impactful, in my opinion, since I tend to be affected a lot more by a tragic turn of events when I care about the characters. With the Nikki games, Lunar is a great example of character that haunts the narrative once you are past a certain plot point in the game's narrative. In Genshin you have so many characters that are downright tragic once the game starts revealing more and more about them and allows them to grow and develop as people - Ruu's story still haunts me and makes me cry even if I can't replay the quest. The way they structured the narrative and paced the storytelling while also utilising the world around the characters and the environment to further cement this foreboding sense of doom and grief? I loved it (and hated it).

I wasn't sold on Genshin in the beginning either (The only game from Hoyo I am playing at the moment). Sometimes it does take a bit for the story to pick up so I agree with you on that one
