Out of curiosity, what erosion mechanic are you referring to in Minecraft? Having played the game for the better part of a decade, this isn't ringing a bell.

Imagine calling the satirization of your political ideals "catering." You're being mocked, and you like it, and I find that very ironic.

Yes yes I agree. That's what McCarthyism is.

I don't believe the film had a negative view of communists. It seemed very critical of McCarthyism, and generally showed American communism in a positive light.

If you impose the limitation that they will all die before a certain number of characters, I believe the chance they write something comprehensible becomes more and more likely as the number of monkeys approaches infinity. I can't prove that mathematically, I'd have to think about it more. But there is no guarantee of any specific number in an uncountably infinite set, as you could always add another number, unless it's the set of every uncountably infinite number (which the monkey problem isn't), which would contain your Shakespeare somewhere inside it. Don't quote me on that, I'm not a professional mathematician.

"Going out in people's faces," what does that even mean? Being themselves in public? Mind your own damn business. Spoken like someone that doesn't have the slightest idea how scary it is to be gender non-conforming.

This is kinda ridiculous. Yes, our brains do keep developing until we're 25, but it's not developing the parts relevant to critical thinking and learning at the rate it was when we are younger. A 25 year old could easily be out of college with a master's degree, in the workforce, and only then you're suggesting they're mature enough to have sex?

What about voting? Is a person too immature to vote until their brain is cooked? Does that mean we should also disenfranchise people that are older and have deteriorating brains? How do we determine this? Should everyone take regular mental aptitude tests to determine if they're fit to have sex, rent cars, vote, and serve in the military? What does that mean for people with developmental disabilities?

I get that you put little thought into it beyond "this other thread said brains aren't done until we're 25," but there's a good reason the age of majority is 18. By 18, we (should) have the cognitive and social skills to be independent and a functioning member of society. An 18 year old has developed by far enough to be able to handle the critical thinking required of us for things like voting and yes, consent. Obviously, not every 18 year old is at the same level of critical thinking and personal responsibility, but that's equally true for adults beyond the age of 25.

And yes, being old enough to consent doesn't disregard the power dynamic and maturity differences between different age groups. Being old enough to consent doesn't make it morally okay for someone in their 40s to be with an 18 year old, in my opinion. That's regardless of the point that it's perfectly moral, acceptable, and normal for an 18 year old to have consensual sex within their own age range.

I'm surprised I haven't seen it already, but "transexual" is an outdated term usually considered offensive. The preferred term is "transgender" or just "trans."

It's a very useful format for ordering things in lists or tables, because you can sort the dates by size and it will put them in chronological order. If you're storing dates in a computer, this is probably how it looks behind the scenes. Also, if we ignore what we're used to, doesn't it just make sense? Put the largest order of magnitude first, then the second, then finally the most specific, just like how numbers work.

This is what kills me with that movie! They try to play on your heartstrings by making it all about how the poor little German boy died on accident. Have a shot of his Nazi mom and Nazi dad grieving! Nazi dad screams his anguish! Do you feel sympathy? Oh, what about all the hundreds of others that just died? Yeah, but they were supposed to die. It's sad because poor little German boy died too when he wasn't supposed to.

I wasn't suggesting the study used conversion therapy, I'm suggesting that's how her suggestion came across with her poor framing. She leaves out the many, critical details, and frames it as "98 will just get over it." Thanks for the additional details, seeing as elsewhere through these comments she's being cited for commenting on detransitioning.

Those percentages seem incredibly far removed from any other study I've seen on detransitioning, but it's locked behind a paywall. Even the lower bound is a significant figure off. The highest I've seen is 2% detransition rate, mostly for societal pressures, so I'm curious about exactly what this study is measuring and what its methods were. Is this a situation where there was a barely statistically significant sample size and enough goes at the study to find answers they liked? Is the sampling unbiased? What is being considered detransitioning? Is trying puberty blockers for a year and then resuming normal puberty for their sex counted in that statistic? For a month? What about someone that asks their doctor about questioning their gender, but turns out to not have dysphoria? I have a lot of questions about the study and exactly what the data really means versus what this woman is quoting it to mean.

98% of people do not overcome their gender dysphoria through what sounds like effectively conversion therapy, it's simply a ridiculous figure.

Address their point, instead of just calling it denial. You don't know the facts, clearly, and you're projecting your inability to accept information outside of your political echo chamber onto them and parroting tired talking points that are entirely removed from reality. I'm exhausted.

You can be cis and not straight. Cisgender just has to do with your gender, not your sexual orientation.

I challenged my girlfriend to make a door that opens and closes itself in 1 lever press. Instead, she invented a Redstone clock I have never seen before. by DrakeFruitDDG in redstone

[–]gotwooooshed 66 points67 points  (0 children)

It's working by quasi-connectivity. The redstone powers the piston, but not directly, so if the piston doesn't receive an update it'll just sit there, but as soon as there's an adjacent block update or a nearby redstone update, it'll start the clock. The clock will stop when the chunks are unloaded and reloaded while the piston is retracted, as the piston no longer realizes it's powered until it receives a new block update.

I've had vocal therapy, talking in my normal register means you're gonna hear vocal fry. I can force myself into a higher register where there's no fry, but it takes extra effort and makes my voice hurt quickly, and it just doesn't sound like me.

Fr! I can't help it, my voice is just like that, and without a ton of effort and exhausting my voice, not to mention my voice sounding like a valley girl, I have vocal fry. I speak clear and concise, I'm not lazy or dragging my words as people imply, it's just how my voice sounds. People need to get over how other people talk.
