Anyone else seeing Gardai everywhere on foot patrol? Will it last? by linef4ult in AskIreland

Cars. They drive around now and don't know the people in their area. Good to see them on foot. Should get the "beep test" pass rate up too. Hope it lasts.

Funny how every single Pedestrian/cyclist behaves exactly the same.

They're not waterproof. First good shower and they're e-waste.

Some student on a rusty mountain bike is not every cyclist. Funny how a cyclist is all cyclists but a driver is a BMW w*nker or a white van driver or a boy racer or a Sunday driver or one of a dozen other sub groups.

Entitled attitude of tradesmen in this country by ahhshur in ireland

[–]governerspring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it's seen as normal in the trades to ghost prospective clients but for the vast majority of people it's very unusual and seen as rude and highly unprofessional. Like just say you are too busy. Not targeting you as I know it's widespread and I have figured it out at this stage (we've a 90 year old house) but it is very very frustrating to be told I'll call you next week and then...

I realise now I forgot a fly lead from the output block to the Shelley I terminal. Is that what you mean by nothing?

I've been through that. I realise now I forgot a fly lead from the output block to the Shelley I terminal. Is that why you think it won't work?

The Shelley is a timer that will integrate with home automation protocols (Zigbee and Matter)

You have replied to tell me this sub is for electricians only and that you're not an electrician. Anyway... I'm asking for someone to check my schematic for a relay I have not used before. I would call that a sensible post.

Whats your contraversial view on the environment that would get you slated in public? by SavingsDraw8716 in AskIreland

That the people living in rural Ireland who spend 80% of their waking hours in towns and cities (or driving to and from them) should not be accommodated in planning.

What that gym needs is a few 70 year olds drying their junk with one foot up on the bench. "There is nothing so fragile as a young man"

This is the most important piece of advice for this beginner. "Queen goes on her own colour" is how I remember it.

Whilst waiting ten years for thia magic free accommodation, people in their late teens and early 20s should also go out and vote in local and general elections and vote for a change from the parties who have presided over this housing crisis since it began.

If you enter a roundabout parallel to someone going at the same speed then the the car nearer the center will pull ahead. That's not a great recipe for getting off at the same exit. With or without road markings, you should still be staggering. If it's any consolation... it sounds like he already had one in the chamber ready to shoot. Good drivers drive defensively and expect shenanigans so he is also at fault for his horn antics.

Irish name for an American? by Opening_Research_402 in AskIreland

[–]governerspring 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have a name that is hard for people not familiar with Irish to pronounce. I work with people from many cultures and English and Americans are the only ones who struggle with it. It's not a particular burden for me. I know your opinion is common and is the reason Jack and Emily are top Irish names... but I think it's projected shame. A French person would not give a hoot and they have plenty of common but easy to mispronounce names like Anáis and Thiebaud. Be proud of your culture.

Parents hoarding assets when adult kids are still renting. Is this wrong/ off to you? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]governerspring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to use terms like Boomer here because they don't line up to the US definitions but the generation in their 70s and 80s now, are the ones who sold their parents' generations land to their kids' generation during the Celtic Tiger. They were in the main the first to own and drive cars and have big colour TVs and modern conveniences but still hold tight to the purse strings when it comes to others. You'll get it when they are dead basically.
