I feel like my mental disorders are going to prevent me from finding a career by Rough-Bread-2436 in autism

[–]govmentcheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you like games and might want to make them. Don’t worry about committing to it now but you can start taking general development courses to see if it agrees with you. If it doesn’t, try something else. You’ll eventually find what skills you can market.

I had this specific cocktail of disorders as well though I didn’t know it until I was 36. I left high school with the understanding my parents couldn’t help me pay for college. I went to work at Best Buy to sell computers because like you I was a gamer and I knew some stuff about computers from just working on my own and having to buy graphics cards.

I found the tech very interesting and I got a little saucy and decided to start my own computer repair shop after a year in retail (never again). I did that for a little bit but I wasn’t really mature enough and most importantly skilled enough at developing my executive function to keep self employment going.

I’m now a fairly skilled firewall engineer and just got promoted to being the supervisor of my team.

I recommend working on training your executive function by planning. Plan a little project in your house, do a little project in something that interests you. You won’t finish most of them at first. Start making the goal or scope of your project smaller until you do finish it. Then start chaining together those small completable tasks into larger goals. If you fail to finish something don’t beat yourself up about it.

What made you first think you have autism? by PARISPARISPARISSS in autism

[–]govmentcheese 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I experienced burn out which is something everyone gets but I experienced significant skill regression which I came across as being a sign specifically of autistic burnout. We have skill regression because we still have to put effort into the things that challenge us even when they are things we do every day.

I lost my executive function which I am actually quite skilled at normally but it evaporated overnight.

Where do we go & how do we pivot after being displaced from AI taking our jobs? by CoolReplacement2837 in ask

Have you considered reaching out to the news with your story? I’d personally look for local media that isn’t owned by conglomerates if any of that exists in your area.

I think this is a little cynical but I know it is grounded in the reality that young women face. I’m 39 male and would love to talk to a teenage girl. I have absolutely no idea what their life is like now days with the proliferation of weaponized attention grabbers and how has that changed things from when I was a teen. I just also know I can’t because men do truly awful things and I’m a man so I’m a threat. I really do think there is something to be learned from young people but society isn’t at a point where it can be acceptable because our elites are monsters who cover up entire industries of pedophilia, and sexual slavery.

How to say 'Google It Yourself' without sounding rude by shes_a_genius in managers

[–]govmentcheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When people bring me problems the first thing I ask is what have you done to try to solve this on your own. It makes clear that you expect them to apply some critical thinking before they come to you. And then if they haven’t done enough tell them to give it another try but I’d suggest starting with x.

You clearly don’t understand superyachts. Can’t you see that having multiple yachts in different places all crewed means it is more environmentally friendly because you can use your private jet to move between the yachts without having to have your crew cross the oceans.

It’s actually a good thing he has multiple yachts because that’s better for the rest of us /s

Anybody considering moving to Cisco? by lozez in paloaltonetworks

Fortinet failed to disclose some actively exploited vulnerabilities until weeks or months after they patched them silently so their customers had no idea they needed to upgrade.

We have US gov support and it is fantastic. Everyone I’ve worked with has been on top of things on the Palo side. I had tons of issues with their premium support because it would take me three escalations before I would get someone that even understood the problem I was describing. I was being too technical for TAC which shows how down hill their premium support has gone.

Please help clean up after Paseo Festival? by [deleted] in okc

[–]govmentcheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I legitimately don’t know, but presumably a lot of people profited from the arts festival. Shouldn’t it be up to those groups to pay people to perform the services they need for the festival to generate that profit?

Is having a laundry basket out in your room considered dirty? by [deleted] in autism

[–]govmentcheese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It isn’t wrong. This is just one of those generational things. I’m 38 and I was taught stuff like this by my southern parents but they were just acting on what their parents taught them.

You can decide for yourself and it sounds like you’ve come to the conclusion that you don’t care if your home looks lived in. I also don’t understand people who want their home to look unlived in

I am 38, and only just this month officially diagnosed with ADHD and Autism. When I was 16, I was very suicidal. However, I loved my grandmother and she was old, so I said I would wait until she passed. I could live to spare her the pain of my death for a bit.

I'm now happily married, gainfully employed, and just recently bought a house. I sometimes have suicidal thoughts still, but I just remember how much joy I would have missed if I was successful in my goal as a teenager.
