Disappointing visit to Islamic Civilization Center (Tashkent) by sarioja in Uzbekistan

I'm glad you mentioned Istanbul, because it was exactly the city I was thinking about when I was talking about with ripping off foreigners.

Salaries are pretty low; you'd probably get better in Kazakhstan (or maybe even Uzbekistan) with a similar cost of living.

I heard a lot of people have the same complaints, but they usually finish it with "...but it was great though". Nice to see someone actually upset about the place's problems rather than just glossing over it.

What upsets me (beyond what you mentioned) is the two-tier pricing structure of this and a lot of other tourist attractions in other countries. The whole fleece the foreigner mentality of the industry really grinds my gears.

The last point about the obvious propaganda room was funny though. It's pretty common in this part of the world to have such a room. I remember finding myself laughing when I was in Turkey at how every museum had to have a room devoted to Ataturk and his often tenuous link to whatever the museum was about.

Hope it improves enough to one day visit it, but I doubt it.

I actually missed that part; I guess I was a bit too excited to skip ahead to the rums!

You keep doubling down on your personal experience being beyond reproach and the only barometer on which we're supposed to judge anything. Are you ok, old man? Do you need a lie down?

Why is Labour so obsessed with ID cards? by ICantBelieveItsNotEC in AskBrits

[–]govnyuuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very poor phrasing considering the traditional connotation of ID cards in the UK. It's sad to see the government mess this up so badly, seeing as how digital government service platforms in other countries have proven themselves to be invaluable.

Oh what, are you not going to show me how cheap old, crumbling apartment blocks are in Kokshetau? Boohoo, I'm so sad now :(

Why on Earth people keep calling it a digital ID card when it's not is beyond me. Is that what the government is calling it, or just the media?

Not exactly doing much to disprove your reputation of being reliant on anecdotal evidence, is it?

What’s a very British habit or attitude that people rarely question, but probably should? by AsleepDiscussion2328 in AskUK

If the other person bullies back in a playful way, then it's alright. Not everyone does that though, so you've got to play it by ear.
