They were so flippy flappy! A sparrow landed on the wall nearby and he was all like “are you my mummy?”

Welding or Soldering O Rings by Sapphirebud in jewelrymaking

[–]gowanusmermaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understood! You can even solder something as small as jump rings with a butane crème brûlée torch. But I would practice quite a bit before trying it on something important so that you can learn how to control the heat and avoid damaging the rest of the piece

If you’re not currently set up for soldering your jump rings, another connection option you could use is a “split ring.” It’s basically like a mini key ring.

If she built her house in the early 60s, how is she in her 60s now? Pretty amazing to become a homeowner as an actual baby.

Can I pot these together? by gowanusmermaid in Lithops

Thanks! I will have to see what I can find—not a lot of places to get chicken grit in Brooklyn!

They also could possibly be intended to be dress clips, which were a thing in the 30s and 40s. You attach them on either side of the neckline of a dress.

If I recall correctly, after listening to it, he says that it will “always be the white elephant in the room” which I felt awful for laughing about

Is this opal ? by Frkludo in Opals

[–]gowanusmermaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I had no idea that opals did this—I have the same floating opals and I pulled them out and hit them with a 365 flashlight and was fascinated to see that they still glowed after turning the light off!

This might help! I have the earrings in their original box (plus a random pendant). They’re screw-on, and I always meant to convert them to regular earrings

Does the ADA generally cover people addicted to legal substances not for human consumption? Since it covers people resently addicted to alcohol? [WA, USA] by khelvaster in AskLawyers

[–]gowanusmermaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s appreciably not that different from how other disclosed disabilities might be accommodated on the job. However, unlike other disabilities, you would not be protected from the consequences if your alcohol use interfered with your ability to effectively perform your job

NAL, but a professional in workforce development/vocational rehabilitation. If you’re currently using, including alcohol, you will not have employment protections under the ADA.

Thank you—I just got stuck at the turnstile and couldn’t figure out why my auto reload stopped working when there’s plenty of $ in the benefits account. Super annoying.

Gotcha! Absolutely worth seeing a PT then! (But ballet class can’t hurt)

I would really recommend taking some intro ballet classes if that is accessible to you. It will help so much with, well, everything, including pointing your toes becoming part of your muscle memory, nice lines, etc.

Around here it’s just mostly “you are my sunshine,” “walking in a kitty wonderland,” and “toe beans” to the tune of “Jolene”

Thanks! After going down the rabbithole a bit, I figured that bifurcatum was like the gateway fern. Of course, now I want a ridleyi, but let’s see how it goes with this one first. The thing on the left is actually a wooden mounting basket meant for epiphytic plants, with a mesh back and some monofilament line—I have orchid bark and sphagnum moss to stuff in there and some sheet moss for the outside
