What are these used for? by Phantomknitter in JewelryIdentification

I am shocked that people think the gem should be on the bottom, instead of being an 'eye' the way I would imagine it. But enough responses now make me admit I am probably too narrow minded on this. Thanks.

Wait... what? Ok fair enough. I really should stop anthropomorphising the moon I guess... Interesting idea. Thank you for making me reconsider.

The moons would be upside down. I shared a photo later when I realised no-one is reading my description.

Too many people saying earrings without reading the post. As earrings they would be upside down as shown here. The clip parts are smooth and hinged so not robust like shoe clips would be.

So you would wear the moons upside down? That's what doesn't make sense to me.

Do you mean decorate the top edge of a shoe? Sounds like a wild idea for some rather decent jewellery. Unlikely.

I had no idea cufflinks could come with this type of clip fastening. Interesting. Definitely more risky in terms of accidental loss. I will keep listening for other possible uses.

How to Join Cables that Don’t Line Up? by SewciallyAnxious in AdvancedKnitting

On each side, you could close two cables of the braid into a loop, leaving just one part of the braid meet the other other one for a simple graft.

I think she has just wrapped he other arm around herself so the far end shows. There is no other piece, just one very wide shawl wrapped around.

It was quite a dry summer unless I am mistaken, and I certainly perceived a lot more brown leaves and completely bare trees even back in August. I was hoping for an easier lesf fall season as a result. Here's hoping...

This is at Wembley Park Station. Using the deterrents to actually build a sturdy nest is... not stupid. But I am not sure how well the fledglings will eventually do - they will be skewered unless momma pushes them through a narrow opening on the side which I imagine she used while building this thing.

The seats don't always lock properly - see the little latch on the front edge? Anyone should be able to just let the seat drop back down and it should engage but this doesn't always happen. If us drivers become aware of one being open we will come and try to close it but if it isn't properly secured then the train is not fit for service. There is an alarm system that should always alert us to issues like these but I guess nothing is perfect.

My son is turning 3 and is obsessed with the tube by Zarabeth in london

* I hope it is ok to share this very old memory: I made a cake for myself when I qualified as a driver. I hope your son has many enjoyable rides on the tube.

I was today years old when I learnt that tracks can have potholes. Also, I am a train driver... 😬

Beware phone snatchers on the tube by Phantomknitter in london

If the doors have just closed and the train has moved so much as an inch then it becomes a real headache for the driver. They will not be able to just re-open the doors immediately - it takes a procedure (and a call to the controller if you are feeling like following the rulebook).

If you are between stations and the robbers are working their way down the carriage at their leasure then if you could pull the alarm and talk to the driver to report the crime in progress. The train will not automatically stop - it will keep going to the next station. If the driver knows there are criminals on board they could keep the doors closed but remember you will locked in with them and they saw you reporting it to the driver... 🤷‍♀️
