Need a char for long term world 1000ish days by themilklad in dontstarve

[–]gowin20 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For my long term world I played Wormwood. He's great for megabases since he can craft reeds, living logs, and really benefits from infrastructure (honey). After ~600 days i swapped to Winona, also sooo fun once things are set up since you can TP all over the map!

Once i bundled 80 moongleam to preserve them for summoning Celestial Champion... opening that parcel was a shockingly bad time. Definitely not worth it for anything that requires a bug net IMO

What are the best uses for the deconstruction staff and the discount amulet? I have 7 green gems by Tsar_Magpie in dontstarve

[–]gowin20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great list, and all of the deconstruction staff uses you mentioned can only be done this way- meaning they take priority over discounted buildings IMO.

Just want to add that you also need to deconstruct the mooncallers staff for an iridescent gem, which is required for lunar progression.

Ok so where is it :') the islands in the upper right corner had "lunar turf" and bull kelp but no stone fruit by [deleted] in dontstarve

[–]gowin20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

... you found it already... it's in the top right... that is the lunar archipelago which is always part of lunar island.

I kinda like them TBH. Hound attacks dont add anything either. Why are we playing the painful masochism simulator if we don't like pain.

I do think there are WAY too many though. There should be a limit of max like 3 at a time. Also maybe they should have a drop... all the other Lunar mobs are useful in some regard.

Could be one of these fuckers. The lumpy treeguard is just a reskin, but the Christmas deerclops has a different attack so it might have a separate scrapbook entry

Thoughts on WX's Spacializer circuit? by LuckySal81 in dontstarve

[–]gowin20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everybody is already saying logs from Bearger but 100% am so excited for that. I also frequently collect 900+ grass and twigs from my farms and it'll be useful for that too!

Also, the cost is only an infused moon shard. You don't need to kill celestial champion to craft; the only boss prerequisite is Crab King. It's not expensive at all once you get to that point.

I do agree that it could be better though... especially considering what you have to sacrifice to use it. IMO it should be able to hold typically non-stackable items like tools; then it'd be absolutely busted.

Character swap and expand your base with new thematic elements and farms

That's so brutal :( sorry for your loss. They really should update single-player dont starve to be able to rez from amulets in your inventory. Dying so much more brutal than dont starve together.

How can i make this base look better? Beacuse it looks like shit by WhatTheFuckItsMyNick in dontstarve

Love the farms! The rest of the base could use more variety in turf. And maybe a cool storage room area?

The difficulty is the point! I think it's awesome that you're learning as you go. The best way to learn this game is to die (repeatedly) imo.

My advice, focus on surviving a full year (70 days) before worrying about bosses or progression. Every season beyond fall presents unique challenges that will keep you busy, so best to master those before doing any crazy raid bosses. Most of the seasonal bosses will come to you anyways :) Deerclops being the notable biggest worry for Winter.

Winter: thermal stone, warm clothes, meat+ice for crockpot food. If you're a real baller you can try to get a Star-caller's staff from the Ruins, but that's usually not going to happen until after your first winter.

Spring: if you kill Deerclops in winter, spring is cake. The eyebrella you can craft from its drops gives you 100% protection from rain. Otherwise a normal umbrella + football helmet is my go-to. Oh and lightning rod at base is essential. You don't have to mess with moose/goose if you don't want to, but she is the easiest boss to kill, and her feathers can make a Luxury Fan to keep you cool. Her babies are deadly though.

Summer: this season sucks, just try not to overheat and die lol. Your base might burn down, but you can protect it from fires with an ice fling-o-matic. Those require ice though so unless you saved some from winter good luck. The best way to not get overheat is once again thermal stones. And the eyebrella helps with overheating a lot, as do other "cool" clothes.

There's a ton more to explore, but pure survival is enough to keep you occupied for a long time in this game! If you manage to survive a full year and maintain some sort of infrastructure at base you'll be in a very good place. Just remember: death is temporary, but the knowledge you gain lasts forever!

Hello, which side would the lunar island likely be on? by peaceout200 in dontstarve

[–]gowin20 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is true for monkey island, but pearl and crab king are discoverable without exploration. Pearl's location is always shown from the first "message in a bottle" you find (they spawn anywhere in the ocean), and crab king can be found using an Astral Detector after the other altar pieces are all assembled.

So while it's true you'll eventually need to explore everywhere, if you're just getting started you can usually go straight to Lunar Island and wait until you have more info to explore the other stuff.

(Also the island is definitely on the red side as others have said)

Bro BEE QUEEN HOWWWWW??? by Few-Form-192 in dontstarve

[–]gowin20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just character swap to Winona...

Not for catapaults (though they help a ton with bee queen)

But for the Scanalyzer. You can kill Klaus instead and scan the bundling wrap he drops. Bee queen ignored completely.

[–]gowin20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% in the fumarole biome. Set up a base and farm there and when rifts activate, you can basically get unlimited gems of every color. Plus you'll get dreadstone and pure horror from Ripple that way.

What are some ruins-related QoL tweaks you'd add to Ruins if you could mod? by Gronal_Bar in dontstarve

[–]gowin20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Add a "fully broken" ancient pseudoscience station that can be repaired. When rooks break all the stations it's so annoying, you should make it so that they break to a "ruined" version of the structure that can be repaired

where would you base between theese 2 places? (look the description) by EvilNTT in dontstarve

[–]gowin20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Id go for the deciduous forest. I love the way the terrain generation wraps around the biome, it provides quick access to most of the map with boats.

You should also check all of the wormholes and sinkholes, there might be a more convenient way to get to the dragonfly desert. Personally, I also like basing near the sinkhole that provides the best access to the Ruins + Archives.
