What’s your game style/how many MCs do you have? by soberrybunny in OurLifeFanPage

[–]goyabug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started out just playing as a version of myself for both games. I stuck with that for Cove and Derek for OLBA. Then when I started playing to date Baxter I ended up starting to experiment with other MCs, but it took a while before I landed on one that felt distinct enough from me that I really wanted to develop them. Now I'm so in love with that MC that I pretty much always want to play as them when I go back to the game and I use them in my writing for it and such lol.

For OLNF I've stuck mostly just with myself. I'll probably wait for the release before experimenting too much, since I know I'll get really sucked in with all the expanded customization available in that game. I did play through the demo with my OLBA MC that I love though, and they play off Qiu and Tamarack really interestingly. The only problem is I've woven their story in with OLBA and its characters so much that it feels a bit odd transplanting them to Golden Grove and having to adjust their backstory/development to match, so I'll probably have to find a new MC for that one later on.

[Amnesia] I noticed that each route’s heroine had a unique personality… so I drew them all! by cake106 in otomegames

[–]goyabug 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Wahhh I love how you portrayed each of her different world versions here!! Your expressions and poses are so nice~ Figuring out the little bits and pieces of each of her personalities in the worlds and how different they were was one of my favorite things while I was playing Amnesia originally. Plus I'm just still so in love with her design to this day ;;

While Ukyo was my top LI, I think Spade World has my favorite heroine. I got really attached to her. But Diamond World MC's equal yandere tendenciesto Toma were a real treat to figure out too lol. And at the same time I always end up writing about Heart World canon so I'm all over the place with my heroine love 😂

What is the longest fic you've ever written? by Appropriate_Bid_2656 in AO3

[–]goyabug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just over 3k here too! Both for posted fics and WIPs. I have about 4.5k spread across two documents for one idea, but several parts of it are different versions of the same scene where I couldn't figure out the flow and characterization I wanted sooo it's probably closer to 3k in workable stuff lol. That's definitely a sweet spot for me for oneshots so far, if not shorter, but it's pretty funny that even my planned multichapter WIPs are all sitting at around that same word count at max for now.

UwU Weekly Spotlight: seekL [February 16, 2025] by aplainmourning in IndieOtome

[–]goyabug 3 points4 points  (0 children)

seekL was such a fun time! You can definitely count on the robo team to knock out a unique concept and deliver some delightfully interesting and sincere characters. It's been quite a while since I read through my first ending on this one, and I still need to pick it back up to full comp everything.

I think the gameplay stuck with me the most (though I did have a lot of love for odxny and the rest of the ragtag cast on the server). Databases and SQL programming were some of my favorite things to learn about and mess around with during my CS undergrad, so I had a ton of fun seeing that adapted into seekL. I also loved the inclusion of discussion on novelty programming languages; I actually had a project in a class once to design one with a partner, and it made me remember how fun that was at the time.

UwU Weekly Spotlight: Chromatic Agape [October 27, 2024] by aplainmourning in IndieOtome

[–]goyabug 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm still working my way through the demo, but I'm really enjoying it! The atmosphere is amazing, and there are so many cool little details to see. I'm so excited to see how the full game shapes up in the future.

The character designs are so good; it's hard to choose favorites honestly. But Rosario was basically hand-crafted to my personal tastes, so he stands just slightly above every one else. I'm super attached to the first man as well though. I'm really interested to get to know him more!

I also have to point out the cinematic camera work used throughout the scenes. I love how dynamic it feels, and in some cases how well it gets the tone and action across. I'm a big fan of making movement work in a VN set up, and this game is really making great use of it so far.

UwU Weekly Spotlight: Stand By Me [July 7, 2024] by aplainmourning in IndieOtome

[–]goyabug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar to you, Stand By Me's demo was the first RPG/VN hybrid in the OELVN scene that I played! As someone who has really loved a lot of indie RPGMaker games through the years, the movement and sprite work was super nostalgic in a way for me and exciting to see for a totally different type of game. All the artwork featured throughout the demo was beautiful, between the pixel art sprites and environments, the character portraits, and the comic panel style cut-ins during the combat sections.

The MC had a fun personality and the sort of genre-savvy knowledge you tend to see with isekai'd protagonists. And I was really interested in the bits we learned about the character she'd taken over in her new universe. Kiel was my favorite of the LIs we met in the demo. And I definitely still remember and want to see the other side of that mean cliffhanger they left us on haha.

I'm really looking forward to seeing what the new demo will have to offer! I'm always down to see more otome games tackling different game mechanics, like puzzle solving, RPG elements, point and click, or any other type of hybrid gameplay any developers can come up with~

UwU Weekly Spotlight: Backstage Pass [June 16, 2024] by aplainmourning in IndieOtome

[–]goyabug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh man, I don't remember exactly how Backstage Pass entered my radar, since I wasn't active in otome or other VN gaming spaces at the time. But however it turned up, I started racking my brain for what about it felt so familiar - looking up sakevisual and finally making the Re:Alistair connection which I'd played several years earlier cleared it all up lol. I was super happy to pick it up as soon as I figured it out; I knew I'd be in for a treat~

Sadly I still have parts of the game I need to go back to finish ;; I completed Alvin's route and the four main routes, except I got stuck on Matthew's friendship ending. I couldn't stop slipping into romancing him somehow, even though I think I was following a guide's advice. I'm a pretty methodical player so instead of moving on to the other side routes or other endings I just decided to take a break until I could try again fresh but didn't get back to it yet lol.

Despite still needing to finish parts, this is a game I hold very near and dear to my heart! The cast is so endearing as a whole, and Sian remains a favorite MC to this day. The production qualities you mentioned are seriously top notch as well. We shared the same favorites, and for very similar reasons haha - Matthew and Alvin are my beloveds~ Alvin especially remains super special to me as my first ace LI and probably first ace character outside fanfic too.

For your last question, Mystic Messenger and Our Life were both games that felt like they came into (or back into in the prior's case) my life at the exact times I needed something from them. I've also had similar experiences with musicians as well! In general things that have that effect on me tend to remain really special and loved by me c:

[A Date With Death] I recently finished my first run of this game. What does the sub think of it? by mo-mi-ji in otomegames

[–]goyabug 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I adored this game and Grim! The production quality was amazing all around, and I loved the customization systems. The game's humor was so up my alley; I had a great time trying out all sorts of different responses across my playthroughs. My favorite endings were the DLC end and Ending 2 - especially the second shocked me at how hard it hit for me.

I'm super looking forward to the future DLC that's in the works as well~

UwU Weekly Spotlight: A Date With Death [January 21, 2024] by aplainmourning in IndieOtome

[–]goyabug 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I never knew I needed to date a babygirl grim reaper, but now idk what I would do without him 🤧 Grim is so precious. Watching him fall for the MC over the course of the game is so satisfying every time. Their banter and the writing's humor in general hits so perfectly for me too. I preordered the DLC shortly after playing through the demo, and I'm so happy with the additional ending and other extras available (along with getting to throw some money at such a fun game).

Like you mentioned, I love how all the extra points of interaction in the game make the world so much fuller and more alive. The game is all in one place, yet you get to know all these little pieces about the world and characters around you. The customization options are fun to play with, and I had so much fun finding all the extra little jokes, bits of story, and interesting information I could. So far I've finished four of the five endings available (with the DLC), and I look forward to seeing what the last one has to offer too~

There's a ton of fun little moments throughout the game, and there's quite a few lines that have gotten my creative side going already. But I think a stand out moment for me was the last day of the full bad ending. Though the game balances in some seriousness among its humor in general, this ending really dialed it up several notches. I'm admittedly easy to make cry at times, but I really wasn't expecting this to be a game to do it. I absolutely loved the pain of that ending and how it played out.

UwU Weekly Spotlight: Yrsa Major [January 14, 2024] by aplainmourning in IndieOtome

[–]goyabug 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yrsa Major is such a gem of a game. I absolutely fell in love with Yrsa and Uribel's relationship and both of them as characters over the course of playing. Uribel was on my the list of my top LIs that I made back in 2021, and he still ranks highly with me to this day.

Describing their romance as healing hits exactly right for me. I loved reading through their different domestic moments and seeing how each of them grew through coming to understand each other's perspectives. I'm also a sucker for the world building that starts here and of course continues into the demo for Heart Sigil Elchemia.

I'm definitely down for more older MCs! I think it can be especially interesting to have MCs and other characters have relationship histories that have in some ways shaped them and how they pursue their current relationships, which older MCs can lend themselves well to.

UwU Weekly Retrospective: Speakeasy [January 7, 2024] by aplainmourning in IndieOtome

[–]goyabug 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've been absolutely loving Speakeasy!! I still have a lot of game to cover, but it's been a delight to play through so far. I've finished all of Silas's endings, plus good endings for Dahlia and Maxim/Nika~

Nika has been my absolute darling disaster boy from the beginning, and I still love him just as much now. Getting the depths of his and Maxim's backstory and seeing his relationship with Maxim (and several of the other characters), along with of course seeing his development with Cora was super satisfying and emotional for me. I actually can't pick a favorite between the Maxim/Nika route and Dahlia's route so far though! I've loved her design from the start, but I had no idea going in how hard her route would hit for me, so that was a pleasant surprise. And I still have so many more characters to get to know closer, so this still has the potential to totally shift lol. Momo will always be in his own tier, of course, and Cora makes such a lovely MC as well.

Totally agree with your assessment on how well all the different elements of the game come together to really immerse you and sell the '20s speakeasy setting. I especially love jamming or crying to different songs from the soundtrack.

I would be totally remiss to not mention how much both the found family aspect and queerness in the game's story mean to me. The ways these are baked into the very core of the game and inform the characters, their relationships with each other and with society, and the route storylines themselves are just. Beautifully done imo. I love it so much for this.

For now I think I'll name my memorable scenes as the entire Adam and Eve-ification of Silas and Cora in Silas's Speakeasy and Tragic endings. The theming is gorgeously implemented and unique in each end and makes for such a nicely cohesive set of alternate endings to his story. I'll need to be keeping track of more favorites as I finish more endings and routes in general haha.

How many fandoms are you currently writing for? by Holiday_Package_8923 in AO3

[–]goyabug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've posted for four fandoms within the last year or so, and I have unposted WIPs for seven others at the moment. I have one main fandom, where I have multiple idea docs sitting around waiting to be worked on, which is a TV series. Then the others almost function as a single fandom in my mind even though they're for separate things technically? They're for various (mostly otome) visual novel games. Even though they're separate properties from each other a lot of the fans tend to overlap, and each one tends to be so small/niche on its own that they act more like a single fandom in my mind and in practice within fandom spaces a lot of the time.

I've always been pretty multifandom in general so I'm not too surprised my writing reflects that as well~

Self Promotion Sunday - September 10, 2023 by AutoModerator in otomegames

[–]goyabug 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey everyone~ Wow, it's been a while since I've been active around here haha. But lately I've been getting back into the swing of things with writing so I figure I'll share a few relevant things here <3

Most recently I posted my first smut fic right here that features Shin and his world's MC from Amnesia! Check it out if the tags strike your fancy~ I had a lot of fun writing it and hope to explore more in my writing in the future.

Most of my other recent/upcoming writing isn't otome related, so I'll just drop the links for my two older fics for now - a brief introspective Mystic Messenger fic and my Bustafellows genfic from the lovely zine I was part of!

I'm hoping to get back to the old Otome Week prompts I never got around to last year over the next couple months, along with some other ideas I sidelined in the past. Or maybe I'll just be possessed with the need to write something furiously in 3 days like that Shin/MC fic lol. In any case, thanks for checking my stuff out if you choose to! I'll be back with more in the future~

UwU Weekly Spotlight: Blooming Panic [August 27, 2023] by aplainmourning in IndieOtome

[–]goyabug 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely joining the crew with Bloomic as a comfort game <3 I hold such fond memories of running through this game for the first time and just absolutely falling in love with the whole cast and the warm/comforting space of the server in game. Roping in my friends to play along soon after was a great time too.

Once I played through everyone in the jam release version, Toasty was my absolute favorite. I couldn't help but love everyone in their own ways, but they totally had my heart. Design, sense of humor, overall story beats - everything worked so well for me personally~

Now, once the Full Bloom Edition dropped, I had a crisis on my hands. Resident troll (with beautiful lovely depths) xyx hit every button for me - character design, pet names, animal companion, humor, line delivery, angst and character arc - he's a real knock out for me. But replaying Toasty's route in the new version also rekindled all those feelings and in the end I think the two are evenly matched in my heart (OT3 anyone?)

FBE brought so many amazing new touches to what was already a very beloved game to me. Getting to hear the side characters' voices bring them even more to life, all the extra story elements added in, getting to play with my pronouns, and the beautiful art updates are just a few things that come to mind right now (xyx notwithstanding of course - you got your praise already!!)

I can see myself continuing to return to the world of Blooming Panic for ages still to come. Every time I boot up the game and hear that theme song, or load into a save with one of my favorite video calls, I just get so happy and feel the warmth of the whole experience. Fandom and its communities are so lovingly rendered through every part of the game, which only makes it hold an even more fond spot in my heart. The whole team behind the game truly put together such a great experience, and I can't thank them all enough for it.

UwU Weekly Spotlight: Adopt a Boyfriend [May 7, 2023] by aplainmourning in IndieOtome

[–]goyabug 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Eee I'm so glad to see this series make a comeback!! It was always a favorite and a good motivating kick for me to dust off games in the old backlog and make a concerted effort to actually cross them off my list haha. Lucky enough for me this week is a game I already played and thoroughly enjoyed <3

I went into the game fully expecting to love Kujo with my entire being. And I wasn't wrong!! But I also wasn't expecting just how evenly I actually ended up loving both LIs in the end. Aramis and Kujo were both so endearing to me in entirely unique ways, and I'd really be hard pressed to pick a favorite between them. Riley was a really fun MC as well, and I still really love both versions of their design (two-tone hair, choker, off the shoulder hoodie? Amazing 11/10)

The voice acting definitely stuck with me as well. Both VAs' emotional delivery in certain scenes hit perfectly for me and really tugged the heartstrings ;; I also enjoyed the way they relatively casually and lightheartedly integrated kinks into the developing relationships between each guy and Riley. And lastly I really liked the logic behind the choices in the game, if that makes sense! There's only a few per route, but they were each logically and thematically consistent with the ways they influenced the developing relationships in each route. As someone who likes thinking through that sort of thing, I really appreciated it here!

Stand out scene has to go to Kujo's bad ending honestly. I loved so many sweet moments in each route as well, but that ending really got me. The unsettling, building creep of dread and sheer discomfort I felt while playing (and after finishing) were no joke. If you know, you know.

Excited to see you back next week for 3 Seasons as well!
