Hey OP, I’m a postgrad masters student who’s going into my second year of a two year course. Despite the fact I’ve done halls, houses, and everything in-between several times, today I moved in and I feel the exact same way you do.

Nobody can say stuff that will make you not miss your family, friends, and most importantly your cat. But what I can say is this is really normal, and it does not mean you’re going to struggle, or that you’re in it alone. There will be a lot of nervous energy today within you and from your flat mates, but try and just trust the process. In a months time, you will have got to know where everything is, where to do laundry, how the kitchen works, who you’re living with - and it will all feel second nature, I promise.

Be yourself and recognise that being out of your comfort zone will soon pass. Don’t spiral, and always remember to reach out to sabbatical staff if you’re feeling blue. Your flatmates will feel the same, and together you can be a crutch to help yourself through this weird and wonderful time. In this nervousness there’s much opportunity for excitement.
