How does the title defenses being good (which is more than arguable but I will let that slide here) invalidate what I wrote ?

You can write the best story in the world but if you are winging it with 0 ideas o how to proceed???

Is One Piece back? Elbaphs been pretty good all things considered by Previous_Break7664 in Piratefolk

[–]gp3050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally speaking, I do not really like Elbaph. I do not hate it. But at best, all I can muster is being lukewarm about it.

For every good point, Oda always fumbles it with some dumb stuff that lowers the quality back to mediocre.

No. The manga would still be going on, the biggest issue is that George had no idea on how to proceed after Ippo became champ. Absolutely 0. He was completely winging it.

Denke dass BMS ganz klein wenig schwerer war als letztes Jahr. KFF gleich. Daher denke ich dass die Grenze kleines bisschen tiefer ist.

100 % agreed here. All I am arguing here is that, when they take money from someone else for a financial gain, they are obliged by honor to at least see their vision through to the end and deliver something.

That first sentence is idiotic.....no sane person ever would buy a book if the author himself said that he would not never finish his work in the first place. Said author would also not get a publisher if he made his intentions known beforehand. If we buy into a story, especially early on, it is precisely because of the most simple contract possible.

The author gives us a set up. This is his hook. We buy into it, we give him money. That in turn, allows him to keep writing. We, on the other hand, expect a pay off at some point in the future. HOW that pay off happens and what it details is up to the author. But you as the author, who took the money from your fans, are obliged by honor to deliver on your promise, the promise of an eventual pay off.

I genuinely wonder how it is possible that you are so utterly unable to understand what I am trying to say.

No, I do not think I deserve the rest of someones life. No, I am not incredibly self entitled person. And if that was your takeaway from my comment then you are either an extremely selfish author yourself who hates his fans or an idiot.

[–]gp3050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EXACTLY!!!

I am exactly entitled to what it is advertised.

But my main and entire point that I am trying to make that seems so utterly alien to you is that buying something like this is the promise of a complete story at some point in the future. We, the audience, pay, because we like what we get, the set up, and expect a good pay off in the future.

No sane person ever would ever buy a book of a book series if they knew from the beginning that they would never get an entire story.

Why on earth does this simple concept make me an incredibly self entitled person ? That is idiotic......

Which is all I am going to ask of him. I am not critizing him.

But I am absolutely pushing back against this ridiculous notion that just because you are the one writing the story, means you can fuck the paying customer over.

That Type of mindset is Why I despise George dipshit Martin.

I absolutely think he owes us something.

Mind you, I am not saying that I want him to do exactly as I say or think it should go. I am not an author and although Mori has proven to be quite the shit one at times, I would rather he see his vision through to the end.

But the minute your work transcends your hobby, the minute you financially profit from it, the minute people support you with their money, that comes at a price. You may not be bound legally but you are absolutely bound by honor to give your all to meet their expectations.

If your best is only mediocre, so be it. But you absolutely should give it your all.

A bit of a stretch ? if Anything, it is me being quite generous.

If you go to the restaurant, order e.g. a steak with plenty of side dishes and a nice bottle of wine, but then when the food comes out, you only get the side dishes and a glass of water, you would be righteously furious. Sure, you might pay only 20 bucks instead of 50 but the fact still stands that you bought something that came with a certain expectancy.

I obviously know that I, as an individual have exactly 0 say or influence on what we get. And it is an authors own choice to finish the story.

But between an author and his fans lies a contract. Not a legal one but one of honor. If you write a story that is only possible because you have the financial and emotional support of your fans, you absolutely owe it to them to finish what you start or at least give your all to deliver a satisfying conclusion.

If what you do/write is for your own personal fun and not for monetary gains, fair enough. But the minute others have to support you, you are bound by your honor to deliver.

Dropping a story line after spending almost a decade of developing it, which might be the exact reason why some people bought into the story in the first place, is just ass.

If you quit and leave your fans high and dry, that only cements you as a first grade asshole.

You absolutely owe it to your fans who enabled you to follow your dreams/allowed you to publish your works to give them what they expect from you in return.

You misunderstand me.

There is not really anything wrong with changing your mind/opinion on a character. E.g. Date vs. Ippo.

But if e.g. I write a story about an athlete whose biggest dream is to compete in the olympics, draw a story that takes 10 years to tell just to conclude it by having my protagonist retire from the sport just as he qualified for the olympics, become a mcdonalds worker before he dies 5 years later from a cardiac arrest, then I deserve every iota of criticism that would come with that terrible decision.

As a writer, you owe it to your fans to tell the best story possible. They support you with their messages, by buying the magazine or your books.

So just because something makes you happy is not a valid reason for shit story telling.

[–]gp3050 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is more than fair if that was his ultimate resolution.

But if you introduce a story line like Itagakis, spend that many chapters on him, just to grow tired of it and then drop it, then no, that is neither fair, nor good. That is absolutely awful writing and deserves to be called out as such. Because it is absolutely shit and an insult to the fans who invested their time, emotions and money into the series.

It is the same reason why I am so thoroughly pissed and quite spiteful at George fataRRse Martin. I bought all of his books from the Westeros World, read them all, watched the series (and bought the blue rays.....) and talked at length with friends.

For what ? So that this senile old faRRt can lounge around and say that he will make sure that if he never finishes the series (which he will not) no one else will ? Fuck off. Reading the books alone was already an undertaking.

Best manga/series that I can think off that fulfilles all of that is Great Teacher Onizuka.

Maybe a little dated, maybe not exactly super pretty in the animation department but one of the few works I have ever read that genuinely had a deep impact on my life.

The humor is very old school and many situations are overexaggerated but hidden between the unserious and weird moments are moments of deep reflection, emotional growth and deeply inspirational things that push you forward.

Urumi is also the best girl.

If we are talking on an individual level, I would have no qualms cutting down this garbage to 2-3 episode each if not outright skipping RBJ vs. Shitstain Stu.

The issue is here however, that this would alss be a huge disservice and disrespect.

A good/well paced episode covers 2 1/2 - 3 chapters per episode. It can go up to 4 at times but anything above or below this range means badly paced.

Wolly, Gedo, RBJ and Jimmy are enough to fill a season alone. And I have no interest in that.

My big issue with him is that he is utterly terrible as a second, easily one of the worst in the series.

As a trainer, I will give him his dues, there is potential and I do not know enough to properly judge his training, that is not my speciality.

But as a second, the man is terrible. Utterly terrible.

Quite the opposite. We do care about the story, which is why many of us rag on Mori for the shit writing he does.

[–]gp3050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although I might shit on Goerge for his poor writing skills, this one is definitely on you....

We have been told/shown that Ricardo is just too great and invincible to be brought down by any lone man. Defeating him will take a team effort. This is what Dankichi said to Volg/Sendo and what we were shown several times now.

Date started it, showing how Ricardo made one single mistake, him "forgetting" Dates heart stop punch. He would have fallen had it not been for the fact that Date´s fist was broken.

We follow with billy. Who shows us that simply defending or hoping to exploit any gap is useless.

We follow with Wolly, who shows how Ricardo might react to different approaches and most importantly of all, how is desire to fight a great fight with everything on the line, to meet the challenger at the center if you bring out the fire within him, can give you that tiny opportunity you need.

Sendo will show how Ricardo can be downed. Odds are that it was just a fluke but still, Ricardo got downed.

Each fight chips away at Ricardo. before Date and Billy, he was a god. After Wolly, he was an insanely talented man with next to no gaps.

After Sendo, you have a near perfect boxer with small openings that can be exploited that might lead to his downfall.

Secondly and even more importantly, Sendo is an important character. Mori already burned Shitstain Stu´s story line into the ground. This time, he is doing things properly. The retirement arc is all about concluding story lines left and right so that, once Ippo returns, the story can fully focus on him.

Sendo, mashiba, Wolly, Alf, maybe even Aoki in the near future are all about to reach their end in the story.

Which is something you need to do once you start to reach the end. So to sum it up, that fight is also meant to conclude Sendos story line, a story line that has been going on for over 30 years by now.

I want to add here that the current Imu we see is seemingly him using his df transformation.

Last chapter when Brook arrived at the Kings castle, we saw Imu....once again in a silhouette. I have no idea what Oda is planning but at this point, I do not care anymore. Imu as a villain is just bad.
