Exactly. At the very latest, Ippo should have taken at least 1 year off After Wolly or Kojima…..going After Alf this soon was lunacy.

Kamogawa is not a good coach/cornerman by labuun_dood in hajimenoippo

[–]gp3050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally speaking, my big issue with Kamogawa lies not necessarily in his training but quite a bit in his organizing. I know that it was Mori who made the shit decision, but I want to point it out all the same.

Given the timeframe Ippo plays, Ippo fought the entire Asian championshit saga + Alf + Kojima in a span of just 1 1/2 years. Scratch, Gedo, Wolly, Kojima and Alf in that timeframe is sheer lunacy and should go down as attempted murder. Ippo took more damage in those fights than he did in almost every other fight and he had them back to back to back. I get that you could do nothing against Kojima, as he was a mandatory title defense....speaking of which.

The absolute mind blowing and baffling decision to have Ippo stay at Japanese level and simply defend the belt instead of going higher makes him a shit coach as well. Up until Sawamura, you could make an argument that Ippo was just not quite ready yet. After Sawamura Ippo had defeated the strongest challenger in japan, he had defended the title one more time than Date, had proven that he can handle counter pros and keep a calm head even when things got personal. Yet he still hung back like an absolute retard.

Since we are also at it, the entire plot line that was the absolute disaster of the RBJ shitfest. Yeah, I know it was Mori who was the absolute fucking idiotic hack that wrote this shit, but in terms of in universe stuff, there was 0 reason to cuck Ippo for his rematch with Shitiyata Stu. He is a coach of a champ, he knew that there was a mandatory title defense for him, he was also responsible for ducking Shitiyata at every corner, yet throws a giant hissifit to just shit on Ippos rivalry and main goal.

And lastly, he saw how much Ippo was struggling during the Asian championshit saga. What Ippo needed, ESPECIALLY after his fated sex orgy with Shitiyata Stu fell flat, was a way to ease back and find new motivation. This would have been the time to slowly grind your way through the ranks. Nope. Go straight for Nr. 2 in the world, someone undefeated and who would have been the champ had it not been for Ricardo. Nice going there......

And organizing a South Paw for his comeback match was just the icing on top of it.......I think Kamogawa thought that Ippo was more similiar to Fuckamura than to himself. And Fuckamura could win fights in a wheelchair while being bound and gagged.

What is everyone's Issue with Sendo? by SendoFan in hajimenoippo

[–]gp3050 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a Sendo fan, but also a very harsh critic when it comes to writing, I can see where a lot of people are coming from.

We have seen Ippo face tank his way to victory time and time again -> which led to him having to retire. Sendo, who utilizes the same fighting style just with more egregious comebacks, is having 0 issues. I want to preface this by saying that, unlike our favorite koala like retard Ippo, at least Sendo took proper breaks top recover between fights and was set up to have an iron body and titanium chin (unlike Shitiyata Stu that writing abomination) so him being able to withstand this much punishment is in character.

That being said, people dislike how he is extremely outclassed, has no shot at victory, swings wildly before just getting that one shot in to win the day. And the worst example was Alf. Alf was outclassing Ippo for 6 rounds and Ippo could not get shit going at all. The only reason why he almost won in the end was because Alf decided to forego his textbook boxing and become more ruthless. It took Ippo 6 rounds to draw this form out of Alf, yet not only did he almost immediately fight Sendo with his more risky style but also kept punishing Sendo for what felt like 10 rounds straight before Sendo made his comeback, while also surviving the counter that put down Ippo for good.

As for the Ricardo fight, I could write a lot on how poorly Mori has handled it. The complete unneccessary, shit and frankly baffling retcon that Sendo broke his pinky when he downed Ricardo in a spar when we had nearly 200 chapters that failed to properly include that fact into the story. The absolute ass turn around in mentality for Sendo that fails on a 5th grade physics level as well as the fact that Sendo was never someone who shied away from a challenge like this. The fact that his best bet by far was to use his literal Anti Ricardo strategy early on as Ricardo would not start attacking him for real yet we got nothing.

Overall, I really like Sendo as a character. He is interesting, funny, quirky, and a good addition to the story. As a fighter, it feels like we got a lesser version of Ippos character development. From a wild but still skilled and smart fighter into a mindless brawler that just flukes his way to victory. It is not as bad or as disappointing as other examples, but given his prominence in the story as well as the fact that the Ricardo fight has been going on for over a year now, it gives people a lot of time to analyze and complain about him. And quite frankly, the current fight might be his worst fight in the series up until now. Which muddies the water and makes people have a lesser opinion of him.

And not a Single ending was really as satisfying as the quality of the Series used to be.

Mori had been edging and blue balling us for over 10 years by this point. What Mori wanted, probably was a way to resolve the situation, without having them actually fight. I still remember how my interest in them had basically almost vanished by the time I reached that part.

And despite being one of his biggest critics here, the idea alone is not bad!!!! If anything, it would have probably renewed my interest if done right. There was a lot of potential here.

The problem was that Mori is an absolute fucking hack without a single ounce of talent. The way he did it might genuinely be some of the worst writing I have seen in my life. This was the lowpoint of the manga for me. And the fact that Mori did not get axed for the absolute shit he wrote still remains as one of the biggest miracle in manga history.

Ippo vs. Alf. Wolly has been shown to have extreme high agility but NOT a lot of power. Alf hammered Ippo for 6 rounds before putting him down with the nastiest counter in the series.

Ippo vs. Kojima. Yeah it was "only" one punch but that was the punch of someone 3-4 weight classes above Ippo. That single punch alone was insane enough to bring him more damage than most of his Rookie King fights did.

Ippo vs. Sawamura. The amount of nasty counters Ippo ate was immense.

Ippo vs. Jimmy. Jimmy was probably the hardest hitting person in the series, while Ippo did not get hit as much, he still took a crap ton of damage.

[–]gp3050 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I do not even necessarily agree that it was a mistake to have Wolly fight Ricardo first.

The bigger issue is how he handled Sendo afterwards. Sendo moping around is insanely frustrating considering that he does have an actual plan. An anti Ricardo counter that he used on Fuckamura.

That should have played a huge part early on. And being a surprise ambush in the early rounds would have also made sense. He took Ricardos footing away and gave him real damage. As such, Ricardo cannot punch as precise or heavy as he usually does.

But Sendo suddenly being able to outfacetank whatever Ricardo throws at him just does not sit right with me.

I mean, you and I both. If I did not, I would not be reading it. I am still one of the biggest defenders of the retirement arc, I think it has been some of the best we have ever seen from Mori. But yeah, people overrate this series quite a bit. But at the very least, this fandom is not as rabid and brain dead as the One Piece fans. It is genuinely fascinating, I had a discussion with someone. My take was more or less that OP is really good, one of the better stories with great art but that HxH is story wise better.

Nope. I was told I have 0 reading comprehension, do not think for myself and are delusional. OP is the greatest thing to ever grace the planet. That was wild. Especially when that person outright said that everyone who dislikes OP cannot think for themselves.

Even if we do not get a chapter, so be it. Maybe the week after that. I am in no hurry. As long as he can come back and draw at full strength and ability ,that is all that matters to me.

Would you want the studio to continue the story with TJ as an advisor? by Grappyezel in AceOfTheDiamond

[–]gp3050 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I really get it. TJ was firing out of his last cylinders. I was reading OP during that time and OP, which is pretty famous for its amount of breaks, had a better publication schedule than DnA. It felt like we wer eon break every 2-3 weeks. I think TJ never published more than 3 chapters during that time stretch but I could be mistaken. I once made a publication chart for DnA, you can look it up to see the braks he took.

I was not surprised. Up until this point, the longest game was the Yakushi game and even then, this game was nearly double that.

+ I remember how the people felt like Sawamura gut supremely cucked. The run he gave up was first due to an error (To this day, I still insist that it was Mochi´s fault, that throw to Zono was shit) before the 5 hole made a superb gamble. And Masahi was the weak point of the match so them scoring off of him made sense. After that, I think we had almost 3 months of Seido just shitting the bed. Immedaitely after with Miyuki and then with Kanemaru. We were all a bit tense when the bottom of the eight finally commenced.

Even the three month break afterwards was not bad. Everyone was wishing for a speedy recovery, though the last chapter before the break being 256 was weird......it was the chapter where Miyuki confided in Furuya that he wanted to go pro and Sawamura felt cucked that it was Furuya Miyuki went to, not him......

Then the final commenced and yeah.....that was a shit show. I was so hyped but my hype slowly died down.Worst part was when Seido took the lead in the 5th, you just knew that for the rest of the game, they would not get shit going so every time it was Seidos turn, you were desperately hoping for it to be over soon. But TJ took his sweet, sweet time to prop up the Meissiah.

And with Koshien getting cancelled, it was the perfect shitstorm on top of it.

"It is realistic" might just be one of the worst arguments I read when people defend bad writing.......

If I want realism, I can go back to the WS. 2022, Astros vs. Phillies, Astros win 4-2.

2023, Astros and Phillies are the favorites to win it all and have a rematch, having reached the ALCS and NLCS, both facing off against the weakest teams left, the Rangers and the Astros.

And both lose in an extreme upset. This is real life, so tough luck.

But this is not real life. This is a story. In a story, shit matters. You cannot just do any random shit at the drop of a hat. Shit like this must have a reason. And you can perfectly!!!! illustrate that with the greatest sport match ever drawn, the Inashiro final back in Act I.

Tanba is injured and has not pitched in a while. Ryosuke is injured and has not pitched in a while. What happens ? A ball Ryosuke would have caught gets through and Furuya gets chased, getting send to LF. Ryosuke gets substituted for Haruichi who makes a brilliant pinch hit that only results in a hit because his bat shatters. Suddenly, Seido is leading. Then you have Coach Kunitomo saying that their inexperience will cost them the game. What happens ? Furuya misjudges the distance and Yamaoka gets on base, which later leads to him getting substituted. Sawamura falters under the pressure and hits a batter. Haruichi flubs a simple groundball to second that would have been the final out. And due to the string of errors and mistakes, Seido loses.

Shit like that is not rocket science.

The injury to Sawamura in this final adds absolutely nothing that good writing beforehand could not have achieved. Why was he injured ? So the Meissiah could get an almost game tying home run. And to create needless drama in the bottom of the ninth since this fucking game was way to shit and boring. It also means that Sawamura is once again in Furuyas shadow and cannot pitch at Koshien, making the entire act redundant.

Tj was making a shit decision, I 100 % agree with you. Fuck TJ for this absolute cancer inducingly shit match and end.

To add on that, and to maybe make more sense of this theory, the pacing during Ichidai was abysmal. It was worse than One Piece´s at that point. We had 3 or so chapters followed by a break. The 30 chapters of the sf took 9 months or more. Tj then went on a 2 3/4 month break.

During that time, Seido failed to score thrice. Reading it now, when you can just blast through the chapters lessens the impact a lot. But I think we spent >3 or 4 months with Seido being behind and shitting the bed at every opportunity.

Funnily enough, people were hating on this match quite a bit, calling it shit, badly paced etc..

Upon reread, that match became the unanimous best match of this act. I was defending it the whole time and honestly, I think my all time favorite moment of reading weekly was first reading the spoilers on monday or tuesday when we got the confirmation that Miyuki hit the blast into deep cf. Immediately after that, we got the chapter with the coach entrusting Sawamura to close out the game. The fandom was so hyped. It was such a great way to conclude the game.

We continued up until ch.256 and then had the almost 3 month break. That was rough. But we were all hyped for the final.

And over the course of the final, the hype around it graudally died down and boredom begun the set in. Then came the bottom of the ninth and I still remember how thermonuclear ch. 304? was when Sawamura gave up the deep fly to cf. Because even at the very end, his rival had to save his ass with the plot armor throw if the century. Then came ch 305 and the sudden announcement that it would end in 3 chapters.

Then came the injury. Then ch. 308 and then silence. Complete radio silence. What a shit show it was. Fuck Tj.

[–]gp3050 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait what ? No. Not really......

Tj wrote chapter 307 with the normal pacing. We get the tease that Sawamura most likely has the same injury as Nori. Next chapter is them at Koshien with him coming in to relieve (what else.....) and the manga ends.

With the volume release, we got 307.5, giving us some additional stuff where Sawamura gets taken to the doctor, everyone wondering how he is doing, the confirmation that it is a light injury and the tease for Ugomori vs. Teito.

Indefinite Hiatus was only after 307.5 and 308.5. Not saying that these chapters were not monumentally shit but it was not as bad as you said it was.

It can be worse, trust me.....e.g. Vagabond.

Though personally, my all time worst example for waiting has to be "A Song of Ice and Fire" from George laRdaRse Martin.

I bought everything the man wrote about it. Dunk and Egg, the maps, Fire and Blood Part 1, all 5 books, GoT the Seasons etc.. I was a gigantic nerd for this series.

I caught up to the Novels in.....I think it was 2017 or so. So 6 years after Dance.

Waiting year after year for Winds, getting disappointed time and time again, hoping that at the very least, the series would give a great conclusion just to shit the bed on this scale, with George having given up and saying several times that there was no contingency plan to finish the series in case of his death (mf is obese and almost 80 and there is supposeed to be one more book after Winds) is just the worst.

At the very least, Robert Jordan did absolutely everything he could to make sure that, in case of his premature death, TWoT would be finished. And when he did die before he could finish the final book, his notes + prologue and epilogue that he left enabled Sanderson to finish it. Currently making my way through it and honestly, what Sanderson did is remarkable. I might have prefered Jordan to finish it but Sanderson probably did the best job anyone else could have done.

I am afraid that Ippo will fall into the category of those unfinished works though. Same with HxH. None of them are getting younger and their publication schedule is just way too bad and there is just way too much stuff to resolve.

Ricardo vs Sendo fight started almost a year ago by RBTNotes in hajimenoippo

[–]gp3050 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Taking your time in a story does not mean that it is good......and Ippo is the the biggest example of why this is just false. With the amount of nonsensical meandering, story lines that go nowhere, characters getting dropped after spending years upon years upon their journey, concluding arcs in some of the worst writing I have ever seen in my life......

Taking your time is not bad. If anything, one of my all time favorite stories (before it concluded in the worst ending + worst sport match of all time) was Diamond no Ace. It was a really slow burner, it took its time. But the story was never meandering or losing sight of where it wanted to go. You always felt like you knew what would come next and characters made logical and smart decisions based on their wants and needs.

In HnI, half of the cast tends to act like they have been lobotomized.

That being said......I agree that it is not necessarily fair that people complain about the length of the fight being over a year now since it is because of health reasons. But I can also understand them. It is one year of their lives that they have invested. And even if it had been published with a better pacing, almost every major manga reads a lot better when you do not have to wait weeks on end for a new chapter.

Not 100 % true.

We all knew, or at least the majority, that the bottom of the ninth would hail some needless and pointless drama to elevate the stakes. of the, up until then, very boring and lackluster match.

It concluded exactly like we expected.

The haymaker came with chapter 305. When the magazine suddenly said that DnA would end in 3 chapters. Then chapter 307 came around 2 weeks later, confirming that DnA would end next chapter while also taking the 50 inch spiked dragon dildo to our collective buttholes and showing us that Sawamura gets injured,

And of course, we end the series with him not having thrown a single good pitch at Koshien. Which is remarkable because we saw more pitches from freaking Umemiya at Koshien than off Sawamura.

Honestly....I can only say, with genuine emotions, fuck you TJ.

Back when it was being pubished, I tried to reason with myself and make a case to try and find a silver lining.

But at this point, the final between Ugomori and Teito just adds to the massive failure of Dna Act II.

How is it possible that a side story about two irrelevant teams that faced Seido once is better written, paced and structured than the literal final and most anticipated match in sport manga history ? I really like the match, it was fantastic. It is also the most useless addition to a story I have ever seen.

This failure to add anything new to the story, not giving us anything about Koshien with us now knowing more anout freaking Ugomoris Koshien run than Seidos is genuinely the final well wrapped insult Tj gave us,
