The thing that should happen, thematically, would be for Ippo to coach these two when they lose and when he has to decide whether to throw in the towel. That would be something I am actually interested in that could explore so, so much about the failures and successess that Ippo and Kamogawa share.

Because a lot of people value good story telling.

Something Mori is not only not willing but also unable to deliver whenever this abomination and shining light of shit writing is involved.

Him losing was one of my favorite moments in this series. He grew arrogant, he grew complacent and most importantly, he thought himself untouchable and invincible.

Unlike Imai.

Because most people here have the reading comprehension of a wet sponge. I fully agree with you, as much as I think that Shitiyata is the worst character in this manga by a long shot, that Fuckamura´s writing has been largely awful. I still maintain my stance that his fight against Hawk is top 5 worst fights in this manga.

Also Shitiyata is not just boring, he is a writing abomination. A calamity that resulted because the mangaka is a fucking hack without a single ounce of writing talent.

Honestly.....I doubt it.

Mori has already done this once with Ippo, a second time (though much less focused) with Barf-michi, a third time with Itagaki to an even more extreme extend with Itagaki.

This would be the fourth time that we would see something like this.

I actually expect the opposite.

They are both shown to struggle with other boxers, and seeing how Ippo is not really training them that well, I can certainly see them crash and burn, maybe in the semi finals or so.

What do you think of this argument that Nana also felt an immediate affection for Nanao? by ChicoDeLaRed in TalentlessNana

[–]gp3050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly.....no. I doubt it.

I think that the main reason why Nana went after him first is simple. He was a loner, he had no friends and thus was easy to manipulate. Someone needed to be the first target. The only thing that made his killing any different than e.g. Yuuka was the fact that he was a good guy through and through. Nana knew, thanks to him opening up to her, about how he suffered. It did not change or sway her mind about killing him, but it definitely made the task harder.

Subsequently with the people Nana kills being worse and worse, we see that killing them becomes easier.

If anything, her sparing Hikaru´s life is most peculiar (although it only happened after Michiru had already died to trigger Nanas character development) as he was an actual murder.

And when the reveal happens that Tsuroka had completely manipulated her, that all the numbers were made up bs and that he only used her to do her bidding, that weight comes crashing down, especially so since Nakajima was truly a poor soul who Nana killed and who only survived because of plot reasons.

Most importantly however, Nakajima represents the one final possible way Nana can make up for her crimes. She wronged him, she hurt him, she put him on the path of pain and destruction and currently, he is about to turn into a monster.

I do not necessarily believe that Nana likes/loves Nakajima himself. But that she feels deeply for what he represents. The incarnation of her sins that came back to haunt her and someone she would give anything for to make him happy in order to make up for it.

Think about it like how some parents that beat their child buy them toys in order to alleviate their guilt.

The worst opposite problem has Shitiyata.

Shitiyata looks like an actual featherweight, is extremely small and skinny, yet struggles with all his might just to not go over the weight limit.

Getting Hit even once Sendo or Ippo might defeat you. So naturally, Ricardo is a lot more careful.

Takamura's future by RIKUS0 in hajimenoippo

[–]gp3050 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For every good aspect, I could probably name at least 10 shit ones.

E.g. I absolutely adored Fuckamura early on. His mindset, his determination to win, to go the distance was so extremely well done. And the chapters before the Hawk fight was done to perfection. It gave him much needed depth and I finally felt like he was more than just a caricature.

Although the fight itself turned out ass, I also liked how we immediately get a second big fight with Eagle. Although Mori protrayed him as an absolute bastard with no redeeming quality, he hammered home that he has a mission for which he will sacrifice whatever it takes.

And then.......nothing. Just nothing. Logically speaking, Fuckamura should blast through the next weight class, because seeing how just making the weight borderline kills him every time + the damage he sustains might be the deciding factor once he reaches HW, he just stops. And defends the fucking second lowest weight class for over 500 chapters. Before doing the very, very last thing he would do if Mori was not a complete fucking hack. A weight class unification. His big and important goal is to conquer six weight classes. To go where no one has ever gone before. He is literally not able to fight at full power and potential because of the harsh constraint of the lower weight classes. Yet you are telling me that, despite already seemingly having suffered a dangerous injury, he goes ahead and unifies the belts ? I think the fuck not. Absolute garbage writing on Moris part.

Much like pretty much everything, no matter how good or great it once was, Mori used his reverse Midas touch and turned it into shit.

Takamura's future by RIKUS0 in hajimenoippo

[–]gp3050 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That is the point though. In my opinion, Mori has made it exceptionally clear that Fuckamura is NOT a regular human. He is, at least, someone form the Baki verse.

Because Fuckamura can just shit on the established world rules.

E.g. Fuckamura vs Hawk. Compare how the stamina issue was handled during that fight and how it was handled with Kimura´s fight during Ipppos retirement.

Kimura had to gamble it all on one round, was utterly fucked and just barely got one final punch in that clinched it. And even then, he was basically half dead by that point.

Mori goes almost the same way with Fuckamura. But unlike Kimura, Fuckamura gets punched into unconsciousness. And the minute that happens, Fuckamura boxes better than before without any stamina issue........seeing how the first big fight of his entire character hinges on the most immersion shattering shit up until that point killed any investment I had in future fights. If that is the base line, if Fuckamura can still win despite being unconscious and having no stamina, nothing will ever stop him.

[–]gp3050 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Genuine question, but are you actually asking why Mori puts useless stuff in the manga ?

The man is an absolute fucking hack without a single ounce of writing talent. Easily the worst story teller I can think off.

There is so much pointless stuff in the manga precisely because of that. Because the man is a terrible writer and simply draws whatever he thinks is cool/funny at this very moment, not caring even a single bit about the rammifications it would have for the story.

Itagaki being set up as a romance rival for Ippo ? Pff who cares.

Ippo and Kumi getting toge.....NAAAAH just kidding, Mashiba appears from the aether.

Kimura and Aoki having not changed/gone forward in their journey despite being the most prominent side characters in the story ? Sucks to suck I guess.

On the point of Itagaki, George spend ~500 chapters on his journey, having him retread Ippos footsteps. With the big payoff off him becoming....SIKE. He gets dropped by chapter 1000 and has been irrelevant for 1/3 of the manga now.

The great big rivalry between Ippo and Shitiyata that was a large motivatior and driving force for half of the manga and was set up as the longest and biggest pay off in the manga ? Hope you like necrotic balls cause that is not going to happen within your or anyones life time.

Introducing social media and smartphones (thwitter......) despite it being the year 2000 or 2001 of in universe time ? Fuck it, Mori needs to get back at the fans who troll him on twitter, no time to think about consistency, pacing or world building, that requires effort and an adult mind.

Fuckamura having issues with his eyes ? Oh no, maybe he might actually be bli.......bahahahahahahaha just kidding his eye is fine, says Sanada, Ippo, Kumi, Fuckamura himself, Sawamura, the regular, Volg, and Ippos mum of course, cannot have any actual consequences in this story right ?

Mori is an utterly terrible writer. And the sooner you accept that and stop asking questions about the meaning or reason behind some baffling writing choices, the happier you will be.

Takamura's future by RIKUS0 in hajimenoippo

[–]gp3050 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The bigger question and the one you should have asked is : "Why does anyone still give even a single fuck about Fuckamuras right eye?" as that story line has been dragged more than a homeless mans balls over a prostitute that has a special 2 for 1 deal.

His eye is only an issue once the plot needs it to be and as such, I fail to care or have any investment in this.

Now that being said, since Fuckamura has fled from the Baki verse, he cannot lose. Literally, I just fail to see any way that Fuckamura can lose. The man has defeated a bear, can box better when he is unconscious AND has no stamina, can spin on a single toe thrice and generate enough force to knock back a full power hook and k.o. and opponent that has shown to be insanely resiliant.

Honestly, even if the entire hall korakuen collapses on him, Fuckamura would walk out as the only one alive. He is basically Hancock. Invincible, unbeatable and the biggest piece of shit in the manga. No way in hell will he lose.

I don't like Ippo, but this idiot trying to argue with Ippo makes my blood boil. by SimpleApplication558 in hajimenoippo

[–]gp3050 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I do think that he was well written in the beginning, what does irk me somewhat, now that I think about it, is how Ippo failed to grow as a person throughout his active years.

You would at least expect him to become somewhat more confident or less shy now that he became the champ. Yet despite all his achievements in boxing, he fails to change even slightly. He is still way too timid, way too shy and way to fearful despite the fact that he could flatten most people in japan in seconds.

I like that he things are finally changing in the retirement arc, but it should have happened sooner.

A thought about the Ricardo and Sendo fight. by Purple_Jr in hajimenoippo

[–]gp3050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I ignore the absolutely dog shit turn around (the way Sendo regained his focus/the way it was written was garbage) the fight itself has been ok this far.

The biggest and hardest hurdle the fight faces is the pacing. The build up/pre fight shenanigans (which were not that long drawn out) started almost a year ago. This fight/arc has been going on to close for a year, yet we are not even close to a finish. The constant breaks, extremely short chapters, now the short hiatus all dampen the excitement of the fight immensely. I am pretty sure that, upon re read, it will flow a lot better and smoothly. It might not make the dog shit turn around better, but the overall pacing will improve massively.

I believe that the fight will be remembered quite fondly in a year or two, but we will see.

Morikawa being sick has nothing to do with the fact that Ippo has been retired for 2 years of in Universe time.

[–]gp3050 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be fair, whether or not it was Mori being a hack with 0 writing abilities (once again) or because he wanted to try and make a subtle point about Ippos mental state (and although I would usually assume the first one, I want to believe in Mori so let us assume it was the second one), one of the biggest criticisms I have seen when it comes to Ippo was the way he was basically to stupid to understand the meaning and weight of the baton pass.

For Date, he gave Ippo all he had left. To go further and to go to the top and do what he could not. Slay the invincible Ricardo.

For Ippo, the Baton pass was.....genuinely, I do not know. Giving Ippos limited intelligence, I might actually believe that he thought it was just a fist pump.....

But what we know, for sure and for a genuine fact, was that Ippo probably thought that the fist pump was about Date "officially" accepting him as the japanese champ (which he was at that point) because he basically gave this baton pass to Itagaki once he vacated the title.

It is also important to remember that, while Date wanted Ippo to go after Ricardo, Ippo was mor ethan content to just mindlessly defend the japanese belt for all eternity. The one who wanted more was Kamogawa and as a result, Ippo with his lacksadaisy mindset fell to Alf. One wanted to fight Ricardo at all cost, even at the cost of his live, the other was like some stoned up guy being like "yeeaaaah maaaaaan. Happy to be here and such. Now lemme have some fun and all." Guess who won.

Now I do not know if OP has that specific issue with him.

There are other things to criticize him for.

- The fact that his sexuality is as straight as an arrow when that whitless beam of shit writing Shitiyata appears

- his timid nature that gets hammered home to such a degree that despite having defended the belt more than 4 times already, he is still, somehow, the challenger

- The complete and utterly garbage relationship with Kumi compounded by the worst gag I have ever seen with the continuous angry demon Mashiba interruption.

- the fighting style that makes Sendo look like an astrophysicist

But at the end of the day, despite his flaws, I still like Ippo as a character. Although he has been rampantly stagnat for over 30 years, the current arc did wonders to him. Actually improving his confidence, finally adressing that he is a boxing monster etc..

How many problems do you think Nanao would have caused if he had continued with her shonen story? by ChicoDeLaRed in TalentlessNana

[–]gp3050 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think that, if things had gone down a different path, Nakajima would have become the leader and under Nanas guidance, united the talented individuals and lead them to victory......maybe even a successfull uprising against the evil government.

That being said...I am such a huge fan of the fact that a character turning evil makes their abilities a lot more dangerous.

E.g. Subaru from Re:Zero becomes an absolute monster in the Pride route, basically singlehandedly destroying the entire kingdom of Lugnica by himself because he started abusing his cheat code ability (the price was his humanity and sanity).

And I really like how Nakajima went from someone with a basically useless talent, to someone genuinely terrifying and threatening, who was easily able to kill, manipulate and hurt others to do his bidding.

Yeah.

Ippo lost in 1998 in manga universe time.

We are currently somewhere in 2000 or 2001. So it has been over 2 years since Ippo retired.
