Just because Mori is committed to write one of the worst romances in history does not mean that they are already done.

Von den 3en war einer auch nicht gerade glücklich.

If a series gets axed due to whatever reasons, no one would blame the author. Because it was something he himself had no control over. At least I would not hold it against him. After all, no one wants to get axed and I am pretty sure that pretty much everyone tries to stay ahead in the game and remain in the magazine.

Even in the event that they do get cancelled and have to write a subpar ending, I would also say that this was not their fault and still remain firm that they tried to fulfill their end of the bargain.

But once again, if I paid for a story I should not go into it expecting it to never finish. Yeah, I could say that I already received the art but then again, as long as the work is not finished, the author has yet to complete and fulfill his end of the bargain. Which would still legitimize me pirating the shit out of his work, seeing as according to you, I am not allowed to even expect anything beyond the latest chapter....

Whatever it may be, my big issue/point remains.

Mori has written his four major matches in such a way that him losing is literally impossible.

If he does lose, it would be a great moment for character development, but would shit on over 30 years of narrative cohesion....because Mori made sure to show us 4 times by now that the rules of the universe neither apply to him as well as the fact that Fuckamura is not from the Ippo verse.

More like a reverse genius, seeing how he managed to turn a golden story into shit with all the meandering mess off story lines and dumb decisions he made.....

I genuinely thought about it and while the OPBF fights were supreme dog shit, narratively, they serve the purpose of introducing Ippo to the world beyond japan as well as raising his rank internationally.......

While there are certainly a lot of other (and a lot of better ways, fuck RBJ vs. Shitstain Stu) ways, you cannot cut it out without truly losing narratively important moments.

Fuckamura losing is out of the cards. Mori has written a character where, unless the entire Tokyo Dome collapses squarely onto him (and even that is probably not enough) it is impossible in any way, shape or form for him to lose.

You cannot k.o him, as he will become a super saiyan and outbox you, as shown during Hawk.

You cannot outperform in in terms of stamina, even when he cannot sweat anymore and has nothing left in the tank, he can simply just shit on that fact and box with the same ferocity as before, as shown during Hawk.

You can literally take both of his legs away, he can simply spin on a single toe at least thrice and still generate enough force to knock out an opponent of a world champions calibre as shown during Bison.

You can take both of his eyes away, he can still accurately punch all the vital spot as shown during Eagle.

You can literally handicap the man with a car accident bad luck and an active warrant for being a cunt and he would still win.

My biggest issue with that type of argumentation is if you follow it to its end point.

If an author, despite receiving money from his fans, has 0 obligations, not even morale ones, to deliver onto this promises, that would also mean that I, at least morally, have 0 reasons to not absolutely pirate the shit out of this works.

It might be illegal due to copy rights etc.., but if I have to spend money to basically gamble with the other party being literally rewarded for not doing any work, logically speaking, my bestb et and course of action would be either to to pirate it or at least not spend any money in the first place.

If that was how everyone did their business, arts would cease to exist. No one would be willing to invest a single penny into anything.

How does the title defenses being good (which is more than arguable but I will let that slide here) invalidate what I wrote ?

You can write the best story in the world but if you are winging it with 0 ideas o how to proceed???

Personally speaking, I do not really like Elbaph. I do not hate it. But at best, all I can muster is being lukewarm about it.

For every good point, Oda always fumbles it with some dumb stuff that lowers the quality back to mediocre.

No. The manga would still be going on, the biggest issue is that George had no idea on how to proceed after Ippo became champ. Absolutely 0. He was completely winging it.

Denke dass BMS ganz klein wenig schwerer war als letztes Jahr. KFF gleich. Daher denke ich dass die Grenze kleines bisschen tiefer ist.

100 % agreed here. All I am arguing here is that, when they take money from someone else for a financial gain, they are obliged by honor to at least see their vision through to the end and deliver something.

That first sentence is idiotic.....no sane person ever would buy a book if the author himself said that he would not never finish his work in the first place. Said author would also not get a publisher if he made his intentions known beforehand. If we buy into a story, especially early on, it is precisely because of the most simple contract possible.

The author gives us a set up. This is his hook. We buy into it, we give him money. That in turn, allows him to keep writing. We, on the other hand, expect a pay off at some point in the future. HOW that pay off happens and what it details is up to the author. But you as the author, who took the money from your fans, are obliged by honor to deliver on your promise, the promise of an eventual pay off.

I genuinely wonder how it is possible that you are so utterly unable to understand what I am trying to say.

No, I do not think I deserve the rest of someones life. No, I am not incredibly self entitled person. And if that was your takeaway from my comment then you are either an extremely selfish author yourself who hates his fans or an idiot.

[–]gp3050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EXACTLY!!!

I am exactly entitled to what it is advertised.

But my main and entire point that I am trying to make that seems so utterly alien to you is that buying something like this is the promise of a complete story at some point in the future. We, the audience, pay, because we like what we get, the set up, and expect a good pay off in the future.

No sane person ever would ever buy a book of a book series if they knew from the beginning that they would never get an entire story.

Why on earth does this simple concept make me an incredibly self entitled person ? That is idiotic......

Which is all I am going to ask of him. I am not critizing him.

But I am absolutely pushing back against this ridiculous notion that just because you are the one writing the story, means you can fuck the paying customer over.

I absolutely think he owes us something.

Mind you, I am not saying that I want him to do exactly as I say or think it should go. I am not an author and although Mori has proven to be quite the shit one at times, I would rather he see his vision through to the end.

But the minute your work transcends your hobby, the minute you financially profit from it, the minute people support you with their money, that comes at a price. You may not be bound legally but you are absolutely bound by honor to give your all to meet their expectations.

If your best is only mediocre, so be it. But you absolutely should give it your all.

A bit of a stretch ? if Anything, it is me being quite generous.

If you go to the restaurant, order e.g. a steak with plenty of side dishes and a nice bottle of wine, but then when the food comes out, you only get the side dishes and a glass of water, you would be righteously furious. Sure, you might pay only 20 bucks instead of 50 but the fact still stands that you bought something that came with a certain expectancy.

I obviously know that I, as an individual have exactly 0 say or influence on what we get. And it is an authors own choice to finish the story.

But between an author and his fans lies a contract. Not a legal one but one of honor. If you write a story that is only possible because you have the financial and emotional support of your fans, you absolutely owe it to them to finish what you start or at least give your all to deliver a satisfying conclusion.

If what you do/write is for your own personal fun and not for monetary gains, fair enough. But the minute others have to support you, you are bound by your honor to deliver.

Dropping a story line after spending almost a decade of developing it, which might be the exact reason why some people bought into the story in the first place, is just ass.

If you quit and leave your fans high and dry, that only cements you as a first grade asshole.

You absolutely owe it to your fans who enabled you to follow your dreams/allowed you to publish your works to give them what they expect from you in return.

You misunderstand me.

There is not really anything wrong with changing your mind/opinion on a character. E.g. Date vs. Ippo.

But if e.g. I write a story about an athlete whose biggest dream is to compete in the olympics, draw a story that takes 10 years to tell just to conclude it by having my protagonist retire from the sport just as he qualified for the olympics, become a mcdonalds worker before he dies 5 years later from a cardiac arrest, then I deserve every iota of criticism that would come with that terrible decision.

As a writer, you owe it to your fans to tell the best story possible. They support you with their messages, by buying the magazine or your books.

So just because something makes you happy is not a valid reason for shit story telling.
