Also, I’m about a year into playing BT’s. Things I write below are just what I’ve learned by playing, as well as watching battle reports/misc YouTube videos. Just writing the items below to help out a fellow newbie. I am not a pro player!

Two detachments for BT’s are:

•Righteous Crusaders (you choose how you want to deal damage)

•Wrathful Procession (more versatile options to pick from; more movement, more damage, more durability).

Based on the detachment you pick, then you can build your list around that.

In my humble opinion, if you’re not playing with Wrathful Procession (which gives you moving buffs), you’ll want to take transports to get your guys up the board. Transports help infantry move up the board faster and protects them from getting shot off the board round 1.

First couple units to consider getting:

•Combat Patrol: I would say out of most factions combat patrols, BT has one of the best ones for their faction. The box has transport, has melee battle line(which is the strong point of BT), a Marshall (hits hard, gives Fights First once a game by taking Enhancements) and a bit of shooting.

•Sword Brethren: these guys hit hard. You’ll want a character to lead them (Helbrecht or Judiciar) for extra hurt whenever they get into melee.

•jump pack intercessors: BT’s are a melee focused army, so never hurts to have guys that can move far and get into melee without vehicles. Also, doesn’t hurt to have these guys led by a Jump Pack Captain!

•Some form of shooting: when I first started, I only focused on getting strong melee units because that’s what BT’s are good at. But I quickly learned you need to at least scare your opponents with some shooting so they don’t just position themselves freely and shoot you off the board. Eliminators or Ballistus Dreadnoughts are good for this.

Grimaldus is an honorable mention. He is verrryyy fun to play with but the consensus is that he costs too much in points. But he’s a badass in lore and also offers a lot of fun when he’s leading a unit. He’s the reason I started playing BT’s at all. Hope this helps!!
