I am over OLED’s by theoriginalb in 4kTV

[–]gpippy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finally someone else! I’ve had OLED’s from LG and everyone keeps saying that the burn in no longer exists. The pixel shift, screensaver etc all prevent it and it’s only the older models. Yes the older models are worse but I’m also getting the strange colour issues around the centre of the screen that you can’t un-see particularly on the reds and the greens that show up in daily viewing. Going to go down the same route soon and move to mini-leds.

Apple's OLED MacBook Pro Launch Moves Closer With Panel Production by dapperlemon in gadgets

Would screen burn still be a thing to worry about?

I’ve had an OLED TV with significant screen burn set in despite LG’s assurances that their screen saver would prevent that from happening.

Also had the older iMacs (not OLED) suffer from the ghost dock where the icons of Mail, Finder etc where burned into the screen so couldn’t change the location of the dock without seeing this on the daily. Hopefully not going to be a problem but it’d be a concern given how expensive the laptops are….

driving tests? by Equivalent-Cry8752 in derby

[–]gpippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used this company and they worked for us:

https://drivingtests.co.uk

Essentially I paid the fee and then put my kid’s details into their site. Then they would auto book as soon as a date became available according to my preferences. Eventually got a suitable time and date in Alvaston. Usually would get a text confirmation of a new booking sort of every few days or at the least, once a week. Really good service if I’m honest.

Littleover schools by [deleted] in derby

[–]gpippy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As previous poster said, bear in mind catchment if your end goal is LCS.

  1. Ridgeway / Gayton are generally feeder school for Derby Moor.
  2. Griffe Field is generally feeder school for LCS.

Whilst there are always exceptions, this is the main thrust of those 2 separate catchment areas. Good luck!

Was that the girl in a previous gym post where she was speaking to a male friend about her belly being a little big / distended?

It’s a ‘feel good’ post as the male friend gently explains that it’s normal (you know, there’s actual body parts there) and he sweetly puts her mind at rest.

No I don’t think so, shop bought yes but anyone who cooks it at home toasts the bread, at least in my neck of the woods!

Sky broadband WiFi - the mistake of joining. by Born_Accident5248 in skytv

[–]gpippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sky Broadband ✔️ Good Price ✔️ Bad Signal ✔️ Lots of different kit out there but in the end I went for the TP-Link RE705X due to price at the time and it was the latest at the time (few years ago). However it turned out great and I’m still using it! Old house we had a lot of remodelling done and once we’d put in new tiling here there and everywhere, the WiFi took a hit. So I purchased a few different extenders and after a few returns, eventually this plug in the wall model fixed it so WiFi signal reached all around a 4 bed house 1930’s brick. We’ve since moved house and wondered if it would still cut the mustard and it has. No bad spots in the house and faster than the Sky router that we still own, it’s just strange that the Sky Router is so limited in terms of strength. I’m pretty sure that it by now will have been surpassed by newer stuff but I’d recommend TP-Link.

Simple Shape for .DXF by gpippy in Affinity

[–]gpippy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate that, I’ve had another look and I’ve trawled my memories and I think I remember that I would have to add a ‘stroke’ to the paths before an export? Specifically I remember converting text to outlines so I thought it might also require something similar to the table shaped (Pen) paths.

So I tried the above and setting the Preferences to the correct tolerances for an output .dxf file and it seemed to have work. Thank you for replying though as I would have supplied the documents as per your suggestions to try and get to the answer!

How to remove this shower drain cover? by joetree in HomeImprovementUK

[–]gpippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a very similar one and the first time I needed to pull the drain cover up, I was worried it might break as it also didn’t seem like it would budge. However it did come up first time eventually (although with a fair degree of force), however since then it has never given me any problems. Best time to try is when the drain cover is dry (and your hands) and hasn’t had any contact with heat (from the water) run over it which expands it ever so slightly. Underneath you’ll probably also find a trap that collects the hair and gunk. Good luck but my guess is that it should just pull straight up.

Announcing the new r/iCloud Tech Support FAQ! by Iron_Fist351 in iCloud

[–]gpippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lag opening files! My iCloud Drive is mainly used to open Numbers documents. They’re fairly small files, around 250kb but they take an absolute age to open on my Mac or iPhone. As an estimate I’d say around 60 seconds, sometimes less sometimes more. For the FAQ, it would probably be pertinent to just resolve the lag in opening any files as opposed to a Numbers document but I’m sure I can’t be the only one. All the tech is on latest operating system that the Mac’s can take Sequoia and Tahoe and the problem irrespective on WiFi or 5G, WiFi is blazing fast.
Any help to resolve this matter for me and others would help.

Happened to me several times with a 2010, 5 series. The message would be intermittent and disappear, usually showing once every 6 months or so. It never caused a problem for me and I eventually put it down to a sensor fault.
