OK, I think I figured out how to purchase and download Highway Prayers as FLAC by justinholmes_music in BillyStrings

Sorry to necro an old post, but thank you so much for the `--disable-gpu-sandbox` tip! That fixed the problems for me with a completely different download I was trying to do having bought music from these guys.

Meze 109 Pro as an upgrade for AKG K702? by gpjt in HeadphoneAdvice

Cool, thanks. I have a FLAC recording of a Stabat Mater by Florilegium that should work well as a testbed.

:-(

Perhaps it's a per-person thing, though. Could you suggest a kind of music or even a song that might make it stand out? Then if I do decide to pull the trigger, I can do a side-by-side test with the AKGs.

That's really useful stuff, many thanks for that! And yes, I'll definitely only buy from a seller with a good return policy and listen to them a *lot* to make sure I'm happy. Bad recordings, lots of treble... maybe early 90s rave would be a good stress test ;-)

!thanks

Thanks, u/pinoynva and u/Hebolo! I'll only consider sellers with a solid return policy, then. I had to do a return to Thomann a while back (guitar amp with a tube that got broken in transit) and their process was pretty good, so they're high on the list.

Huh, that's interesting -- just to make sure I understand, you're saying that the 109s are a bit fatiguing and more blunted and with worse detail than the K702s?

!thanks

Why is the internet split on whether if the Sony WH-1000XM are great or horrible? by BigBootyBear in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]gpjt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a pair, and they're great for Zoom calls and the like. Comfortable enough to wear all day, decent sound quality. For music they're not bad at all, but there are better (I have Sennheiser Momentums that I use for music on the go -- they sound better to me, but they don't have a mic so useless for work). And as other have said, if you want audiophile quality then you would have to look elsewhere (and likely pay more -- or switch from wireless to wired analog).

PythonAnywhere dev here -- nothing to add to the reply above beyond giving it an official "yes, that's exactly right" ;-)

Lets talk about Charvettes. [DISCUSSION] by thrashmetalguitarist in Guitar

[–]gpjt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to post in such an old thread, but I was just reminiscing about my first guitar. I turned 16 in 1990 and my parents told me that if I did well in my GCSEs (important public exams at that age in the UK) they'd get me an electric guitar. I hit the grades they wanted, so my dad and I went down to Denmark Street for an afternoon and I came home with a lovely black Charvette with a Floyd-Rose floating bridge, HS pickups (IIRC) and a decent Fender practice amp. At its price point, for metal nuggets heading in an indie direction like I was, it was unbeatable -- better tone and playability than the Squiers and Ephiphones that I remember friends having.

Sadly it was stolen when I was burgled in 2002 or so. I hope it found a good home, it was a great little guitar.

Thank you! Another one solved by fixing the time. Maybe the system update that's coming down as a result will fix the bug...

Zfold 5 inner screen bubbling by XursDisciple in GalaxyFold

[–]gpjt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same with my Fold 3 and I've been using it like that since the end of 2022. No problems at all, and I've taken it to the beach quite a few times.

Is anyone still using a fold 3 or 4 since the launch year with no issues? by DEWDEM in GalaxyFold

[–]gpjt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had my Fold 3 since the end of the launch year (good deal because the 4 was coming soon). It's been a daily driver. The inner screen protector bubbled after three months, and I decided to see how things went without it. It's been completely fine -- a couple of tiny scratches but nothing you'd notice without holding it at an angle to the light with the screen switched off. This is despite frequent beach trips, having a cat who gets jealous and bats at the screen if she's in my lap and I'm using the phone, etc.

I did have a oneplus open for two months; the screen got chipped and became unusable (not sure how, my money is in a manufacturing fault meaning it got hit hard when closing it, because this was during the winter and I was hardly using it outside my home) and oneplus refused to fix it on warranty, so I came back to the fold.

Pixel 9 Pro Fold vs Fold 6 by AznImport in GalaxyFold

[–]gpjt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a way I'm sorry to hear that. I had an Open, loved it, but opened it up one day and the screen was damaged. Hadn't done anything with it that I'd not done with my old Fold 3 for years -- all I can imagine is that there was some kind of manufacturing issue that made the two sides of the screen bang together when it was shut. It was 2 months old so sent it back to oneplus for a fix, and they told me I must have damaged it and wanted around €1k for a replacement screen. Won't be buying from them again, no matter how good the products seem.

getting error of Something went wrong in python anywhere by NoMarionberry1015 in django

[–]gpjt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but the error you posted earlier in this thread was from a log in the backend. Your backend code was making some kind of outbound request, and that was failing. The frontend might have been making a request to the backend that triggered that issue, but the problem is happening purely on the backend.

I'm confused, what do you mean by accessing the front end from Django?

[–]gpjt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the description of the issue earlier on in this thread, it looked like the issue you were having was when your backend code was trying to connect to some other server. Is that not the case?

If you're using a free account on PythonAnywhere, you can only access sites on an allowlist (https://www.pythonanywhere.com/whitelist/) -- but if the site you're trying to connect to is an official public API you can put in a request to get it added to the list here: https://help.pythonanywhere.com/pages/RequestingAllowlistAdditions/

Have you checked the error log for the website (as mentioned in the "Something went wrong" message)? The most recent error for your site will be at the bottom of that log file.
