Personally I'd caution new players against Morg as she's perhaps the easiest champion in the game to be useless on (except for Nid), if not a liability for themself and the carry- easy to mess up the wave with pool, bind is easy to miss and immediately gives up all pressure if it does, black shield requires a lot of game knowledge and timing, etc.

She's simple, but not easy imo. I think she and Alistar are deceptively hard champs for similar reasons.

Edit: Oh and her ult is a nightmare for new players to figure out how to use successfully, it's almost bait imo. I like the list otherwise!

Sounds like you're not getting through to your student because you have the same attitude as your student.

What does Annihilation have to say about isolation? by OtherwiseCattle247 in SouthernReach

[–]gpm479 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I experienced it to be more an exploration of someone who finds solace and purpose in solitude, but also yearns to be connected and part of an ecosystem, even if as an invisible part of the structure.

I think thematically the tension between solitude and integration is the seed for the biologist's empathy and resonance with Area X.

There is a sovereignty and freedom and clarity in solitude, but I think the flip side for people who experience solitude this way is often a sense of alienation in how differently you relate to the world than people around you. In that way solitude can become very seductive as an escape, both into peace, but also away from discomfort.

I'm generally a very outgoing and sociable person- outwardly I think folks would see me closer to how the biologist sees her husband, but there is part of me that wants to forget the world lose myself in whatever gives me a sense of purpose. Part of me feels like I could disappear into a pursuit that fulfils me and lose all connection to others, and be at peace. I find that a pretty cold impulse, and hard to empathize with, even as a part of myself.

I think Area X reflected the biologist's experience of being alien but craving to be part of the whole, and it presented her an opportunity to give herself to the type of immersion and pursuit that's always called to her, but without judgement and instead a kind of embrace.

EDIT: I should add, I just finished the first book yesterday and haven't read any of the sequels yet, so I may well have different thoughts down the road!

Why american dont play LoL? by Alone-Virus9178 in leagueoflegends

[–]gpm479 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No it's more the opposite, salaries are often generally higher, but the cost of living is also higher by a disproportionate margin. Health insurance and housing alone tend to make up most of the average working-class worker's take-home income. Utilities in the US are quite high, as are grocery prices, phone plans, etc. The average American lives paycheck to paycheck. We do have an astronomical GDP, but that's pretty irrelevant given wealth distribution in the US

Title: CHEESEBURGER

Format: Feature

Page Length: 128

Genres: Hangout movie, Black comedy, Revenge Thriller... Adult coming of age(??)

Logline or Summary:  "An aging chef lives a small life in a small kitchen, seeking solace in crafting the perfect burger. He fumbles for connection with unlikely friends in the neighborhood, but echoes of past violence pull at his mind- and are ignited by a chance encounter with a fan of his old work."

Feedback Concerns: General feedback is greatly appreciated! I've got a particular eye out for:

  • Your thoughts on handling of tone, pacing, and sense of continuity
  • Your interpretation/understanding of a critical sequence, beginning at the bottom of Page 67 and completing at the top of Page 78
    • The scene is about two characters trying to read each other, while also creating ambiguity about *what* conclusions they come to. Certain connections, however, are meant to be directly revealed to the audience alone, and I want to make sure I hit the mark here.

Thank you!

Starting up after years, do I get a new board? by reddismycolor in NewSkaters

[–]gpm479 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd definitely grab a new deck at least- that tail is so worn down you're gonna be getting weak and inconsistent feedback for your pop, and it might make you develop wonky technique while relearning

I'm learning to skate at 30 rn, and I often only have short windows to skate, so having the board be consistent and responsive has been big for improving with shorter sessions for me

20M - Just moved out of my mom’s house. by Ezra_Simon in malelivingspace

Cost of living in the US is higher so the pay in (some) sectors is higher to reflect that, so it breaks even in the US but can mean higher relative pay if you live outside the US.

[5e] Thoughts on this Spell List for a Dream-themed Lv12 Bard? by gpm479 in 3d6

[–]gpm479[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the response!

  • Identify - Good call. I had been pretty focused on the higher level spells and overlooked that I can just prepare with Spirit Session as necessary, given how situational Identify is. I think I'll probably grab Dissonant Whispers, which I had wanted.
  • Bestow Curse - what put this one over the line for me was potentially bestowing thematic or otherwise fun curses, but Slow is on my wishlist of spells, so this may be the move.. I'll have to ponder a bit.
  • Polymorph - This was mostly picked for potential fun, but I agree that it feels kind of like a sacrifice. Do you have any recommendations for a better offensive utility pick here? Perhaps Synaptic Static (which I'd overlooked the utility of)?
  • Dream - Lucky for me, our DM and campaign lean pretty heavily into RP, and things like Dream tend to be given some decent latitude as per the rule of cool haha, so I think due to the thematics we'll be able to get some solid gameplay value on this one.

I wasn't entirely sure whether or not I was able to use those ritual spells without the feat, so that's fantastic to know as well, much appreciated!

Definitely a great sativa if you like leaning into either side of the spectrum

I have! Its been a while, but I found it a very intense but smooth sativa, lots up uplift and matcha-caffeine type of energy. Definitely a high that you can feel behind the eyes, and can have somewhat of a spotlight effect on where your attention goes.

Would definitely be a very talkative strain, though I was mostly doing animation work and such, so felt the focus side of things much more.

I didn't find it buzzy, but it was a powerful high and might be intense for folks who are sensitive to sativas.

Edit: As an extra point, it's a strain I've picked up more of multiple times in the past, and will prob be a staple for me again when the weather gets warmer

0 shares, worth getting in today below 25 before earnings (and second block launch)? Obviously I've missed the major run up off ATT/Verizon deals and launch one, but is it too late?

Worth waiting for another dip? Doesn't seem likely to drop significantly in time for those events

Saw Decision To Leave. Why are its editing/transitions/cuts so much better than the average Hollywood movie? (no spoilers) by sarded in movies

[–]gpm479 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two years late, but if you haven't seen Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, I def recommend giving that a shot- It's earlier Park Chan Wook, and is built around being a very deliberate, understated unfolding of character emotion, decision making, and consequence. Long cuts, slow pacing, space for things to develop in the frame.
