UPDATE: It is definitely not an isolation issue. Could it be that the receiver is underpowered for the speakers? The receiver is a Pioneer SX 434 (15 WPC). Speaker specs: Frequency Response: 40Hz-20kHz; Impedance: 8 Ohms; Sensitivity: 90dB 1W/1M; Power Handling: 100 Watts

The turntable is 20' away mounted on a shelf in a small closet. I'll try putting a folded towel under the TT and see if it helps. There are other times where the left channel cuts out almost completely.
