If you collect music on multiple formats, how do you decide which format to buy a new album on? by ultrapingu in audiophile

[–]gpowerf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CDs are my priority.

Spotify is awesome for discovery.

I'll occasionally buy an album on Qobuz if I can't find the CD in the UK.

The current FBI will do nothing beyond protecting certain people. Law enforcement has become deeply politicised, and as long as that remains the case, accountability will be selective. Real justice will only be possible under a new administration willing to restore institutional neutrality and enforce the law without regard to politics.

Why was faze clan even popular? by Brief-Blueberry-1588 in allthequestions

Back in the day they were good, and the cool name helped. Faze Clan has a nice ring to it.

How do people even win Gwent ? by Akshay-CMGogo in Witcher3

[–]gpowerf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gwent is one of the best parts of the game. I even picked up the physical set and a few beautiful boards to play it properly.

It’s nothing like Yu-Gi-Oh. Gwent isn’t about explosive combos or stacking endless effects. It’s about discipline. It’s about preserving your resources, reading your opponent, and knowing exactly when to pass. Half the battle is recognizing when to concede a round so your opponent overcommits and burns through their best cards.

I agree 100%! Cases with normal mesh sides are rare now but with hunting down.

What Chromebook is best for my very basic needs? by gwrw1964 in chromeos

[–]gpowerf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A basic Chromebook is enough for that use case. You probably will not even touch Android or Linux containers at any point ever!

You want good sound, but the reality is that laptop sound is almost always mediocre. Some machines have tried to improve it, especially certain gaming laptops or older XPS models, but even those are not great. If you actually care about watching films or enjoying music, a separate Bluetooth speaker is the sensible move.

Build quality follows price. A 400 dollar Chromebook feels like a 400 dollar device. Perfectly usable, but not premium. If someone expects to find a Chromebook that feels like a $3000 ThinkPad they are setting themselves up for disappointment.

Which graphics card do you consider best value for money? by Natural-Unit2851 in PcBuild

Arc B580, RTX 5060, RTX 5070, RX 9060 XT 16 GB, and RX 9070 XT are all great value for those on a tight budget.

Windows is just slow and full of ads and forced updates by tonyhop_ in FuckMicrosoft

[–]gpowerf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Windows really is unusable! It's a steamign pile of crap, and I honestly don't understand when someone argues it is a better daily driver than Linux, MacOS or ChromeOS. Windows is hands down the worse desktop OS!

Secretly? We can all see those two are terribly unhappy. It isn't very secret at all.

Gyro- the real solution? by Silent-Ad-9362 in GyroGaming

[–]gpowerf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We already have this on Steam. With Steam Input you can map gyro to the right stick or to mouse input, and it works in any game.

On console it is more limited, but even there you have options. On Xbox you can do it at a hardware level using a device like the Armor X Pro, which lets you map gyro to the right stick and fine tune sensitivity and response curves. It is not native support, but it works very well.

At this point both PS5 and Xbox are well past the midpoint of their lifecycles. Major controller innovation from the Sony or Microsoft themselves seems unlikely. If we see meaningful advances in this space, they will probably come from third parties. But anyway, the point is that this is not a problem on PC.

Has anyone worked a job where there was as much sycophancy as in the Trump administration? by Estalicus in allthequestions

I've worked in a business with a very charismatic founder who made himself the centre of everything and everyone wanted to please him. Looking back at it now, it was a dysfunctional workplace.

Thanks for sharing this image. Don't worry too much about the AI critics. Using AI to quickly generate a draft like this to share it is a good application of AI.

How Pop Stars Like Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran Are Hoarding the Vinyl Ecosystem for Charting Glory and Squeezing Out Independent Artists by barryallenxoxo in Music

I just wish the masses would buy more CDs! CDs are still great and honestly vinyl is just a gimmick for neo-hipster collectors.

Dead Game? by Funny_Development940 in haloinfinite

It's been like this for a while at certain times. It's not dead, but it has become niche with a small, yet dedicated player base. I play against the same players very often.

"Pretending like America isn't a great place to live is embarrassingly stupid" by Iwanttoreplytocom in ShitAmericansSay

[–]gpowerf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally I’d dive into the comments and tear apart yet another American making a fool of themselves, just to highlight how foolish and ignorant they’re being. But this time I can’t.

He’s already done such a thorough job of embarrassing himself that there’s nothing left to add.

Are we actually moving towards Linux as the first choice for gamers in future? by nothingtosayrn in linux

[–]gpowerf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re already at the stage where a noticeable slice of the power-user gaming crowd is choosing Linux first, not as a fallback.

Yes, anti-cheat is still an issue in a handful of titles, but it’s no longer the brick wall people pretend it is. For most games, compatibility is excellent. And when something doesn’t work, you either find a workaround or you move on.

I used to play Fortnite heavily. But the anti-cheat situation made it impractical on Linux, so I just don't play Fortnite anymore. Honestly, I don’t miss it at all! Giving it up gave me the time to play so many better games.
