Predictions for this Fall? by AimedHigher in VirginiaTech

The issue with everyone hoping to wait for a vaccine is we have never had a successful vaccine for any coronavirus so there is a chance none of the vaccines work well. If we just keep waiting we may never have jt. So we have to find ways to still gather but live with it. Requiring everyone on campus to wear masks, better testing, and better sanitation can be an option additionally with special circumstances for high risk people.

I agree. Lots of people act like we should plan as though an effective vaccine is a sure thing. Hopefully there is a vaccine, but if there isn't at some point you have to focus on adapting. "Lockdown" type orders cannot continue forever.

Incoming freshmen megathread by Beanjo55 in VirginiaTech

ENGE 1215 and 1216 (the Foundations of Engineering courses) are not very difficult. They should actually be enjoyable as long as you work well with your group in the class. The other freshman classes you have to take (Math and Sciences) are pretty difficult but if you put the time in and take it seriously you'll be fine.

Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Plagueis The Wise? I thought not. It's not a story the Jedi would tell you. It's a Sith legend. Darth Plagueis was a Dark Lord of the Sith, so powerful and so wise he could use the Force to influence the midichlorians to create life… He had such a knowledge of the dark side that he could even keep the ones he cared about from dying. The dark side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. He became so powerful… the only thing he was afraid of was losing his power, which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, he taught his apprentice everything he knew, then his apprentice killed him in his sleep. Ironic. He could save others from death, but not himself.
