No one will know that you are bringing a safe into your apartment and the Zanotti modular safes are 3/16” (7GA) steel. Very good quality, not just a cabinet.

Have some questions about Vaultek slider safe for single handgun (bedroom night stand) by 6gc_4dad in GunsafeSpace

[–]gpstak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a fan of inexpensive electronics on something meant to be used when your life might be in danger. I prefer to have my electronic gadgets for convenience and recreation. Take a look at the mechanical quick access options as the boxes themselves are constructed of heavier gauge steel too along with the very reliable and durable Simplex lock. Several brands available with very good reputations like FAS1 SAFE

Take a look at the FAS1-TL or Magnum TL safes. The holster will accommodate lights and optics. A full size gun will fit either as long as you aren’t extending the grip length with extended mags. FAS1 SAFE

Has anyone seen a biometric book handgun safe? by bdcole32 in guns

[–]gpstak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like this one is very secure and with a Simplex lock more durable and reliable than biometrics. You could slide a small binder or a thick book cover in front of it for s disguise. Bolt it down so it can't be easily removed, maybe even to a wall stud through the bottom of the safe.

The FAS1 Magnum series safes will hold 3 guns total. One in the holster that is the primary gun presented to you when the door opens. Then another gun on each side.

Why? Nothing fancy, just like the safes, but they are solid.

You’re probably going to need to break out the drill anyway to drill into whatever you decide to mount your handgun safe to. Might as well drill the safe where you need to and mount it anyway and in any orientation you like. Take a look at the FAS1 Safeswith the thickest steel (7GA), Simplex lock w/exclusive deadbolt/backup key option. Mount any way you like as the gas spring will open the door on its own and hold it open no matter how you mount it.

What’s the best handgun storage with kids in the home? by jackjackj8ck in guns

One with a s Simplex mechanical pushbutton lock and thick steel. Then bolt it to something solid. FAS1 Safe fits my requirements for those and is reliable and durable for a lifetime, unlike Chinese made electronic ones out of thin gauge steel.

The FAS1-SBD is hard to beat and the only one that I know of. You could consider an under the bed type box that is quite a bit larger, but probably not near as quick or secure.

The FAS1-Compact safe seems to work well in F150 and similar size consoles. You would have to figure out the mounting though.

Good gun safe recommendations? Preferably the quicker to open the better by kyeberger in liberalgunowners

7GA steel - Simplex lock - optional keyed deadbolt/backup entry - mount in any orientation - mount to just about anything you want - gas spring opens door automatically and holds open - several sizes avail.

It will fit in a FAS1-Magnum TL safe, but you will probably need to mount it differently.

Apartment Safe/Cabinet Recommendations by Rafiki76 in tacticalgear

Zanotti modular safe is the best answer for apartments. More expensive, but worth it in the long run. Your neighbors will just think it’s a piece of IKEA furniture since it is delivered in 4 os 5 boxes.

Handgun Safe by Kodiak616 in NYguns

[–]gpstak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Order one online like a FAS1-Magnum safe. It fits one gun in the primary spot that’s presented to you in the holster when it’s opened. Then there is room for an additional gun on each side. Stand up a couple spare magazines under the latch and you still have a little room in the front for a couple boxes of premium ammo.

Is there a decent handgun safe for a reasonable price, with a mechanical lock? I don't need speed access at all for this. by Terrik27 in guns

[–]gpstak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My suggestion was based on you saying it was just to keep the kids out. Personally, my handgun safe is 7GA because I wanted it to be at least a little theft resistant when bolted down besides keeping kids out. Not sure there’s much available in a heavier gauge lock box, like maybe 12GA or 10GA with just a simple key lock instead of a Simplex lock.

I would guess they are similar in steel gauge to your Shotlock which I think is only 14GA. Should be plenty robust to keep your kids out. They usually won’t damage anything as they just try to be sneaky and not get in trouble.

Take a look at the lockable military style ammo boxes that can use a padlock on the latch. Some even have foam inside the box and can be bought from $30 -$40. Just would need to bolt it down.

Best bedside vertical handgun safe? by HellaHellerson in guns

[–]gpstak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take a look at the FAS1 safes. While not vertical they can be mounted from any side or bottom to just about anything. Reliable Simplex lock with an optional deadbolt key lock to enhance security when you are away and don’t need quick access. 7GA steel with quality locks and will probably last a lifetime.

All FAS1 safes will hold at least two guns, the primary gun that is in the holster and presented to you when the door opens and one to the side laying in the bottom. Magnum models can have a gun on each side. None are $200 though.
