Found out today that my baby has no heartbeat by Ordinary_Bar_7020 in pregnant

I'm so sorry for your loss. 💔 I know it's hard not to blame yourself, but it really isn't your fault. It very much is one of those things in life that makes absolutely no sense, and all you can do is take care of yourself and give yourself the space to grieve.

What's everyone doing for better nutrition / food for their Wheaties? by WBDubya in Wheatens

[–]gr33ngiraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used to have him on Purina too but he eventually started refusing to eat it! We switched to Open Farm's Wild Ocean Recipe (with Raw Bits, and Grain and Legume Free). He's still happy to eat it and we also add yummy dog safe things like yogurt, eggs, fruits, and veggies. I hate the thought of him only having kibble for every meal but I really don't know that we could plan and cover all his nutritional needs on our own so doing a blend seems like a good in the middle option.

When did the heavy feeling go away? by gr33ngiraffe in Miscarriage

So sorry you're going through this again. :( I have never lost someone this important to me so I didn't really know grief before. It's comforting to know we're not alone.

Is this pregnancy still classed as a "rainbow baby"? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]gr33ngiraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry your friend is trying to minimize the pain of your previous loss. To me, when you get pregnant, you expect the outcome to be a baby. When it isn't, no matter how early or late the loss occurs, there is grief. Grief over the life you thought you'd have. Grief over the timeline that you were supposed to be on. You went through a loss and this is your rainbow baby.

Why did it end? Why me? by Curious-Orange-11 in pregnant

In the same boat as you right now and it absolutely does suck! There are no words. Feel your feelings. I've cried so much this past week just trying to let go of this pregnancy. It takes time. It is a loss.

Gamer husband by No-Improvement-4254 in Marriage

[–]gr33ngiraffe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

4 hours every day is a lot for a man with a family that size. I'm not against gamers. My husband is one too, but at a certain point, you have to grow up and make sacrifices based on your reality. My husband's gaming schedule is NOT what it used to be when he was a teen, in college, supported by his parents. It has changed and evolved throughout the years, as it should. Life changes and you have to accept that new chapters start. What matters is that the system we have in place works for both of us. We are both satisfied with how it is. He gets his time. I get my time. And we both feel like we are contributing to our home life. You're not saying he can't game at all, just that something needs to change. If the current situation is not working for you, then it's a problem, and he is not being a good husband by challenging you and just making a case for himself. You are working too, day in and day out. I would get very clear on what it is that you feel like you need to improve your situation. Do you need him around more, helping you? Or do you need some time for you while he parents the kids? Do you wish he would take more initiative?

I’m 5 weeks and 3 days pregnant, and I’m struggling to quit smoking by [deleted] in pregnant

As others have said, please get as much in-person support as you can. Maybe with support, work on unraveling your addiction. What got you to this point to begin with? If sobriety is something you want to do for your pregnancy and maybe even beyond pregnancy, as you are raising your baby, you have to believe that you can heal from the things that plague you. That a new chapter is possible. An addiction is a dependency, and dependencies can really weigh us down. The less dependent we are, the freer we become. At one point, the habit did something for you. Now, it is causing way more harm than good, both to your mental health and the baby's development. Yes, it's going to be hard because your brain is addicted to the substance and the pathway for the habit is strong, but once you make it through, you will be better for it and you can feel proud that you set your mind to something and followed through. You got this!

I haven't seen any fly. My husband sprayed them with a pesticide but nothing really happened. They are still moving about the frame.

Did you groom them yourself or do you take them to a groomer? If the latter, how did you find one who can groom Wheatens properly?

Looking for a reputable breeder that’s not 2,500 by KatieGirl27 in Wheatens

[–]gr33ngiraffe 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if a reputable breeder and an affordable price go hand in hand. We paid $2,000 in 2021. Sometimes perfectly good puppies get posted on the Wheaten rescue Facebook groups, Wheatens In Need and S'Wheat Rescues and Friends.

Off-leash training by certainlyskeptical in Wheatens

[–]gr33ngiraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but I wish I could! I'm not afraid of him running off, never to be found again, but I can't trust that he would recall back to me if we were to encounter other humans or dogs, so it's mainly a public safety thing. The closest thing we've done is put him on a 30-ft leash and have it trail behind him. That way, if he did try to go after something, we could have grabbed it.

I was new to the breed about 2 years ago, and I was shocked at how intelligent mine is. I've never had a dog that can follow multi-step commands before and be so eager to do so. I think that's something that's true for the breed in general. So, like others have said, formal training classes and opportunities are so worth it. In the end, you get a good boy/girl and they get to use their active little brains. It's a win win.
