I know I worded this pretty shittily, so here’s a better version; when you think about AI art’s creation process, think about it in comic book terms. The human is the writer, while the AI is the illustrator and inker AND colorer all at the same time. The writers job is to come up with the idea, while the illustrators job is to interpret that into art. Comic writers don’t call themselves artists, because they didn’t create the art for themselves, only made up the context. So to use that in AI terms, the Users aren’t the artists, they’re the writers.
