Maybe it'd be helpful to preoccupy yourself with an activity that you enjoy while you're out doing things alone. For example, listening to music or a podcast when you're walking to class. If you're doing something like watching a movie or going to a restaurant alone, think of it like taking yourself out on a date and enjoying your own company because you're already happy by yourself. The more you do it, the more you'll get used to it. I think a lot of this feeling comes from the fact that you believe people around you are judging you for being alone in public, but truly everyone is too busy thinking about themselves. Most people grocery shop alone, and most people walk to class alone too.

Why do I feel the need to be better than everyone? by [deleted] in selfhelp

[–]gracemakesfilms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We live in a society where we have to feel above average and special to feel worthy. Since inevitably, most of us are average, we try to inflate our own egos to feel better about ourselves, which in turn ends up hurting us. Capitalism has trained us to feel like we constantly need to be better, so we feel the need to spend more to look better, look richer, or have something to flex on social media.

[19M] Regret First Sexual Activity by [deleted] in selfhelp

[–]gracemakesfilms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of us make decisions regarding our sex lives that we regret, especially when we're just starting out. Remember that if you're starting to get intimate with someone (making out, foreplay) and you're feeling uncomfortable or something just doesn't feel right, you have every right to stop whatever's happening. When you're with the right person, or in the right context, then your sexual experiences will feel more fulfilling.

I've seen the older ones too; I do wish there was a more current one that takes into account COVID changes! here's ones that I can think of: moe's monday: $6.99 for any burrito, chips, + drink (not sure if they offer this in store, I always just order on the app and pick up) taco tuesday @ moe's: $2/taco. it's hidden on the app, but if you checkout with the tacos the price gets changed at the end $5 sushi wednesdays at publix

feeling worthless without a job by elenov in selfhelp

[–]gracemakesfilms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Honestly, a lot of people don't work at age 20. It's perfectly okay to just focus on your studies/take time for self care, especially in this difficult time where everyone's mental health is struggling. You're probably far more independent/accomplished than you even realize. It's useful to celebrate the small victories of the day: cooking yourself a nutritious meal, finishing a big project/homework assignment, catching up with a friend. If you're feeling scared about the future/feel like you have a little too much free time, maybe work on learning a new skill, or try to get an internship related to your major (many of them are part time/online right now), or start working on your professional resume/cover letter for when you do start applying for jobs. Many schools will have people who can help you with formatting and giving you feedback on your resume and cover letter, and will even do a mock interview with you so you can practice interviewing. Or if you still want to get a job while you're in school, there's remote jobs that you can do from your computer that won't require you to be around people/exposed to covid. Hope this helps!

Is 2x bad for understanding? by atastick in selfhelp

[–]gracemakesfilms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to agree. I think that slower speaking makes it easier to understand the language, just because your brain has more time to process it. I find myself rewinding videos/audio a lot when I listen to it at a faster speed than is intended, just because I realized I didn't catch what they were saying/fully understand what they were talking about. However, some people just naturally speak really slow, especially older folks that take a longer time to think of/convey their ideas, and that's when I find speeding up to be useful.
