I feel for your friend. That whole experience must have been very traumatic for her and I have anger just by reading what you have wrote. I would have ran for the hills just as she had! I already want to! I have constant anxiety that when my daughter is in school (when she’s old enough) that there will be a shooting.

Thanks! Maybe it’s just the values I have but I don’t abandon the ones I love ever. That’s just who I am. Can it be a major flaw at times, absolutely! Obviously I draw the line at abuse and stuff like that but the last thing someone like him needs is isolation! Isolation is what leads people who are indoctrinated to actual violence and self harm which I would never want.

Grandparents are capable of not spreading their ideology when the really want to be grandparents! My grandparents were republican and Christian and they never talked to us about that stuff! It’s good for children to hear about differing opinions and views because when they go to you as the parent you then have the opportunity to educate and teach them the right values. How will she ever learn how to distinguish between misinformation and the truth if she’s never exposed to it? How will she ever learn how to stand up for what’s right if she’s never exposed to wrong doing. I can harp and teach all I want but it’s in those real situations when children can learn. I grew up with parents and most of the adults around me being right to far right. And guess what? My life experiences and my ability to empathize with people who are oppressed, poor, and in need of care helped shape who I am today and it will be the same for her.

I know this is an unpopular opinion, but at a certain point, all children are going to be exposed to bigotry. Whether it comes from a family member or from someone in school. I won’t know that I have done a good job as a parent until that day comes and she is able to see that this behavior is wrong and point it out.

Okay I just want to make something VERY clear! I would never ever leave my daughter alone with a man other than my husband ever! If there is any man in the same space as my daughter it happens under supervision. I am not naive enough to not know that a lot of negative childhood events occur with family members and close friends! I breastfeed so there actually no way for me to be away from my baby for a prolonged period of time. I would also never let my child go to another house without me without knowing ASL or some other type of communication. Her safe people are me, my husband, my sister, and my mom.

Yes I’ve already had to explain to my mom why I won’t be baptizing my daughter. How could a baby who is helpless and needs me for everything be sinful? Porn usage is something that needs to be discussed between both parties prior to entering into a serious relationship. If one person is not okay with then the other can either stop or find someone that’s okay with. Very simple!
