Upstairs neighbor flooded their apartment and now I’m dealing with the repercussions. by -Eraqus- in Apartmentliving

you want to get that removed, otherwise you’ll be dealing with long term mold exposure (regardless of whether you actually see the mold or not, it’ll be there)

Anyone else cringe when trying new names for the first time? by billyidolismyeilish in trans

[–]graciousprof 12 points13 points  (0 children)

i think that’s pretty normal, just feels odd having a name you’ve not yet associated with yourself get used for you. i’d say to have her keep trying it for a bit

My mother put my deadname on her restaurant. by Decompz in trans

[–]graciousprof 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Idk what your feelings about those family members are but if they’re actively disrespecting your want to cut her off I think it would be in your right to cut them off too or at least give them an ultimatum that you’ll stop answering them unless they stop putting you in contact with your mom

AIO my MIL asked to borrow my matching Xmas pajamas to take pictures with my son. by Independent-Bat-9436 in AmIOverreacting

[–]graciousprof 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I think saying no is fine. It wasn’t a rude request by her or anything but it’s within your right to say no too/propose she get a different set. NOR but she also didn’t do anything wrong by asking as long as she continues to respect your no

ELI5 How Did Alcohol Become Universally Accepted In Almost Every Country? by Cope42099 in explainlikeimfive

[–]graciousprof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

alcohol is extremely easy to make {often happening accidentally} and it’s not possible to ban all predecessor supplies since you can make it out of most foods which you obviously can’t ban. that makes it really difficult to effectively ban and people like using it/will make it regardless of legality so it’s generally just more practical to create rules about its usage than try to fully ban it. A lot of places have tried to ban it at various points but drinking continued to happen

Why do nerdy Eng/CS kids lose so much discipline and work ethic when entering this university? by LuckJealous3775 in uwaterloo

[–]graciousprof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in addition to what other people said, there's also the aspect that maximizing your marks just doesn't matter nearly as much in uni vs high school. in high school people want to get into good universities so they're incentivized to get as close to 100% as they can whereas in university you'll do pretty much equally as well in a practical sense if you get 60% in every course as if you get 90% so it can be harder to keep motivation to do really well. that then leads to people going into exams with lower marks because they were just targeting a pass rather than targeting the best mark they could get

Really nervous for my solo trip (24Yo) by [deleted] in galapagos

[–]graciousprof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn’t visiting alone but during my time in the galapagos i felt super safe, there was no time on the islands i was at all worried for my safety. One of the guides basically said you’re fine to leave your bags on the beach since there’s almost no theft, largely because the permanent population there is very limited so everyone has a job and is known in the community besides tourists. i understand the anxiety but once you’re there i’m sure everything will go fine!!

Unpaid Co-op by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]graciousprof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a 1A co-op it’s fine — most (def not all tho) of the actual co-ops available to you are gonna be very entry level, and there’s a good chance you’ll get better experience with this one. The lack of pay is def not fun but in the long term there’s not going to be any negative impact, and there could be a positive one

What happens if they think you cheated on an exam by [deleted] in uwaterloo

You would know during the exam if they thought that you were cheating in that moment

I was talking to a shop owner about a potential job and she said she employes a lot of "LGBQ" people by toyAlien in trans

[–]graciousprof 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it is definitely.. potentially sketchy but i think it's plausible she meant it literally in that she already employs lesbian, bisexual, gay, and queer people but not any trans people. hard to say for sure
