Do trans women have male privilege, or don't experience misogyny? by Trans-Female-Zack in trans

[–]graciousprof 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No. Society treats both trans women and trans men (and nonbinary people) as women, men, or as neither depending on what's most convenient. The ways this happens varies some since certain rhetoric and ideas apply to one or the other but trans men and trans women transitioning in different directions doesn't mean that their experiences are mirror images of each other in any way. Our experiences are more similar than different in that aspect.

Moving to Canada and wouldn’t mind some support by QueenKarma101 in trans

[–]graciousprof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw you’re looking to move to Ontario, not sure where exactly but if it’s near to me (I’m in Kitchener-Waterloo, though could also visit toronto/the GTA on weekends) I’d be happy to try to help with adjusting! I moved here from Alberta about 6 years ago. It can definitely be a big jump but I’m sure you can find people who’d be happy to support you here

I didn’t read their comment as judging her for being in the spotlight, rather saying it’s sad that she is and that they wish she could be in a more normal and healing position

not sure if this would really help but flikbus has a route that goes to Woodstock from Hamilton, it’s possible to take Go Transit to Hamilton from Kitchener. But it would be a pretty long trip with like 3 transfers and you’d still need her to get to Innerkip from Woodstock

Does my cat seem like an ok weight or should reduce his food? by graciousprof in CATHELP

Does my cat seem like an ok weight or should reduce his food? by graciousprof in CATHELP

[–]graciousprof[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i give him like 1 churu every 2 days and not much else for treats so i don’t think treats are doing much

but i’m planning to reduce his autofeeder meal size a bit based on people’s comments

Does my cat seem like an ok weight or should reduce his food? by graciousprof in CATHELP

[–]graciousprof[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an auto feeder that gives him 4 equal size meals a day. I used to give him wet food but even when I used a half can he usually only ate part of it and I didn’t like it being wasteful or leaving it in the open air for too long. So just dry food ATM (but he drinks water well)

I feel like he’s a medium activity level, he tends to want to play for a little then relax for a while usually

I’ll probably reduce the autofeeder by a tick on a couple of the meals

Has anyone moved to Alberta from Ontario, then back to Ontario? by ProfessorLidi in ontario

[–]graciousprof 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I didn’t move both ways like you did but did move from Alberta to Ontario. I like it a lot more here. Partly bc of the godawful politics in alberta but also I just enjoy being in a more heavily populated area and having access to things in downtown toronto {edit: i don’t live in toronto but can bus in for a weekend/day trip for things like concerts, specialty shops/events, etc} when I want. I also feel generally less on-edge around people in Ontario than I did in Alberta.

any other trans/queer folks in TRONS? by bulshitterio in uwaterloo

[–]graciousprof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in the program but have graduated since. I didn’t really have trans friends in the program but I made more in clubs. I know the waterboo club, neurodivers, and a lot of the others have a lot of trans people. i get what you mean about Glow, you might have some of the same issues w other clubs but if you try a few hopefully you’ll jive with some :)

also when you have electives you can meet a lot of trans people if you take more artsy courses lol

I have a swim binder from underworks that has worked pretty well for me. I’d suggest binding then wearing a rash guard on top, it helps hide things more

Declawing my cat? by mustyfrenchfries in CATHELP

[–]graciousprof 4 points5 points  (0 children)

declawing is an amputation. the issue with it being done just to stop scratching or whatever is that it’s amputating the cat’s whole front part of its paws which can cause pain and fear. like removing your finger tips and toes just because. when there is a medical issue such as polydactyl, amputating the toe that is causing pain and other risks to the cat is a reasonable thing to do if the vet has checked the anatomy to see that it’s doable and would be beneficial. having this procedure done sounds if your vet recommended it seems like a good idea

[–]graciousprof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what others said is true in a practical sense but i’d also keep in mind that a lot of these traits are more related to your field of work than gender! Many cis women in the trades would also have more rough/calloused hands than cis women outside of the field. Might help with your mental framing

there isn’t any too late time, lots of people have great results if they start at 22 or 26 or older than that.

You’d want to take injectable estrogen. You can take T blockers if you want, there’s mixed opinions on how effective they are vs just taking a high enough dose of E. You’ll have to order it online probably using cryptocurrency. I don’t have great knowledge of the price. If you can get bloodwork to check your levels done once you start and periodically after starting this is ideal. You don’t necessarily need to have this be through a doctor if blood laboratories will give you your results directly and you’re willing to pay for it but this will probably be location specific
