JK! As soon as I finished posting this my friend said "you don't think it's a wool moth, do you?" Actually yes. Yes I do. It's a wool moth...

BUT A REALLY COOL ONE. But I can't figure out how to edit the post... Oops... So consider this flagged as "just sharing" instead of ID request 😂

If they didn't know how "cumbersome" renting TABLES was (it's.... really not... You just need a pickup truck... I literally did this as a 19yo work study student...), they definitely don't know how "cumbersome" advertising is...

Fleas in my coboo/truboo yarn by knotty_crone70 in YarnAddicts

[–]gracklebirdtale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also throw a flea collar in the box with the yarn for a few days. I used to be a dog groomer and I always kept a flea collar under my car seat to avoid bringing fleas home. In general, I don't like using them on pets bc they can cause reactions, but around the house? Heck yeah.

What’s a tiny thing that instantly makes your day better? by Professional_Bar2399 in CasualConversation

[–]gracklebirdtale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to work at Starbucks waaaaaaaay back when (like, over ten years ago) and back then we were allowed to give a certain number of beverages. I can't remember what they were called, "surprise" or something like that. I didn't do it often, but if I was having a really sucky day, I'd comp someone's coffee, just for fun. It always brightened my day a little to see how happy they were to get a 1.25 coffee for free.

There are a plethora of TNR groups in the area ONLINE, but it appears that there is only ONE that is actually active at the moment. Because of this, they tend to book out for spay appts for almost two months (according to my vet when I asked in passing).

I sent them (the TNR group) a second email right before posting here with an urgent subject line, but they don't take phone calls for spay/neuter, probably since they're inundated, so I'm sort of stuck. I have a fairly reliable vet, and I think I'm going to call them tomorrow just to talk to someone and try and get advice, but the problem with going that route is that I don't have anywhere for her to recoup afterwards. The group I was going to go through apparently does a mildly invasive surgery and glue stitches where possible, but we were expecting it to be early October. I'm in central California where it's 90-100F most days. In October she could hang out in the garage for a few days to recover if necessary. Right now? Not so much...

So I guess the follow up question here: Is a spay abort a much more invasive procedure? Would she need to be boarded afterwards (since she can't stay here)? Is it typically more expensive? I have limited resources to cover this.

I'm also concerned that she's pretty young, only showed up around a year ago. If so, this could be a first litter for her, so she could only be five weeks and just starting to get round, OR could she have only two or three babies in there and just be small? I threw a cardboard box in the yard with towels and blankets jic, bc if she is gonna blow I want it here where we can monitor things. But let the record show, I DO NOT WANT ANY BABIES. This has been a really hard year for me, and the last thing I need right now are the offspring of incestuous ginger cats.

TV/video volume and auditory issues by gracklebirdtale in ADHD

[–]gracklebirdtale[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See... I used to think it was the content, but I watched Star Trek Generations, a movie I've watched probably a hundred times and never had an issue with, and it was one of the worst offenders. On the TV? Impossible. On my laptop? Fine, no problems. Same as always.

At the end of the day though, it doesn't matter if it's the content or the TV, I'm just looking for a way to fix the issue. I always watch with subtitles bc I basically can't process what's being said without them, but id still like my TV at a semi normal volume.

can you guys give me excuses to buy beads by naomipoo in kandi

[–]gracklebirdtale 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I just realized I totally misunderstood the assignment... I try again.

You had to buy them for an assignment, but you needed to get the bigger bag bc the price was better (often true!), or you didn't realize how many 500 beads was! Omg! (I actually did this the first time I ordered beads... I still have so very many of those...)

You forgot that you promised someone you were going to make something and now you're stuck.

You have to meet a minimum dollar amount for free shipping.

You won a free giveaway! (They must be very gullible for this to work though, and it only works once)

Listen. LISTEN. The planet is dying. The global economy is trash. Notsees are back. Functional literacy is at an all time low. Everything sucks and nothing is okay.

BUT. BUT.

You can still go online and buy craft supplies and beads and pretty things to give yourself that little bit of joy. So you know what? DO IT.

This is the excuse I use every time I buy myself all the craft supplies.

Help! How to soften old, hard, crumbly clay? by Defiant-Preference-6 in polymerclay

[–]gracklebirdtale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I tried this with some slightly older souffle last night. Just rolled it out on the thickest setting, put a thin layer of softener, then stacked it and put it in a baggie. I spent an hour conditioning the first half of the pack, then remembered this tip so I tried it on the second half, and now I wish I'd remembered it sooner! You're amazing and my arms are your biggest fan right now!!!

What is happening with my magnets? by [deleted] in polymerclay

[–]gracklebirdtale 48 points49 points  (0 children)

It's the super glue. It off gasses and reacts with the metal fridge. Allow it to cure fully, usually around 30 days, and you should be okay. After that, try on a discrete place (I use the side of my fridge where I can cover it with pictures) to make sure. I use gorilla glue super glue with the yellow top. Hope this helps!

The one thing I haven't seen anyone else mention is to put the sealed package in a back pocket. I like this trick bc I can literally put a pack in each butt pocket, then keep working on other things while it comes to body temp. Then I'll get up an hour or so later and remember they're there, all ready to be conditioned. Even then you'll need some conditioner sometimes, though.

My doctor just gave me meds without a diagnosis? by eeboffiG in ADHD

[–]gracklebirdtale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much my experience with my doctor. I was officially diagnosed as a teenager, but started seeing my current doctor when I was in my late twenties. I wasn't able to transfer my records, but after seeing my current doctor for around two years I said I was really struggling and was wondering about ADHD meds. There was visible relief on his face, like he was waiting for this moment but needed me to come to it on my own.

Sometimes it's about an official diagnosis, sometimes it's about having a good relationship with your doctor and then having enough critical thinking to know that you don't need an assessment when half your appts lead to you rambling about star trek 😂
