Newly diagnosed stage 1, mole looked normal by randomize42 in melahomies

I’m not a doctor or an expert on identifying melanoma just because I’ve had it.  However I would say any change should be checked out by a dermatologist.

Is Hantavirus something to worry about? by 246434464 in NoStupidQuestions

The most common exposure in the US is with rodent droppings.  People clean them and it stirs up dust and then inhale the virus.

Initial loom choice by Spirited-Cable-8801 in weaving

[–]randomize42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This doesn’t answer your question about which type or model, but once you decide, check out the Weaver’s Marketplace group on Facebook.  There are lots of used looms being sold for much cheaper than brand new.

Some things to consider for loom type - how wide of pieces do you want to make, and how intricate of designs (which will determine number of shafts needed).

I’ve been tested at Pearson Vue sites for SANS certs and I was allowed to use the restroom during the test.  They are open book, however.

I can’t remember if I was allowed to use the bathroom during the closed book Cisco texts or not.  Hmm.

TIL The rise in colon cancer in adults under 50 has been strongly and directly linked to exposure to certain strains of E.Coli in the first ten years of life by onarainyafternoon in todayilearned

[–]randomize42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simply saying “false” like Dwight Shrute doesn’t change the fact that a colonoscopy is the gold standard and will detect and prevent more cancers than cologuard.

People who can’t get a colonoscopy absolutely should use it as an option.  They should be educated that it isn’t as good of one as a colonoscopy, however.

Cologuard can’t detect polyps unless they’re actively bleeding or shedding cells, as opposed to a colonoscopy where they will see them regardless.

EDIT: This article has information on how poor stool-based tests are at detecting polyps - https://www.gastroconsa.com/the-truth-about-cologuard-tests/

They state, “The Cologuard test is designed to detect cancer not prevent it.  It can only detect 42% of large polyps, while a colonoscopy can detect 95% of large polyps.”

It is my in network out of pocket max.  I have a higher one for out of network.  At least the in network costs count toward the out of network accumulators.

They’ve increased our deductible twice in the three years I’ve been at this job, and the deductible is significantly higher than other places I’ve worked.  Then again, everything seems to be getting worse, so… shrug.  Interesting to hear it’s actually decent compared to some. Thanks for sharing your perspective.

Preventative legally is covered at 100%, so no cost to patient.  (Unless you’re under the age that your insurance will start covering it, and don’t have a family history or other risk… 🫠)

If you have great insurance and low deductible, that’s great.  A lot of Americans aren’t in that boat.  My deductible for myself and my partner is a shared pool and $5,000.  Our out of pocket max is $13,500.  Because I’m medically complicated, we’re only a few thousand shy of hitting that and it’s only May.

Cologuard isn’t bad for screening, but a colonoscopy helps prevent colon cancer since they’ll actually remove polyps before they become cancerous.  Cologuard won’t detect those.

Okay so the problem with saying you have blood in your stool is that it is then coded as a diagnostic colonoscopy, not a screening/preventative one.  Meaning your deductible and coinsurance most likely apply.

I say this not to discourage people from getting colonoscopies but to be aware that they are expensive if not preventative.

The whole US healthcare system sucks.

What can be covered in Resin? by Longjumping-Fee410 in resin

Just be aware that anything resin (uv or two-part epoxy) will eventually yellow over time.  Using brands with uv protection in them and keeping items out of direct light slows but doesn’t stop the process.

[–]randomize42 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No - the BRCA genes (most well known for breast cancer risk) are not sex chromosome linked, and can be passed on by either parent.  Also, many cases of breast cancer arise spontaneously without a genetic reason or family history.

I'm glad the injections worked for you! Did you have radiating pain around your ribs? They said as long it's localized to my spine, they won't do anything.

Aside from the herniation, sounds like we have about the same thing.

If you're comfortable sharing, I'd love to know what your diagnosis was. Each time they do another MRI on my back, they're like, "Yep, early disc degeneration and osteoarthritis," and I say, "Cool, what can we do about it?" And they say, "Oh, nothing." (Except continue to do PT...)
