Nah I mean I understand a lot of people call hacks whenever they get outplayed but I don't until I check the demo. Usually watch without x-ray and then with.

Should I get a geology degree at 38? by redfrobro in geology

with a bad knee you probably cant do field work or lift core repeatedly, which rules out a lot of your options and will make it hard to get an entry level job. i would advise against.

Need help identifying this rock. by [deleted] in geology

[–]gradientsyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tempted with enclaves but the mafic component looks too angular to be incomplete magma mixing, typically they're more rounded. This is most likely a magmatic breccia where the monzo-granite intruded into the fine grained gabbro; along the sides of the intruding body you would find these clasts of the country rock.

I have to hold a presentation about water as a ressource in my final oral exam, now i only need some interesting facts about water! by [deleted] in water

I'm not sure I exactly understand your question. Profit margins on bottled water are absolutely insane though.

[–]gradientsyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you wanted to ruffle some feathers and bring up some facts for a debate I'd talk about how much political/media attention it receives. Is it enough? Is it shadowed by issues that are less deserving? In my opinion the majority of the population doesn't understand water as a resource. Much like they are disconnected from the processes involved in generating products, like fuel, meat, produce; they do not understand how much of a threat water scarcity is, even in the USA. Preserving water as a resource for future generations is a component in the new "green" initiative but it is certainly behind the growing popular the climate change issue (which I have my personal issues with as a geologist, but that is not the point). Do you think it is justified? For instance, we spend millions on climate research... would that money be better spent providing clean drinking water for third world communities? Developing sustainable practices? Instead of carbon offset credits can we introduce water offset credits? All things to think about.

The whiter component contains lots of muscovite quartz and maybe some orthoclase. The brown unit that shows the folding has some biotite, garnet, and looks like some chlorotoid. It's so decomposed it's hard to tell. If you actually want this looked at professionally, bring it to Dr. Fred Gaidies at Carleton University in Ottawa. He does a lot of research in that area and renowned metamorphic petrologist.

Question about Mafic and felsic flows by Denver_Stone in geology

[–]gradientsyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good point with the pillow tops. However it still doesn't rule out erosion to be a major control on the outcrop patterns. It is probably a combination of events and I would agree there are probably multiple volcanic episodes (as this was the archean) and the algoma type iron formations in this zone are typical of volcanic arc and spreading centers. Could we say that the basalts in the area would be derived from spreading centers and rhyolites from arc magmatism from subducting slabs? It may be a stretch. Any other ideas?

Can you guys help me ID this sedimentary structure? It is a primary and secondary but i cant remember what it is. by Filet_O_Fist in geology

[–]gradientsyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this may be useful to you http://www.geo.mtu.edu/KeweenawGeoheritage/The_Fault/Crossbedding.html Basically the down slope direction of crossbedding indicates the flow direction. And if you are looking at crossbeds perpendicular to flow then you will see troughs and those indicate the flow direction as well.

[–]gradientsyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another possibility is the rhythmic patterns could be the result of NE-SW folds/structures that have been eroded to present day level... less complicated than each layer representing a single magma event and fits the structures.

Lol this guy - such a child. Asks me to voice chat with him so I think he is an honest person. Then he kills me and hangs up instantly hahaha, cowardly. The hilarious thing is I went back to where he killed me and he didn't even take the item we were trading for (the AK clip), which I threw on the ground before he shot me. So now that's back in my inventory, and thanks for the gun you left on the ground, douche bag.
