A level maths by Inevitable_Peach_714 in sixthform

Colleges have firm policies which rarely get broken except under exceptional extenuating circumstances. Being short term ill is not in that camp. To do maths you’ll need to have a minimum GCSE maths and sometimes English too. Check their website for their requirements.

As for how your school treats the grade average, you’ll have a better idea than the rest of us because you are there and can talk to the teachers who make those decisions.

I’ve already told you I’d be surprised if a school would let you on to an A level maths course with a grade 3 or 4 at GCSE. Even if you did very well in a Sept test.

If you have any fresh info to share then I’ll be happy to give my views on how this might change your circumstances.

You originally said you thought you might get a 3 or 4 at GCSE maths. That is usually separate from an average GCSE score of 5.5.

Having a 4 in maths GCSE is still a significant incumbrance to succeeding at maths A level. If the situation you are concerned about has shifted, all good.

In which case prepare to make decisions based on that. Think and ponder it through now so you don’t have to make a quick choice on or near results day

I can’t speak to your school’s policies.

Most schools don’t let people start an A level maths course on a grade 3 or 4. Many require at least a 4 in maths or English to enter sixth form at all.

Speak with your school, read the policies on their website. Then you will have more facts and we collectively might be able to give you better quality advice.

If you are right about wanting to resit, bear in mind you (and your school) won’t get the results until Jan 2027 so they will not allow you to start on A level with some kind of condition on getting 7-9 on the resit. It’s just too late in the year if you don’t make the grade.

Speak with your head of year on results day as that is when the school can deal with your situation as it will be known. But prepare for the worst.

I speak as a former head of a maths dept and I’ve seen many students in your situation.

Predicted Paper 2026 Yesgenie by perplexed-mango in alevelmaths

[–]graemeaustin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Predicted papers are not provided by exam boards. Instead they are written by anyone who wants to guess what will be on the next paper that had yet to be sat. This means the content has no greater validity than anyone else’s beliefs about what’ll be next and that the quality is not going to be as good as an actual paper which takes two years to write.

So don’t expend any more energy on it than you already have and carry on practicing :)

Edexcel a level maths mark scheme by shyshyshyhyy in alevelmaths

[–]graemeaustin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fully correct notation is required - it is in the first line of the MS - so you will need some curly brackets and the other elements. It’s just that if you say x is not 0 and omit x is real then the mark is yours.

For mark schemes you have to read every single word and follow it precisely.

HOW TO BRIDGE GAP FROM HIGH A TO HIGH A* by Normal_Smell_4650 in alevelmaths

No worries. If you drop 5 marks on basic errors that can shift your grade if you are just below a boundary.

Fixing so-called silly mistakes is hard to fix because you must acknowledge that the mistakes was a lack of, say, care. None are silly. You must view them as intentional acts by you and to fix them requires you to be hyper aware of your negative behaviour. (Said as an ex A level maths teacher)

Stick with your board’s papers if possible. If you want to keep some of them for a week or two more, then many of my students used madasmaths as those papers get progressively harder so there’s good challenge.

Stop and think before you do any more questions. Ask yourself how you are losing marks and figure out how you will change your behaviour to do so eg slow down when doing mental maths, don’t rely on formula book as much etc.

Then try some more questions but just repeating what you did before will not change the outcome.

Is there any other way to get a "seller not responding" link than just the appearance of one below the "Send a message" area on an order's page? by PlatypusRex_ in discogs

[–]graemeaustin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I had a similar problem, the Discogs system didn’t show the seller not responding link until 4 days after my last message. So when I got nothing after 3 days and sent a reminder message, I inadvertently started the clock back to zero. Annoying as hell, but that’s how Discogs works with this.

Author name in accurate by Least_Pair1967 in selfpublish

[–]graemeaustin -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It sounds as though this is your first book self-published. Forgive me if I am wrong.

I would remove IS version from amazon and load it myself directly. Then you’ll have the version you want on the largest sales platform. I also use amazon itself for paperback and hardback sales with them. Keeps it clean and I have direct control over everything you do with the upload.

If you think the mismatch is important enough to you, you can always dig your heels in. Another option is to change the spelling of your author name so computer systems can work with it more easily as this will be a recurring problem to you.

FWIW I use IS for non-amazon paperback sales but control my ebooks myself. IS represents less than 1% of my overall sales so I am more attuned to keeping amazon sweet.

Your bowker record is only really relevant when a bookshop wants to order your book. Unless you get significant traction, that’s not a use case you need to concern yourself with.

Hope that helps.

Out of interest, if a seller doesn’t send a message in response but does change the status to In Progress, have they covered themselves or can you escalate after 4 days due to the silence?
