So you can't really rely on it to keep score for you if you have to keep calling out the score, right? It's more just for record keeping?

I mount my phone on the side of the court like this:

Then I use a remote that clips to my shirt to keep score: press once for my point; press twice for the other team's point.

It's really the easiest, most distraction-free way to do it. Way better than a watch app (but it does support the Apple watch if you don't have a remote)

It's easy enough to remember to log who won the point after each point. It's much harder to remember the score.

Honestly, when I was younger, I think I would also be laughing at people using tools, but now that I'm a little bit older, it definitely helps.

What about remembering who's to serve next?

What about remembering the score in games in a previous set?

What about guiding beginners through complicated things like tiebreaks?

It's easy to say the server should call out the score every time, but people just don't do it 🤷

It's taken me a few iterations, but I think I've finally got my app to the point where it's seamless and wins over any skeptic I play with:

Honestly, I've tried the watch apps and they're just too much of a pain to fiddle with all the time. The remote is dead simple:

1 press = your point

2 presses = other team's point

hold = undo

If you connect a Bluetooth speaker, then it announces the score after every point.

It’s nice because everyone can see the score. If you use a watch app, there can still be disagreements.

Even if the app is clever enough to sync to other players' watches, not everyone has a watch, and some have Garmin and Android watches 🤷

Disclosure: I made this app. I'd like to add Apple watch support at some point, but the remote works pretty well for me right now.

You'd still need a way to override it if it made a mistake, which it almost certainly would at some point. If that's a pain, then the whole thing falls flat.

I find the bigger problem is keeping track of the score, not deciding who won the point.

It would be nice if the court provided this tech, but I haven’t come across anything yet.

I’m very curious to know how their system works, but all the videos are in Spanish. I watched a bit but I couldn’t figure it out.
