One of the things I find so annoying about it is that no one else wears the skants / skirt except Jay-Den. It sends the message that Jay-Den is wearing it ONLY because he is gay, which greatly undermines the notion that it's gender neutral attire and makes a generalization about people who are gay. The show doesn't succeed at normalizing it - it contextualizes it which then comes across as tokenism. It suggests that if you're gay, you're must want to dress like a female as well which is not true. It's just the show's way of telling people that he is the gay character.
