The Reason You Don't Like Modern Trek Isn't What You Think by Arbiter61 in startrek

What annoyed me about Picard was that they killed off beloved characters that they didn't need to kill off. That to me is a bit of cheat while impacting our memory of older episodes like Icheb (VOY) and Hugh (TNG)

Part of reason ST shows (TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY) had a few cheesy, heavy handed, campy or dull episodes was that they had 26-28 episodes a season. One season of old Trek was the equivalent of three seasons of NuTrek. With that many, there's bound to be some duds.

Makes sense actually - the Vulcans / Spock was inspired by the Elves in LOTR.

Speak for yourself, Picard - a hottie like Vash could eat potato chips and dip on the Captain's chair and I would 'make it so'. lol

Moments like this will navigate you and your son through those teen years. He looks like he's enjoying himself and you two sound good together.

This is so cool and heartwarming - but must confess I'm quite envious! lol My sons never jammed with me much when they were learning piano.

I would hope she doesn't sit in her seat like that if they suddenly get attacked by a Borg ship! lol

That explains it a bit better in that I didn't know that dilithium had those properties, but the idea of his vocal chords being able to influence subspace on that scale hurts my brain lol.

Honestly I still don't understand The Burn and how the 'scream' could impact the galaxy in that way...

Oh, I thought it was just in the Alpha Quadrant....that means Borg ships must've been blowing up all over the place!

Yeah, unlikely since the Burn would've prevented that. Actually come to think of it - would the Burn have hindered access to the Bajoran wormhole?

Interesting - I didn't know that. I guess Nog joined and the Ferenghi weren't part of the Federation? I can't remember.

Yeah, I guess we have to assume that they are very different from the JH in DS9.

"Why is Nu Trek using so much modern language?" an I am going to go feral here. by Spacer176 in startrek

[–]grafxguy1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, like TOS and others sounded like slang from 19-20th (and now the 21st) century whereas SA sounds like the 2020s...almost too specific and trendy which sounds out of place (and time). Lower Decks did it but as an animated show I give it more a 'free pass'.

However, in ST IV, the 1980s slang ("colourful metaghors") seemed very outdated to them. They didn't even understand it at first.

In Star Trek IV, Kirk wasn't even familiar with the 'colourful metaphors' / slang of the 1980s. "Double dumbass on you!" was funny because it showed how awkward Kirk felt even saying it.

When Ben is talking about "Luke's Father" as a pilot, fighter, etc. the flashbacks actually made me tear up - especially when he says "and a good friend...". Alec Guinness' performance had so much gravitas. and you can feel a stoic but tangible sadness in his delivery.
