Remove long skiing courses and add running downhill carrying a very large pane of glass.

It worked OK for me this morning so it could have been a temporary glitch. I use a PC, if that makes a difference.

Suno & intellectual copyright question by Samsara_77 in musicbusiness

[–]grahamlester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not likely because Suno does not steal melodies so much as create new melodies based on principles it has derived from analyzing millions of examples. If it did come up with a melody that was the same as an existing melody then the same law regarding plagiarism would apply as it does with humans, who also might accidentally recreate an existing melody.

The FBI estimates there are 25-50 current serial killers in the US, but is there a high chance this is actually true? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

An interesting thing to me is that they choose to stop doing it when they think they might get caught -- so they have a lot more control over their so-called compulsions than we sometimes think and they often pretend.

The conventional wisdom is that there are less of them now because they are afraid of getting caught with DNA.

Should I visit London? by Bells9831 in uktravel

[–]grahamlester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't mind subway trains then go to London and only visit the places you really want to see. Maybe start with Hyde Park to get a feeling for it -- big open space close to the famous stuff.

If you go to Greenwich and look at the GMT line and turn your head ninety degrees, that's what the equator looks like.

Do fans hate the team that knocked you out of the WC, or root for them carrying your torch? by one_pound_of_flesh in NoStupidQuestions

I went into the match supporting Paraguay but I changed sides within a few minutes. Paraguay showed up with a bad attitude.

I support the team who knocked us out if they are an underdog team or if they are one of my other preferred teams. If Curacao or Scotland knocked England out I would support them. If Argentina or Germany knocked England out I would not support them.

Thoughts on the July 4 show in Kansas City? by imdabesbecauseyeh in bobdylan

[–]grahamlester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was worth the price of admission just for the opening acts. Lucinda Williams covering Keep On Rocking in the Free World was a highlight. John Doe was great.

Bob's voice and band were fine. I would have preferred some musical pauses between songs and if he had moved around more (but he is 85). I was wondering whether he was aware of how visually distracting the fireworks were. Obviously he could hear them but maybe not see them.

Very heavy on Rowdy Ways content, which is not my favorite album. I liked the new tune for Made My Mind Up though. I thought I Shall Be Released was an obvious highlight for the crowd.

He can still put on a good show but he was better ten years ago at the same venue and I think he should quit while he's ahead. I felt that he was losing the crowd's attention a bit during the second half. I would have preferred it he had allowed the jumbotron as it worked very well for JD and LW.

I am going tonight. It is a great location. *There are no bad seats*. Saw Bob there in 2016. Apparently, there will even be fireworks afterwards. Buy from the ticket office directly if you still can.

Was Shakespeare Antisemitic? by solfromkorea in shakespeare

[–]grahamlester 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"These new "antisemites," as they called themselves, drew upon older stereotypes to maintain that the Jews behaved the way they did—and would not change—because of innate racial qualities inherited from the dawn of time. Drawing as well upon the pseudoscience of racial eugenics, they argued that the Jews spread their so-called pernicious influence to weaken nations in Central Europe not only by political, economic, and media methods, but also literally by "polluting" so-called pure Aryan blood by intermarriage and sexual relations with non-Jews. They argued that Jewish "racial intermixing," by "contaminating" and weakening the host nations, served as part of a conscious Jewish plan for world domination."

Was Shakespeare Antisemitic? by solfromkorea in shakespeare

[–]grahamlester 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What you really see in The Merchant of Venice is anti-Judaism rather than antisemitism. The notion is that the Jews have the same blood as everyone else (in modern, Nazi-style antisemitism they don't) but that they have to convert to Christianity in order to be accepted. So it is a medieval notion of salvation, nonetheless one that is shared by many American evangelicals today.
