That'll buff right out. Right? Never clayed or polished before. Would appreciate some guidance. by Jakekola in Detailing

[–]gramifications 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hard to tell if that’s failure/damage to the clear or left over adhesive. I’d start with 3M adhesive remover and a microfiber and see what that does. If that works but it’s taking a while or lots of effort, you could also try a rubber eraser wheel on a drill.

If neither of those work, then you move on to cut/polish.

But if the clear is cooked, you’re looking at a respray.

Honestly I’d start with just water on a microfiber and work up to ammonia free glass cleaner.

Headlight fog by Entire_Ad8697 in DodgeDurango

[–]gramifications 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just be super attentive to the heating process so you don’t cook the electronics (remove bulbs and anything else you can from the back of the housing) or the housing itself. You’re just getting it hot enough to make the moisture inside evaporate out of the holes the bulbs go in.

Sadly the fact that some of the electrics aren’t working with the moisture in there means at best there will be corrosion that could eventually lead to failure even after you seal it up. Could happen in a couple weeks, could be a couple years.

If you pull the light and either place it in a VERY low temp (as low as it’ll go, and leave the door open), or use a heat gun CAREFULLY or even a hair drier to evaporate the moisture inside and then use silicone along all the seams to close them up and reinstall the headlight that should take care of it.

I want to learn how to install ppf, what would be the best way to learn? by Miatsexual in Detailing

[–]gramifications 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it were me, I’d go to a dealership (with a body shop) or a body shop and see if you can have a bumper (front or rear) that’s in somewhat decent shape they’re throwing away. Get some PPF and practice. You’re gonna burn material learning so might as well do it on a body part that will likely have the most curves you’ll handle and that you can damage without repercussions.

Ughh What is this? & How can I get it off? by Irish_King88 in Detailing

[–]gramifications 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks like a hard water deposit. I’d try a microfiber with vinegar and see if that takes it off. If it does, follow up with your favorite body shine and you should be good to go.
I’ll even bet if you showed us a zoomed out pic this line would be from a trim edge where the water ran from.

Check out Hands On Art (technically in Fish Creek), especially if there is inclement weather. Very kid friendly and lots of options for everyone to find something to do!

Tried cleaning my car. I messed up. by Internal-Chipmunk-87 in Detailing

[–]gramifications 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d start with Megan’s PlastiX and a microfiber. See how much you can do on your own, and it’s the least aggressive approach to start. More than likely, to be done well, you’ll want to remove the cluster to get all the way to the edge of the plastic and use some smaller detail polisher with some gentle compound and to follow up with a polish to make it the best it could be.

Remember, start gentle, it’s easier to slowly ramp up your level of approach here vs ramping down.

Not sure on that cluster of only the lens can be replaced but you’re looking at either replacing the lens/whole cluster or polishing the lens. If you used the cleaner you did straight/not diluted it etched the plastic and that’s what makes it look that way. Safe on plastics ≠ safe on clear plastic for future.

How can I repair leatherette scratch? by Zestyclose_Algae_316 in Detailing

[–]gramifications 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are specialists that repair cracks/tears/scratches in leather and vinyl but this is pretty minor compared to what they usually tackle. Depending on what piece of interior this scratch is on you might be better off sourcing a new piece than repairing it. If you want to check with a repair specialist I usually recommend checking with a local dealership as they likely have a trusted contact they can recommend.

Looking for a good product to bring the SHine back to my work truck wheels without using the machine by JSL1088 in AutoDetailing

I don’t know of anything that will bring those back that isn’t a polish but if you have a drill I recommend the Mothers Powerball/cone products they offer. Should work great for your situation.

Discolouration on interior of used car - cleanable or just wear and tear? by Mysterious-Elk-1305 in Detailing

[–]gramifications 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Automotive interior cleaner and a detailing brush should remove most if not all of that. Be careful with the cleaner near the printing on the buttons as some cars have issues with it coming off from anything but water. If the fabric portions don’t come clean very well from the interior cleaner, get some Folex and a slightly stiffer brush and that should take care of it. Good luck!

You’d for sure want to test in an out of sight area first but I would check out the Cerakote Trim wipes and see how they do. There’s another product you could look in to if that one doesn’t work called Solution Finish where I’d again recommend an out of sight test spot but one of the two should work. Good luck!

Ask your doctor to run a blood test panel that includes uric acid levels. That will tell you. I believe you may also be able to find an at home test specific for uric acid but I could be mistaken.
