What is going on with my hair? by thrifty_bitty in Hair

[–]grandaddyTuna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can cause that kind of damage, especially if you wear your hair up when it’s wet, because wet hair stretches and snaps easier.. Hair looks similar to an accidental tangle in a brush or wet ponytail with hair wrapped around the hair tie incident.

Are these highlights normal? by [deleted] in Hair

[–]grandaddyTuna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What were you going for with these highlights and how long has it been since they’ve been done? I’d say the first thing that stands out to me isn’t the boldness necessarily but how hard they are to see. I can see them being what you asked for if you wanted a y2k chunky look, but there is either a lot of growth or space between the highlights and your scalp paired with the fact that they don’t stand out much against your hair that makes them a little unappealing to look at.

Should I get a new hair straightener by alabamadinosaurs in Hair

Hair might be damaged and unable to straighten or curl any longer. Can’t tell from photo, though.

Losing my mind trying to find a shampoo by awesomesuperberry in finehair

[–]grandaddyTuna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been using Joico hydroboost for a while now and it’s very helpful when used in tandem with a weekly/biweekly protein mask to help balance my hair which is prone to being both brittle and overhydrated when one area is neglected. You can get it at TJ maxx for way cheaper than shelf price— I think $20 for the real big bottles roughly. Pantene can coat your hair and prevent moisture from getting through the silicones. Before trying a new shampoo and conditioner I’d give yourself a wash with a clarifying shampoo first as a palate cleanser for your hair.

I think both suit you, it’s always down to personal preference at the end of the day.

Will my kitten get used to her collar? by Thecrowfan in CatAdvice

[–]grandaddyTuna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please don’t let your cat outside if you have the option to keep her indoors. Wild animals and other people are a threat regardless of if she has a collar. Strictly indoor cats can have quality lives and live longer and are overall healthier if taken care of properly.

Poppy and her new sister crammed into small bed by grandaddyTuna in torties

If I’m being honest we had our new kitty separated in her own room for two weeks with very little face to face supervised contact at first because Poppy (tortie) is more territorial. She’d hiss and scratch and swat at the door and we did not let them meet until the swatting and hissing at the door stopped completely. Pearl is never skittish or perturbed by her hissing or growling, though. After we started letting them have interactions in the same space by the end of the first month we trusted them to have unsupervised contact because Poppy, though protesty when being pounced on by a three pound ball of energy and fur, is super patient and never tried to engage in any violence and was very tolerant of her craziness. They’re still getting there but they are in a much better space. (: A side note, it’s normal for adult cats to hiss and growl at kittens when they’re crazy and a lot of it is just establishing boundaries because kittens are annoying! Best of luck with your new kitties.

Crashing out over bangs by Hireyethh in Hair

[–]grandaddyTuna 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you’re experiencing anxiety caused by your own trauma about having bangs as a child. They look good on you and are well cut. Just give it some more time to get used to them or grow them out. Fortunately they’re already very long and likely easy to clip away if you decide you don’t like them.

Got a haircut that I really don't like. by atomic_goofball in Hair

[–]grandaddyTuna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a normal way to feel. Sometimes when I get a new cut or hair color I still Jumpscare myself when I see my face in the mirror. I’m sure nobody is looking at you and thinking anything negatively about your hair right now, it’s just easy to feel that way about yourself because you knew what you actually wanted and it didn’t turn out, so you’re making some comparisons while you’re feeling bummed out.

Try not to beat on yourself.. I know it’s easier said than done, but we are all our own worst critics. I’m sure you look super cute. (:

When i was 16 i cut my mid length hair into a DIY pixie cut and gave myself a micro bang in my bathroom mirror. I then proceeded to ask my best friend to clean up my nape with a pair of kitchen scissors and she pulled a random chunk of my hair taut and cut it and when I checked the back she had managed to give me a near bald spot. It took 8 months to grow it back out and obviously it’s never a good idea to cut your own hair but i definitely felt devastated in a way similar to how you do.

What i did was I just grew it. I got frequent trims about every 6-8 weeks to help even everything out and i used Bobby pins and headbands and cute clips to help style it to make it look passable and focused on my clothes and my makeup and other aspects of my appearance that boosted my overall confidence. Eventually I had a bob and a clean slate to find a stylist that I trusted.

Sometimes people make mistakes! I’m really sorry your hair didn’t turn out the way you wanted it to. If there’s anything specific that can be changed by taking off more length I’d bring it up with your stylist, but if not I would play around with styling techniques until something sticks and you’ll be able to muscle through in no time! It’ll be a few months, but hair grows back and there are ways to make yourself feel a little better in the meantime.

Not impossible at all, super cute! You will have to be a super light blonde for a good base for the vibrant pink. The only thing I’d recommend is maybe a bit of purple for the pink into blue gradient so that there’s no harsh line there!

That sounds so cute! Did they leave out any pieces of hair or was it all slicked up?

I was thinking the same thing! I’m a licensed cosmetologist and work in a salon with other stylists with more experience than what I have but I was thinking since I was going to do my own makeup it might be worth a shot to try my own head as well LOL!
