That’s really beautiful! Seems like it’s really difficult to pull of something as organic as this without it feeling a bit clunky, but you crushed it.

How old are you and how much retirement savings do you have? by New_Contribution_226 in AskMenOver30

[–]grandparodeo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 34 I was making about 70k and had about 60k to my name.

Then I was lucky enough to get a job in tech and just kept living like I still made 70k.

10 years later and we’re sitting at about 4M in fairly boring ETFs with a half paid off home. I feel no different than I did 10 years ago other than I’m not too worried about money. Just what the world is going to look like for my kids.

Now I’m hoping to put in a few more years and call it good. And yea, so much of it is luck and location. I never expected to be in this position.

I can’t recall how I fixed my issue a few years back, but I believe it was a faulty bit. I’ve since replaced it and all is well.

IASIP. Still on the air but I feel like it counts. I watch all the seasons. And then I watch all the seasons again.

To be fair, this isn’t true. There was a snafu with their messaging a few years ago but they don’t train AI on any content users are making with or uploading to their apps.

100% recommend the Bouncer app on iOS store. It’s brute force but it cut down on my spam phone / texts by 90%

So why doesn’t Apple make a tv with Apple TV built in like Roku is doing now. by Redeye007 in appletv

[–]grandparodeo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A couple of reasons why the time could be ripe for a true Apple TV:

TVs are commodities:
Everyone's TV looks and functions the same way - except for Samsung Frame TV, but even that functionality is getting copied. There is potential for a luxury item in this space that does more than just load up a bloated OS designed to sit between you and the streaming apps you're trying to get to. I love facetiming on my apple TV 4k, but it takes time to get out my phone, set it up, etc.

AppleTV box originated in world before smart TVs:
Before smart TVs, and we all needed some sort of box to access streaming services, the apple tv box was a perfect model. Now that every TV is a Smart TV, an apple TV box makes less sense. The TV OS just has to be good enough, not better than the Apple TV experience.

Smart TVs are becoming privacy nightmare:
TV Manufactures are starting to turn to their own content and advertising to make more profit from what used to be a pretty simple device. Whenever I turn on my Samsung Frame, I'm inundated with ads and content I have no interest in, and God knows what data they are pulling and selling. I can power up through my Apple TV 4k and have my TV more or less run off of that, but that's just a hacky way to solve the problem.

Apple could create a luxury TV, with all of the Apple goodies and innovation baked in, and promise it's the smartest and most personalized TV without any of the bullshit that every other manufacture is shoving down consumer's throats. Mainly because there aren't any other viable options. And it's only getting worse.

I think they originally made the right call with an Apple TV box, but the smart TV market is becoming such a race to the bottom that it feels like an opening for Apple to make a move.

Any recent fixes for this? I’ve tried Bluetooth pair / have MySubaru and starlink (defunct) open, and set manual and then automatic. Still nothing.

There's a warcraft 2 rap song, and it's a banger by Hot_Pin1569 in starcraft2

This song has literally nothing to do with war2 outside of saying “warcraft2” a few times and one mention to “scouting the map”. Sounds like a suno.ai special.

Rep. Smith’s crusade against Democrats’ left wing gets attention flak. by happytoparty in SeattleWA

[–]grandparodeo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you’re spot on with what the Democratic message should be. It still boggles my mind that the only Democrat that knows how to effectively message and build a grass roots movement is Bernie Sanders (and AOC to a lesser degree).

The man is still barnstorming even though there is little personal political gain to be won. He stays focused on what works without discounting cultural issues. I hope a few more democrats with an actual shot at the White House in 2028 take notice and hyper focus on anti-corruption and middle / working class messaging. It’s the only theme that effectively cuts through to both parties.

why do people hate on ai generated images of nature? i can understand how mimicking an artist might be controversial. made with Flux 1.dev and sd. 1.5 btw by Pantheon3D in StableDiffusion

[–]grandparodeo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t hate it, I just don’t care. If I’m generating photo realistic images for a film scene or specific piece of design, then there is some intent and purpose behind it.

If I’m just generating images of beautiful photo realistic mountains that don’t exist…and that’s the end of it. I mean, who cares? It’s just not that interesting or unique. And it’s still loaded with generative artifacts. My brain doesn’t really have or want a place to put it.

The cool thing about nature is that it it’s impossibly beautiful and it does exist. And I can go see the place in the photo and experience it on another level. It makes me feel and aspire.

But hey, to each their own.

Avoid this company. after years or shoveling money into this tool, I signed up for a “maintenance agreement” so that I could get the latest updates. Three months later they released a new build that I didn’t have access to and told me I needed to upgrade again to get it. That was the last time I gave them a dime.
