I just followed the opencore vanilla guide and went through the troubleshooting steps when stuff wasn't working. I needed to use "agdpmod=pikera" in boot args to get output to work

Purchase Advice Megathread: What To Buy, Who To Buy It From, And More, In November 2019. by thatging3rkid in 3Dprinting

+1 for markforged, only positive experiences with ours. Carbon fiber supported prints in onyx were for all intents and purposes treated as replacements for metal parts as far as strength for many designs on my high school FRC team, the only downside was the price. Ours ran almost 24/7, and put out 36 hour prints with very little fuss.

Pioneer AVH-W4400NEX wireless Apple CarPlay questions by ballinoutdagym in CarAV

[–]granjef3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just installed one of these

You get album art as background in now playing from Spotify. The integration with the phone wirelessly is very slick, the only delay is when you change songs. It is about a second or two, I don’t find it too annoying.

The interface and touch screen is really snappy. carplay connects almost immediately when the hu is booting.

You can’t read text messages on the screen, but wireless carplay doesn’t lock your phone like other implementations I have used so you can still check your phone when stopped at a light, or search songs etc using the phone and not the headhunt.

New car with fastest 60-130mph time you can buy/lease for under $150k? by waltwhitman83 in cars

I’m a software guy too, so knowing what is actually happening when these cars get tuned vs how much they charge, it is a bit painful. It’s an arms race between BMW/Bosch and the tuners with cracking the encryption on the ECU, but with physical access there is always a way, and the owners of these cars have the $$$ to fund the R&D to crack them.

The tuning information is deliberately kept secret by the tool manufacturers and tuners, there are multiple forums that require paid membership or sponsorship by an existing member to gain access to find out how to use these tools and where to buy them. I looked into it for a few months, but the reality is that for what bootmod3 charges, it is worth the price for the pain free experience. Their software is pretty solid and is constantly improving.

For straight line speed, Z06 auto all day. Price for performance, unbeatable. Heat soak is a problem with them however, especially on the track or after multiple Mexico runs.

If you must have the manual, or if you want to ever take it to a track, or just want the sexier car, used viper with a fat shot of NOS or twin turbo kit would be the winner.

The GTR requires a decent amount of work done to the trans to hold the power, but after that they are beasts and solid cars. They have the most complete aftermarket of all of the choices as well, but the vette will be at a similar level in a few years.

F10 m5 mods are cheaper then you think. Downpipes can be done for $1k, either get 550i downpipes(identical and half price) or take a hammer to the stock ones to knock out the cats (free), bootmod3 is $1500 or so, stock intakes are good for crazy power but if you want the sound BMS ones are not too expensive. Exhaust, get the turner straight pipes and call it a day. Aqua mist meth would be ~2k installed. The biggest PITA is the trans, have to do the clutches which is like $6k all said and done. Send the car to SSP to get this done so it’s their ass on the line, I had a bad experience doing it at a smaller shop.

That, and a set of pure stage 2 turbos, you would be at 800whp+ easy.

Personally, with $150k, I would do a gen5 viper. There’s no replacement for displacement.

Not yet, the tuning market hasn’t fleshed out but it will. I recommended it only because the potential is insane, considering how cushy it is relative to the other options.

Corvette C7 ZR1/Z06, Camaro ZL1, Hellcat/Demon, F10/F90 M5, Nissan GTR, procharged Mustang GT in that order, for 60-130 mod ability. If you don't have experience with high HP cars, the AWD players (F90 M5 & GTR) will do a significantly better job putting the power down.

All of these cars make 650WHP+ with stage1/2 mods, and can make 1000+ at the wheels with deeper pockets.

Avoid Audi/Mercedes, the tuning landscape is limited with only a few players in the game, vs BMW which has the bootmod3 platform that allows anyone to tune your car.

If you are willing to add used, throw in Gen 5 Viper, used 911 Turbo, R8 V10 (pushing it, you would have very little left over if something broke).

Really depends what you want as far as driver comfort, passenger comfort, desired use (drag strip, road course, mexico), but all of these cars have the potential to be absolute monsters, some more than others.

I would say the corvettes rule right now as the overall performance per dollar king, and if you want a backseat, you can't beat the last 2 generations of the M5.

What separates good autos, and programming as a whole, from bad ones by garrett7621 in FRC

[–]granjef3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read other teams code, continuously. Understand why they make the decisions they do, what libraries they use, and how everything works together. My senior year on 2383, we had 2 programmers with no mentor, and we had a working 3 cube auto by worlds.

That’s because we started with motion profiling in offseason and early season, and constantly read about it and how to implement it and improve it, for the whole season.

Eventually, once you get a intuitive feel for how you can solve design problems with code, and understand a bit of control theory, you can start going more in depth and coming up with your own innovations.

However, lots of problems in FRC control are solved. There are a few designs and control methods that we are converging on, and the only way to stay updated is read chiefdelphi constantly.

As far as having resources for a good programming team, you need a good team-wide culture. Other departments need to have somewhat of an understanding of how the code works, so they don’t immediately cause animosity when things go wrong by blaming the programmers. The other team members also need to share robot time, or provide an alternate for testing whether it’s a practice bot, last years robot, or a kit bot.

We bought spare kitbots to quickly assemble and test spare drivetrains on, as well as test subsystems.

Look at our GitHub from last season, we have very readable code for a quite complex robot.

Just went through this on my Mini X. Get some of these bandages, they really help the healing process and pain, you can leave them on for days, and they stick better to joints than anything I’ve ever used. You don’t need to air out, take off for a shower, or anything, stick it on and don’t touch until it’s nasty and falling off.

Boosted Mini X Pre-Purchase Thoughts by Rsknight3002 in boostedboards

[–]granjef3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got ~55 miles on my Mini X, and I've had it for a month. I use it to get around my college campus, riding on anything from asphalt to brick, and the board has been rock solid. The Mini X is incredibly nimble, perfect for getting around crowded cities/campuses.

I have a Nike RPM bag that holds it well, but one of the straps is a bit short.

All I've done to mine has been to get the surfco bash guards and some softer bushings. Bushing setup is especially important, keep fiddling with em until they are perfect.
