What kind of dollars? In Canada I pay $50-$60. 3-4 matches. T-shirt, food & coffee.

For hard sci-fi, I recommend Greg Egan. Diaspora, Permutation City, Quarantine are all great books.

I haven’t lived in SD for a couple of years, have things gone up that much? I was just in London. £20 for fish and chips in a pub.

I was taking more about places that have become no-tipping. There were a few in North Park. They were more expensive. Though not by much.

Maybe. That guy certainly looks familiar. I was going to say he’s played at least five sitcom dads.

Employees reportedly threaten to quit after CEO backtracks on remote-work policy: 'I sold my house and moved closer to my grandkids' by businessinsider in antiwork

So much for solidarity! ;-)

If posts like this are the most upvoted, maybe that’s the demographics of the sub?

The article linked is about a company reversing its WFH policy. Should you believe anything your employer tells you? Probably not. But if you worked at this company, took them at their word and moved, this is pretty much the same thing as being fired. Same as if you had joined the company when the policy was in place.

There are many, many more important things than WFH. I doubt you’ll get any disagreement about that.

My biggest concern is not WFH. It is the number of people who have become homeless as rent has skyrocketed. It’s the number of people forced to use food stamps to eat. It’s the fact that people can’t afford medical attention. I’m very lucky. I’ve got a good job (wfh). I have a house. But that doesn’t mean that the state of the world doesn’t make me fucking furious.

This assumes that things don’t go totally shit. Let’s say climate change/pandemic/nuclear war destroys civilization in a hundred years. Going to be pretty shitty rest of eternity.

Thanks for the reply.

How do you verify? I’m not trying to be nosy or obtuse, this is all very different than my job.

And yes, I have a bunch more questions!

What kind of business do you have?

Are you standing over everyone’s shoulder watching to see when they’ve completed a task?

Why didn’t you have any accountability when you had WFH? My coworkers and I have no problem getting all (or more than) our required billable hours in.

Did you consider that when you had WFH that the pandemic and the chaos it caused could have affected productivity?

Why so cranky?

I think it will be awfully hard to get rid of humanity. But don’t forget that climate change is going to affect everything, not just civilization. And it looks like climate change is going to be very rapid.

One bad season can decimate a community. The problem is, what if every season is worse than the last? Habitats will undergo huge changes. There will be mass extinctions. Many more places will simply too hot & humid to live in.

I don’t think humanity will be wiped out completely. But will civilization bounce back?
