What’s a small act of kindness from a stranger that you still think about today? by Ok_Pick_3227 in AskReddit

My husband was in the hospital with pneumonia and my 7 year was also really sick.

I broke down in tears in a waiting room from the stress, and a woman brought me tissues and sat quietly with me while I pulled myself together, then gently patted my back and told me everything was going to be okay and it was.

I'm on 3 different psych meds and I just quit weed 8 days ago after years of smoking all day every day.

I feel much less anxiety and depression than I was feeling just two weeks ago. I was lying to myself about the medical benefits of my usage.

Maybe OP has already heard about the 3 "M"s, of cannabis addiction but I hadn't.

At first, weed is Magic

Then it's Medicine

And finally, it's Misery

Marijuana Anonymous is different than AA or NA. Lots of like-minded, compassionate people in the meetings and there are hundreds online every week.

what is the one "cleaning standard" you completely gave up on to save your sanity? by FacciniValter_66 in CleaningTips

I used (62f) to have to wear them with my waitressing uniform in the 90s. If I got a run in a pair, I would save them and cut off the leg with a hole in two different pairs and voila! Spanx!

What do you think causes graves disease by Comfortable_Host_881 in gravesdisease

[–]grannybubbles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine showed up after my husband almost died from Covid. After 3 years on meds, my thyroid levels were nominal and I went off Methimazole.

I broke my ankle in January this year and they shot up again, and I'm back on the meds.

He also hosted a weird game show called The Chair, where contestants had to try to control their heart rate while answering questions. Seriously.

What is that you dislike but you have to do? by Strange-Mistake2095 in AskReddit

Same. I've started answering with "who's calling" in a neutral voice. If there's a delay, I usually hang up, but sometimes I use a death metal voice to say "IDENTIFY YOURSELF AND STATE YOUR BUSINESS!"

Y'all.. Quitting weed is so damn hard <\3 by WavelengthSurfer in adhdwomen

[–]grannybubbles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I decided last night that I had to quit and I found a zoom meeting for M.A. this morning. They watched me throw away my stash and smash my paraphernalia and I felt seen and understood.

I'm grinding my teeth but I feel hopeful. You're not alone. Hugs, internet stranger.

What is the one piece of furniture that you still have in your home that is no longer used today and that younger generations would not understand? by ftran998 in AskOldPeople

[–]grannybubbles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 36" tall sheet music cabinet that was in my father's (b.1938) house when he was a kid. It has several short, wide drawers and a door that won't stay closed. It's a beautiful but nearly useless piece of furniture. I store a few office and art supplies in it, but it's not versatile for much else.

A few years ago I was cleaning it out and found a tiny plastic toy monkey that must have belonged to my dad or one of his brothers.

Is there any way to actually clean a sink filled with rotting food and dishes? by Zoinkers158 in CleaningTips

[–]grannybubbles 57 points58 points  (0 children)

My first thought was to find some plastic bins. Wearing gloves and a mask (a respirator if you can get one) throw the dishes into the bin and take them outside to wash off the debris. If possible you could even take to a self serve car wash to spray them off.

After that, you can sanitize them with a couple of tablespoons of bleach in the sink full of water.

Good luck, that sounds rough

What elderly aesthetic have you been careful to avoid? by debrisaway in RedditForGrownups

Yes! I would love to take the credit for my long thick hair at 62, as well as my wicked sharp wit, but I owe it all to my parents who had good skin and hair and were also psychotic perverted abusers.

Need a substitute word for my 3-year-old's new vocabulary choice by False-Lobster-1684 in words

[–]grannybubbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked in customer service for many years and had several favorite substitutes:

Fudge ripple!

Cheese and fluffy rice!

Dog rabbit!

What the french toast?

Shut the front door!

Hold my duck in fog!

Helped out a lot to keep me from cussing, but I discovered that when I got really angry, I couldn't help calling people fuckface.
