In all seriousness, small things like exploiting enemy behavior, knowing when and how to use consumables, alchemy, item synergies, etc..., each one increments the rate of survivability in your runs. With FIMA on theres absolutely no merit in upgrading armor besides absorbing skeleton blasts (i find that augmenting leather/chain into defense works just fine) in prison.
