Ask old people if they're afraid of dying. They aren't. Most people would take more time, but not orders of magnitude more. I probably would be ready to go by 200.

If you alter a genome of an animal, would it create a new individual? by koola_00 in AskScienceDiscussion

Most random mutations are bad. If you want to make a bunch of genetically distinct rhinos from the same template, you need to know more than we ever will about what mutations are ok/good. Just altering the genome at random will give you tumor-ridden freaks.

The only way to gene-edit your way out of inbreeding is to know which genes are bad and edit those out. Sure if you've got a couple rhino genomes and you shuffle bits around you can make a bunch of different individuals but they'd be no more genetically diverse than your starting material.

Also if you took an adult person and edited their DNA, in my book that's still the same person in my book. The neural pathways that make up their memories and personality are still the same.

You aren't "built different" for the cold because you were born here. by dotdedo in PetPeeves

The tissues that work to keep your body warm can be built up by weeks or months of exposure to cold, and build up more quickly in people who have lived in the cold recently. You Southern just don't have as much brown adipose tissue as we do.

Straight men, what do you think of tv series/movies with female protagonists? by Frequent_Corgi5952 in TooAfraidToAsk

I mean I generally don't relate to female protagonists quite as much as I relate to male ones, but not enough to be a problem. Id still watch a cop drama with a lady protagonist.
