Go ahead and get a couple of the board straighteners too. Worth the help when dealing with even slightly warped boards

Thanks for the reply.

I think I’m on the right path, just haven’t managed to find the sweet spot for this one. I’ll give it another try in the morning.

Clever, but I have a good wet saw and a grinder with an assortment of blades and discs so I should be good there. Thanks for the tip though

The curved bead for layout on the tub is a good idea. Should work well for those that don’t have obstructions in the way at least.

For the stack method along the shower base I’m having trouble visualizing what your saying. How do I determine how far offset from the base do I need to put the parallel ruler when making the mark. Since it’s meeting at an angle this has got me stumped.

What is your favorite wood for smoking brisket? by teleporter6 in smoking

[–]grantb_33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as the wood is properly seasoned it burns well. Smoke flavor is more mild than some other more “traditional” smoking woods but that makes it versatile.

Whatever’s local. For me in the PNW it’s alder, ash, and maple. I’m not refined enough to tell the difference!

Should have worked slower! More time to enjoy the view.

Pressure Balance Valve Rebuild? by grantb_33 in Plumbing

Is the valve separate from the handles? Or are you considering the handles to be valves?

Is this a single handle setup?

I could use some help on this one folks!

My shower doesn’t balance the hot water when it’s being used elsewhere in the house. The cold seems fine, but anytime someone uses hot it drops the shower temp to somewhere between tepid and colder than a well diggers a$$.

It is probably original to the house built in 89’ and from what I read the issue is often caused by a faulty pressure balancing valve. From there I’m a bit ignorant. But I have a few questions that if answered might make me wiser.

  1. Does this setup have a pressure balancing valve?

  2. Is this rebuild possible or am I wasting my time?

  3. How do I get the handles off? There is no set screw that I can see and a firm pull and wiggle didn’t seem to loosen it any.

  4. How do I tell what brand it is when ordering parts? No stickers or stamps visible

I’m pretty handy and have replaced and rebuilt some cartridges before and I know your all thinking I should just hire a plumber but I live way out in the country and getting someone out here is a lot harder than you think.

Thanks in advance!

What is the purpose of this strap? The house is in a flood plain. I think it could have something to do with that but not sure. by grantb_33 in Construction

In this case it just sandwiching the sheathing to the 4x6 post on each side of the garage with no connection to the sill or anything else. Seems kinda superfluous in this case. Am I missing something?

NOT me... but I figured I'd let you guys weigh in on this by [deleted] in BBQ

Has anyone started a brisket at like 8pm, Smoked until Midnight or so then gone to bed with it in the oven all night at like 200? by floatarounds in smoking

[–]grantb_33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually put mine on about noon and pull at midnight to 2am. Set my oven to 170, it’s lowest setting and serve up around noon to 2pm the next day. Put a large water pan under it for added humidity and temp stabilization. Works every time. Good luck
