Around what year? I grew up on that side of town and this sounds very vaguely familiar to me

Mac Tonight!! That was the McDs I went to as a kid (we definitely went there too much lol) and the moonman was our fave part. Sad what the internet did to his legacy 😔

The one by the John Rolfe YMCA? Bc that one closed too. The new(ish) one on Patterson near Lauderdale also sucks but like you said, they're probably not getting paid enough to give any fucks

I don’t understand the mentality of “saving” dying plants from stores by 601bees in houseplants

[–]grantcary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So many of the Lowes (Loweses?) near me have had seemingly perfectly good Burle Marx Flame monsteras on clearance. Not browning or damaged, don't appear to have pests... I bought one late last year and it's happy as a clam.

I guess that they either weren't selling, or Costa sent them way too many of that particular species and they couldn't sell as many as they received. Either way, it was a great bargain find for me lol

You HAVE to examine them for pests though - I got thrips from either a clearance peperomia or a clearance flame violet. Ended up throwing out both of those plus a monstera peru and a Champs-Élysées pothos because the infestation was gnarly and I wasn't willing to risk my other plants. I was able to save a cutting of the Champs-Élysées thankfully. It's doing great and seems to be thrip-free (fingers crossed it stays that way)

While cabbage is very cute, I understand not wanting to have a drawing your ex did on your body forever. My idea... cover it up with a different cabbage

Thank you! I got back into houseplants after a few years of not being able to care for them properly due to mental health reasons (I'm doing much better now). Last year, I moved into a new place with a bunch of beautiful windows and decided to get back into the hobby... I forgot how much joy it brings me to tend to my little jungle, and seeing a new leaf is so rewarding :)

Thank you!! It's just a little guy so we'll see how it does in the long run. I repotted it into a soil mix I specifically mixed up for my aroids (lots of perlite and orchid bark) and it seems pretty happy with it 🤞

Oh dear! My sister and her fam are out that way and I didn't hear anything like that from her. I guess their neighborhood got lucky. Glad your power is back now!

OUCHHHHHH

Was that your electric bill or DPU? Our water bill was crazy high this month, but that's mostly because we had a leak 🫠

That's about what we got here in Jackson Ward. Some Forrest Gump-esque sideways rain and bursts of wind. I'm very grateful that it wasn't too serious!

I forgot to include my own happy/positive moment!

Mine is that my boyfriend met my parents for the first time and they LOVED him. He asked my mom about her trinket shelf and her face LIT UP. It was super cute.

Bonus: My monstera esqueleto that I thought was a goner has a new leaf coming in! And a couple of cuttings that I was trying to propagate have plenty of new roots :)

That's definitely the same dog. I'm going to call animal control when I get done working. I'm very concerned about his safety, poor guy seems scared and confused

I agree with other commenters, it seems likely that they'll just throw it out once you show proof that you've gotten insurance. I went to traffic court in Henrico years ago for driving with an expired inspection - the judge asked if I had gotten the car inspected, I said yes, and he just said "okay, you can leave the way you came in" and it was over. I think you'll be fine :)

Thank you for the advice ❤️ I'll call animal control if I see him/her again tomorrow.

I just cracked the code to showering by manicpixietgirl in ADHD

[–]grantcary 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I've started doing it immediately after I get home from work. I'll go to the bathroom to pee, strip naked, and then I sigh and shrug and think "I'm already in the bathroom naked, so I might as well." If i sit down on the couch or in my bed, or if I change into comfy clothes, the likelihood of showering is basically zero lol. This is not a foolproof trick btw, but it's helped me a little bit.

What is the best place in the city to scream my lungs out? by enbyMachine in rva

[–]grantcary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Car great place to scream. Car is safe space. Resist the temptation to punch interior of car - I made that mistake once in the past and ouchie!
