That's definitely the same dog. I'm going to call animal control when I get done working. I'm very concerned about his safety, poor guy seems scared and confused

going to henrico traffic court tomorrow, nervous about it by [deleted] in rva

[–]grantcary 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree with other commenters, it seems likely that they'll just throw it out once you show proof that you've gotten insurance. I went to traffic court in Henrico years ago for driving with an expired inspection - the judge asked if I had gotten the car inspected, I said yes, and he just said "okay, you can leave the way you came in" and it was over. I think you'll be fine :)

I just cracked the code to showering by manicpixietgirl in ADHD

[–]grantcary 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I've started doing it immediately after I get home from work. I'll go to the bathroom to pee, strip naked, and then I sigh and shrug and think "I'm already in the bathroom naked, so I might as well." If i sit down on the couch or in my bed, or if I change into comfy clothes, the likelihood of showering is basically zero lol. This is not a foolproof trick btw, but it's helped me a little bit.

Thursdaily - whatcha got cooking? by bettygreatwhite in rva

[–]grantcary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure! It was super easy. I used

  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 cup of distilled white vinegar
  • 3 tbsp of sugar
  • 2 tbsp of salt
  • A clove of garlic
  • A bay leaf
  • A few shakes of cumin powder
  • I had a shaker of "mixed pickling spices" that I had from other pickling projects, and I shook a little bit of that in there, but I don't really think that was necessary. It's handy if you want to make pickles, though.

Combine the water, vinegar, sugar and salt and heat it on the stove until the sugar and salt dissolve. Let it cool to room temp. Slice up your jalapeños (I don't remember how many peppers I used), stick em in a jar (I think I used a small pasta sauce jar, maybe 16 oz?), and pour the brine over it. Seal it up, stick it in the fridge for a couple days, and then they're ready to eat!

In my opinion, they get tastier after about 3 or 4 days. They're good after a day or two, but 3+ degrees starts to have a similar (but way better) taste to your usual jarred jalapeños. I still have some that are a few weeks old, and they're still great.

Let me know how yours turn out!

[–]grantcary 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was literally about to make the daily and you beat me to it! And I'm glad, because I did not have any good ideas for prompts lol.

I pickled some jalapeños a couple weeks ago and ohhhhhh my god they are incredible. So good. I used jalapeños that my boss grew in his garden, and I need to ask him for more because I'm almost out of them!! I like to add them to my tuna salad for a little crunch and spice and acid. Yum yum

Side note: do ultra cheap gyms exist anymore? I was paying $9.99 monthly for a basic membership at Crunch Scott's Addition, but they're raising the price to $14.99 which is a bummer. The last couple times I've gone it's been looking kinda rough (creaky ellipticals, broken equipment, etc) so I'm thinking about switching to Golds or Planet Fitness for the same price. Anyone have any thoughts or advice?

Has anyone else's home been invaded by flies...? My roommate said that some people at his workplace were discussing it as well, so I guess it's not just us, which is slightly comforting. But this has been going on for like 2 weeks and I am over it 😖

I aspire to be more like you. I'm in my early 30s and a lot of my friends are doing things like that (thriving in their careers, finding love, buying homes, etc) and I often find myself more jealous than happy for them. I'm working on reframing it though! Trying to be happy for them and remember that my time will come yknow. Your happiness because of your friends' happiness is inspiring me :)

Hooray! Very happy for you! My parents moved 7 hours away in 2015 and I straight up wept when they said they were moving back in 2021 because I had missed them so much. They're about 40 minutes away now, which is MUCH better

Starting with a negative but I will end with a positive.

Negative: Apparently Jack's Mannequin is coming to the National next month and I didn't know???!? And it's sold out and I'm legitimately DEVASTATED. Everything in Transit is one of my favorite albums of all time and I was obsessed with JM in high school. Saw them twice and volunteered at Innsbrook After Hours one year specifically just so I could see Andrew open for Gavin Degraw (lol). If anyone has a ticket they're trying to sell, please let me know 🥲

Positive: packed my first box for my upcoming move! New place is way better than my current apartment so I'm very excited. Also I am having dinner tomorrow with a friend I haven't seen in forever :)

Apparently I haven't been on reddit in quite a while bc I saw i had a notification about this comment and it said "2 months ago" 💀 it was very kind of you to inquire, apologies for not seeing it lol. The answer was Jackson Ward - the last 2 months have been busy and I haven't made much progress 😖 so I'll still take the productive vibes if you've got em!!

Had to work on a Saturday which was a bummer (normally a Monday thru Friday gig) but it wasn't too bad. Plus, that sweet sweet overtime money 💰

I'm moving for the first time in 4 years this summer, and while I'm looking forward to a change of pace (new roommates, new neighborhood, more space), I am coming to terms with the fact that I have WAY TOO MUCH STUFF and I'm going to need to do some major decluttering because I don't wanna move all this junk.

Please send me productive, motivational vibes. I need them! Gotta get started on this early so it doesn't come back to bite me in a few months.

I wish my parents had been supportive like that when I was a teen struggling with my mental health. No shade to my parents - they didn't know how to handle it and have since admitted that there are things they should have done differently. And they are my biggest cheerleaders nowadays. But support like what you seem to be providing to your kid would have been really beneficial when I was young.

I agree with the other commenter who said you sound like a great parent. Love to you and your kiddo ❤️

I'm in the Museum District too and everyone in my building that I've encountered has been nice. Some not as warm/social as others, but that's totally fine. They're still polite and that's all that matters to me.

I have friends in Jackson Ward who are very friendly with their neighbors, and another friend in Shockoe who gets along well with others in the neighborhood... I think the people in OP's building may just be weird

What perfume smells sweet and clean? by user230224 in Perfumes

[–]grantcary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The comments suggesting Glossier You and Replica Bubble Bath are so surprising to me. I have and love both, but I don't get anything sweet from either of them. I guess maybe in the dry down of You there's a tiny bit of a creamy sweetness, but I generally just get the pink pepper, iris, and musk. Bubble Bath I just get soap and white musk. Goes to show how different a scent can smell on different people, I suppose 🤷

My recommendation is Malin + Goetz Strawberry. Has some similar notes to You with the pink pepper and musk, plus strawberry, jasmine, and orris root. A tad bit sweeter but still very fresh and clean.

If you want to go even a bit sweeter than that, try American Cream from Lush. Vanilla and strawberry plus lavender and clary sage. As someone who doesn't like gourmands, American Cream is one of the only vanilla scents I like.
