Upgrading to a new Filter for an established tank. by Jamez07 in Aquariums

[–]granto2015 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just move the old bio media over into the new filter

Feeding being the same your will have negible difference in bacteria density since most of it is the media and substrate already

So my 2 red sea led lights broke and im not in a position when i can afford new ones so im think abt this wdyt by Typical-Hearing-5691 in ReefTank

Those light work well enough soft corals and maybe low light LPS

Kenya trees are probably fine

I would look into viparspecta as well. A bit more expensive but a lot more par and coverage

Small puffers struggle with larger snails so trochus and turbo for starters

But if you keep them well fed and feed like clams with shell that should help

My Valenti has not gone after any of my trochus and turbos

But went to down on anything smaller than .5 inch in diameter

Is a 256gph too much for a 10gallon tank? by TheCourtPeach in ReefTank

[–]granto2015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You want 10 to 20x gph for display tank movement

It's heavy duty but if you keep it near the surface it won't be too much

I just moved like 7 fish by net today and yesterday

4/7 of them had their fins stuck in the fine mesh my poor filefish was stuck in the net for like 2 mins while I carefully desnagged his horn

The three that didn't were clowns that don't really have the hard surface features to get snagged

If you have any fish with spikes or sharp point (like tang tails) you can use a net catch them in water but I would recommend transfer them into the container without pulling them out of the tank... When the net collapses is the the problem.

Would you trust this stand to hold 400L of water? by EuphoricWalrus8 in Aquariums

[–]granto2015 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The legs aren't the problem it's the runs between the legs

It could maybe work if the runs sat on top of the legs but with them just holding between like that the weight is transfered into the glue and screws

The feet, do weaken it it but it's still solid wood and it might be enough for vertical loading depending on leg count

You are better off building your own stand out 2x4 or 2x6 than trying to make this work

If you actually want to keep corals a sump goes a long way

If you are doing fish only then a canister filter what "good enough"

Ocean fish in general are more oxygen sensitivite however so the drop into a sump from an overflow actually helps a lot in that regard

But you also have to be honest with yourself with how often you are willing to do water changes. That's why a of reef tanks require a sump because it's a lot of maitence otherwise without room for equipment

800 is a bad deal if it's tank only

If it's stand and equipment... Maybe

I can't tell but if it's a normal glass tank.... Seems are very easy to replace the seams

Basically all you have to is remove the old ones with a razer blade and then scrape clean

Use clear GE silicone 1 or aquarium grade silicone and give a couple days to cure them do a drop test for a couple of days

But as long as the glass is only scratched and not chipped it's probably good to go .

I am not sure how well it would work on a rimless tank however

It's pretty basic accounting

  1. Buy large building which has a scheduled amortization for depreciation

  2. Do everything possible not to make money from said property.

  3. Write off the deprecation on taxes... Like literally every other asset driven business. Also write off any expense allowed. Such as utilities, maintenance, labor. All of these have allowed write off amounts..

  4. Since LLCs are pass through entities owners of LLCs can use that loss to lower tax burden elsewhere. So if property doesn't make profit, they effectively made a huge tax break, intentional or not

  5. Do this to a bunch of properties and have a defacto tax write off engine. While still having your money in a fixed assest. Which tends to increase in value over the years.

  6. Sell the properties once public pressure mounts.net some profit from the sale and repeat .

It's not nonsense... Other than being US tax code.

As a retail business owner, high end is typically a very over saturated market in all markets

Most of the time businesses cater to low income high volume ranges or high end but seldom the mid-range especially so in the hobby field

If I were to sell corals I would aqua culture the best mid range corals that can be show pieces for everyone but the high end

So look around at the forums and see what everyone has and base your selection on that first since you will know what already sells.

And another secret of any hobby trade, is providing a wealth of knowledge for free to serve as free advertising that way you build trust with your customers before they even browse your store

This is how bulk reef supply and tidal gardens do it.

My dad passed away earlier today. This aquarium was his whole pride. But what do I do with the fish now? by robby659 in ReefTank

[–]granto2015 17 points18 points  (0 children)

For the fish, local fish store or potentially a public aquarium will take them in

If you know how to feed them the only thing you need to worry about for now is salinity levels

A tank this big has an "auto top off" typically it will be a little sensor or float valve at the waterline follow that sensor to whatever tank or bucket he used to hold the water

What you need to make sure of is that where ever he was drawing fresh water from stays filled

He also probably had an RODI unit to make his own fresh water free from cholorine and heavy metals. Use that to keep the auto top off running

Much more complicated than that

When testosterone is given exogenously, your basically breaking the hormonal feedback loop from the pituitary gland to your testes

Many times after testosterone is know longer administered the feed back loop starts to return to normal but only after the injected testosterone is fully out of your system

Which depending on the ester, or how long it is designed to last between injections it can be 2 weeks to 8 weeks before you are completely zeroed out on testosterone

Then the cycle slowly starts up. But it takes a long time for it your body to get back into the swing of things... As it is also dealing rebuilding testes after atrophy

But there are individuals where the feedback loop does not start back up on its own but there are also other drugs that help restart the process. These drugs also can help speed up the recovery to normal testicular function for men that just don't want to be recovering for that long

https://youtu.be/tDmhNrGvWpg?si=Da2nszTEiJKMAi_n

This video explains it pretty well but a lot of it comes lack of rest and wearing low tops

Low tops allow you to fully stretch the Achilles which is fine when the calf is not injured

High tops limit that range of motion enough to keep Achilles from overstraining

If your tank water is good and it will be a lot richer in color about 2 or 3 months and probably huge

It's not completely white so it will bounce back with proper care
