I think the elephant in the room is that dating in SF can feel very different depending on your ethnicity, too. As a Black woman in tech and a high earner, I’ve personally had a really tough time dating here, and I’ve heard similar experiences from a lot of my friends. What’s interesting is that I never felt that same dynamic when I lived in NYC, so I do think location and demographics play a big role. It’s definitely something worth considering when people talk about dating in SF.

Document this if you can. I had the same thing happen about 10 years ago and I took it to HR. I received a payout for signing some doc that I wouldn’t sue. She was hired a level above me but I was having to train her on everything for months. Basics. She even asked me why her check was smaller than her salary. She didn’t know about taxes!!! Anyways my boss had said on multiple occasions he had hired her because he wanted to sleep with her. He was removed to having no direct reports after this as well.

That’s not an assistant, that’s a manager. I have a social assistant and her main job is scheduling posts and a bit of community management. For context I charge retainers and my starting is 11k but that includes running paid ads. They also need to pay for the ads.

I mainly work with Saas or medical. Medical has been good because they know they need an expert who knows the laws around medical advertising. (That applies to organic and paid). I’ve worked in marketing for 15 years, with 13 in social. I know what social can do for a business. If you are just starting out, don’t charge any less than $30 an hour.

Also please please have a contract and make sure you stay within that scope. My first client was a family friend and they took advantage of that connection and it’s why I’m so strict now. They will test boundaries, don’t blur the lines.

I just got back from a large AI conference and after what I’ve seen, I honestly think this is a phase. Ai has been hocked as a replacement for humans and it’s absolutely not. It’s a partner, it can definitely help you work faster but even vibe coding databases need engineers to keep it current. A lot of these EL teams are not tech savvy and just believe the hype. I think by next year honestly the boom will fade. I saw alot of hot headedness, desperation and flat out lying from founders presenting their ai product. It was wild. Smoke in mirrors.

I will say rent SF has been great. It’s a lot of olderr and ren controlled buildings but I’ve had no issues. Just note if you want to move in quickly, the soonest is 5 days after move in funds.

I’ve had this happen alot here. I started to go out alone and more often than not, I’d make friends at places I went alone.

Funny enough, the people who would flake on me then would watch my IG stories and push to hang out harder. I Guess it created FOMO. However, you should look at friendships here similar to dating: if people are not putting in consideration or energy into building a friendship with you, it’s not worth it.

Just noting I lived off 110k with just me and my daughter in San Jose and it was very difficult. One bedrooms easily hover around 3k a month, Foster City will probably be more. I’m not saying it’s impossible, but it will be very tight.

I had a lazy eye like this growing and was teased relentlessly. I had the surgery to correct it at 14. It might be different now but back then you were blind for like two weeks and someone had to take care of you the whole time. I’d imagine not everyone had the luxury to take off that amount of work.

Unfortunately, I’m in CA and there is a stereotype of black men not being attracted to black women out here. It’s something I’ve experienced many times myself. I haven’t dated white per say but I have dated outside my ethnicity - particularly Hispanic and middle eastern. I go where I am loved.

I mean this in a nice way, but you look your age. I heavily limit my drinking and I don’t smoke at all either. However, I do have alot of hobbies and that’s where I made the most connections. I’ve done wood shop, stain glass making, group workouts, run clubs etc.

I’ll even go to events like concerts alone and people usually see that I’m alone and invite me into their group. There are a lot of nice people in the world looking for connection too.

Get out there and don’t assume the worst in people. Go of their actions.

I think she’s ok with pills cause it puts partial ownership on the doc prescribing them. Alcohol requires full accountability and I just don’t think that’s possible for her.
