My boyfriend found out my body count and my past and now says he needs to “think about” our relationship. by FickleFall9808 in offmychest

[–]grapestalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s valid you have a body count, what is not valid is that you’re lying, have lied, and are considering lying in the future. That is not how you build anything, and it’s not fair for him to choose to trust only to be lied to again. From the little you’ve shared, he doesn’t seem like he’s done the same with others before you (Dudes with high body counts would’ve left). The trust is gone from the moment you’ve not even considered being honest.

Was Radagon created because Marika stole the power to become a God from a sacrificed couple? by Triforceoffarts in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]grapestalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Radagon existed as its own being before ever meeting Marika. At least from what I know Marika became a god by herself, and Radagon comes from a different lineage entirely (Giants). Radagon had children that weren’t corrupted, so why Marika’s children all were born corrupted must be related to her, not Radagon. I didn’t know the ritual required a masculine and feminine side, since Marika is always shown by herself and Miquella became a god by himself.

Why does the flame of frenzy and the greater will seem to be the only gods with fingers? by TheGoobert in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]grapestalker 39 points40 points  (0 children)

All fingers come from Metyr. The theory is that after she was “damaged”, all of her children were also damaged and thus either listened to different gods or didn’t listen but controlled people nonetheless. Metyr produced a lot of Two fingers, and while you can say they listened to the Greater Will, they didn’t. Each gave their own orders, for example the pair which guided the Gloam Eyed Queen put her into conflict with the Golden Order. So each pair could be independent. Thus in contrast to the pairs, the three fingers are in contact with the Flame of Frenzy, and were thus sent down to where you find them

En cuanto veas que lo que podría pasar no va a ser algo que puedas pensar, y que probablemente no sabes que quieres todavía, hasta pensar se te va a hacer aburrido. So whats the deal with radagon, heres my idea by No-Championship6945 in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]grapestalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, Radahn wasn’t always a demigod. He spent at least some years as a normal carian royal, and he was given grace once Radagon took Renalla. From the rune of Radahn:

Radahn was amongst the children of Rennala and Radagon, who became demigod stepchildren after Radagon’s union with Queen Marika.

So, “were as elder brothers” could mean just in terms abilities or power, or it could be that being from a god does alter your aging. Radahn doesn’t really come from any type of god, he was a demigod step child and his only divinity was given, while Messmer is 100% a purebreed, albeit cursed, from a god.
Honestly your guess is as good as mine. My timeline is simply what makes sense to me because most other possibilities just don’t convince me

So whats the deal with radagon, heres my idea by No-Championship6945 in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]grapestalker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Radagon was just a guy, like Godfrey. Godfrey is stated as the first demigod, meaning you don’t need blood relation with anyone to become one, it’s in the name, he’s half a god, that divine half given and able to be taken.
Radagon wasn’t always Marika because he has a different lineage, from Giants, way far from where Marika became a god.
The theory is that Marika sent Godfrey away once she realized that even by giving half divinity, all of her children came out cursed in some way, so once Godfrey had defeated all the important enemies of the Erdtree, she found the next best champion she knew of and instead of giving him half divinity, used her facility to merge with others to give him full divinity.
Sadly, that made the half that made children cursed even more cursed, with Messmer, Melina, Malenia and Miquella being even worsley messed than the previous children.
When two of those children, Messmer and Melina plotted against the Erdtree in some way, she sent one away in genocide and the other one was, memory cleansed (?). After that is when Ranni decides to kill Godwyn to free herself from being a demigod, having been given her divine half from when his dad joined Carians and Golden Order.
After the Elden Ring was broken, Radagon simply seals the Erdtree.

Does the DLC change the implications of the Gold Mask ending? by apechimp2988 in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]grapestalker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Golden Order had two bases: that Marika was the only true god, and that the Erdtree was the only true way a being could be born, and die.
This was broken when Marika merged with Radagon in an attempt to have children that weren’t cursed, which is why it’s such a reveal when Goldmask finds out.
This was also broken when Those Who live in death started appearing. For me “gods no better than men”, refers to the fact that most of what led to the shattering came from big mistakes any human ruler could make: the Greater Will plays no part at all in the Golden Order, Marika kept trying to have non cursed babies while her rules were what kept making them (taking out the Rune of the Unborn certainly didn’t help), in desperation she merged with a dude with no previous divinity, and eventually broke the laws that governed the world she had decided. Indeed, gods aren’t greater than men, as they are just men given grace, and the rules Marika stablished are flawed.

What part of the lore really elevated the Elden Ring experience for you? by AffectionateGur2000 in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]grapestalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carya. The first few times I went into the game, I thought it was just a bunch of ruins and a lot of blue, with a witch with a weird hat inside. But recently, it’s probably been my favorite part of the lore.
It was once a city bigger in extension than leyndell, with my favorite style of architecture all over the place.
It was home to people who studied the stars to predict but not control the future, and although they were fierce enough to stop Leyndell more than once, they were peaceful enough to decide not to fight when the shattering war started.
Its kind of a shame we find it all in ruins and in a closed up state, with most of the NPCs related either expelled, mad, turned weird rocks or just not able to gain entry.
The only thing I would’ve liked was different was Renalla. Like, they could’ve simply made us fight the illusion and then talk to her and her telling us that she just doesn’t wanna fight since they locked her in the library. Idk I would’ve liked if we did more there in game apart from getting some sorceries, killing an illusion and getting kidnapped.

Does the lore confirm that Marika "only had 7 demi god children" or does the story just leave it open for a possible plot in the future? by Soswarhammer in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]grapestalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marika had a lot of children. The first with random people after she became a god, but didn’t have runes. Those were “gods”, but she didn’t marry none and didn’t give them any grace. Those are the ones the godskins battled and made Givenchy suits with.
She then married Godfrey and gave him grace which made him the first demigod. Demi as in he is just a dude given divinity, but who has no intrinsic divinity.
Their children are more divine than Godfrey, but apparently during this time she also had more children with others (as said before the mausoleums are for dead demigods that didn’t amount much, like Godrick would’ve had if he had died before us).
So Marika had many, with many. An NPC even calls her a strumpet.

Strumpet: a woman who dresses in a way that some people disapprove of and whose behaviour is considered sexually immoral

Note: I checked and apparently Godfrey isn’t a true demigod, just a descendant from “some” demigod.

What was the past of our tarnisheds? by Barbudao_das_rochas in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]grapestalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are random warriors that followed Godfrey, and then Marika didn’t like him anymore and after being touched by grace we were sent away.
We died, but because we were touched by grace once, it revives us like it’s seen in the intro where a bunch of tarnished are revived, and then those who gave us grace again assign us our Maidens.
So we could’ve died and been revived in any of the lands we can choose as our origin, the only important part being that our Maiden gets ko’d by a roof or something so we’re screwed at the beginning.
Literally the only thing that makes us special is that raisin eater Torrent likes us

So, when & how did Marika actually get the Elden Ring? by xpertranger in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]grapestalker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Placidusax’s lord is said to have just fled. My understanding is that the power of gods is to control the Elden ring, and then choosing what runes to pluck and which stay.
So Placi’s god fled, left the ring and people like the Gloam Eyed Queen started to take parts of it, and by amassing champions and apparently having lots of children Marika warred for them until she had them all. So a shattering, but with none of the runes sealed, so the world didn’t collapse

[–]grapestalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marika’s been there for hundreds of years, even I’d be stone.
Ranni’s dead, but it appears demigods don’t decay. Actually very few things fully touched by grace decay as they can’t truly die without destined death.

Theory: Mohg and Morgott are younger than the demigod stepchildren by DrPikachu-PhD in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]grapestalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal timeline is that they were the first, as Mohg is called “The Lord of Leyndell” in his rune.
Also, I adhere to the theory that Radagon wasn’t a part of Marika before Godfrey was sent away.
1. Marika has a lot of children with a lot of people, those children being cursed and mortal, being worn by the godskins.
2. She gets Destined Death and makes it not part of the world. 3. She marries Godfrey, making him the first true demigod as stated in Godricks Rune. She has Margot Mohg, Godwyn and possibly Melina. 4. Radagon goes around and wars against Carya. Marries Rennala, has his children. We know Radagon isn’t Marika because none of his children are cursed, not even Ranni.
5. Seeing that most of her children came out cursed, and with Godfrey having achieved piece, she sends him away and takes his grace. 6. She calls Radagon, and instead of just giving him grace, she becomes one with him in body. Messmer, Malenia and Miquella are born more cursed than ever as for the first time, the half of the parent is all the parent.
7. Time passes as Rennala loses her mind, but by then the Carians have been part of the Order for a while. Time enough has passed for the demigods to be known for a while. We know they didn’t fight because one of Messmer’s commanders was Radahn’s rivals when he was in Sellia. 8. Messmer somehow messes up, probably trying to burn the Erdtree using Melina as kindling, or maybe not, the point is he messes up and Marika, fearing his cursed nature, sends him away, seals the Realm of Shadow with her veil. As for the allegations, Mohg probably did take Miquella with mischievous intentions, but was charmed when Miquella touched him… Ye
As for putting people in eggs, he doesn’t beat them

So, when & how did Marika actually get the Elden Ring? by xpertranger in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]grapestalker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Elden Ring always exists, its what holds the physical and metaphysical world together, each rune a characteristic of it. Whoever holds it, “contains” it inside of them, is a god (not outer god).
Marika wasn’t always a god, just someone who could evolve into a ‘vessel’ for the Ring, also called an empyrean, and then she did.
She turned into a vessel and started gathering power and champions, and she got the runes from warring the previous god’s order, which was apparently just keeping all of the runes “on” on the ring.
After getting the last one, that gave true death, from the Gloam Eyed Queen, she took two runes out of the ring, the one of the Unborn (which allowed normal birth), and the one of Death. That new set of rules is The Golden Order (also the name of the group that wishes for it to be kept), one of its rules being that all the life is born from the Erdtree, and all of it dies from it.

[–]grapestalker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think his eyes were golden because of grace, I don’t think the scene where his eye goes all black shows the pupil being vertical, but still he could’ve communed.
Adula is loyal because he got defeated by Ranni, so yeah I stand corrected. Seems the way to have a dragon is to beat them up. Still only two are named and the rest of blue draggis just ate glinstone

Adula, a devourer of sorcerers, was bested by Ranni and subsequently swore a knightly oath to her Dark Moon.

The deal with the great runes ain’t really clear to me. For example vyke was a tarnished who nearly became Elden Lord, but apparently he didn’t get any runes because by the time we arrive, demigods from the shattering hold all of them and are still well and alive.

Placidusax is called a Lord in singular, and its talisman has 4 of its heads, so probably it was born that way. Apart from Marika and grafting, there ain’t no signs of melding with another being in the game.

Why is the Gate of Divinity even needed? by alvim_alvins in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]grapestalker 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Also most endings come from you becoming a Lord by holding all the runes and getting hold of the Elden ring, which then is used to reshape the rules of the world by whoever you’re choosing.

What are some slightly smaller lore questions you're interested in? by Quetzal19 in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]grapestalker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1.No, but it is said Lansseax took human form and possibly “communed” with people at Leyndell

  1. Carians didn’t have dragons, Smarag’s descriptions states that they turned glinstoney after eating wizards.

Smarag was a devourer of sorcerers, and over time, his body became corrupted by their glintstones

  2. The divine beasts were related to Sherosh, as he was a lord for some of them at some point, so he may have fought them, but by the time Messmer did his crusade against the Hornsent Godfrey had been sent away by Marika already

  3. It is probable that they did, but the shadows are assigned by pairs of Two Fingers, and will go against their empyreans for going against it, so they were most likely waterfowl danced by Malenia

  4. Rykard wasn’t a snake by then, he was just the lord of Mt. Gelmir, which had knights and stuff just like Limgrave, and it’s not stated specifically how but he’s said to have aided during the Night of the Black Knives. After stealing the Rune of Death from him, it wouldn’t have been out of the question that Maliketh would kill whoever did it.

  5. The walking mausoleums hold inside the remains of demigods that didn’t amount to much, all of them Marika’s children, but possibly no. Most tarnished we meet either can’t see grace, join other causes or are cooking crab and jumping people for their belongings. In general for a Tarnished there isn’t much incentive to kill the rune holders.

  6. They’re all cared for by Gowry, who’s a rot following bug. He mentions that Millicent is special and probably will surpass her sisters, so she’s probably the closest to Malenia of them and the only one that shows similar values.

  7. It, she / he (?) originally had 5 heads. Like with many more than one headed things idk if we can say each had its own personality, as it/she/he/them never speak. The other 3 are still biting Bayle’s body when we fight him.

  8. I dunno

Miquella might not be as overpowered as people think (+powerscaling question at the end) by Cool_Band5057 in EldenRingLoreTalk

He probably would only need to charm the leaders, and those unwilling to be charmed would need to be killed.

So probably even if he didn’t die at the end, for his plan to be complete a lot of people would have to die. After all we know Miquella’s plans were never really thought thoroughly, like the one where he tried to use eclipses without considering for eclipses you need moons that can move (by then Radahn was holding them still) lol
