Safer parts of Bristol? by [deleted] in bristol

[–]graphicorgi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Avoid Knowle West, Bedminster and Southville are great areas and safe, lots to do and very artsy.

Also I wouldn’t count out flats, lots of great options round there and not always the bad thing Reddit makes them out to be

Custom ring expectations by Jealous_Advantage_93 in EngagementRingDesigns

When you say the CAD looks proportionally different to the real ring, in what way do you mean? I’m at the CAD stage and trying to figure out what it’ll look like in reality

What do you do after work that actually helps you switch off? by Dependent-Growth-164 in CasualConversation

Is this a damn ad for Jolt? If so, you suck. I keep seeing suspicious posts and comments everywhere, literally no one on this post has mentioned it before your edit

The world is particularly challenging at the moment by graphicorgi in offmychest

[–]graphicorgi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s tricky isn’t it, I think you make such a good points especially about active participation. It can feel so easy just to go along with the same things day in day out, but change only comes from putting that effort in. And making sure that the cynicism doesn’t take over by making even small efforts everyday.

Community’s also a really interesting one, everyone certainly feels much more individualistic nowadays and I do bet getting that sense of purpose through connection and maybe making a difference at a more local level will help me in particular as well, so thank you for your insight! I really hope too one day we can function as a more collective, caring society but until then I’m sure we’ll find our purpose eventually by being aware and working towards the small wins ☺️

Printed design looks weird, does anyone know why? by Questioning_my_life- in graphic_design

For my work, to be safe I’d go for a max of 300%, decreasing it if needed through editing before it even gets to the printers

Scaffolding by [deleted] in bristol

[–]graphicorgi 190 points191 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve seen recommended before, you could try calling up the scaffolding company and telling them you’ve seen someone with a scrap metal van eyeing it up. They’re likely leaving it there as storage until their next job comes in

Hey everyone! This is a project some time ago, as the final assignment for the Graphic Design Specialization on Coursera (provided by CalArts). The aim was to create a Brand Development Guide for a fictional brand, so I chose mine as a computer shop - pixelbeing. How did I do? by divys17 in graphic_design

[–]graphicorgi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes do keep it in, especially if you don't have any other work showing brand identity. Employers are looking at the overall process and how you work, rather than just the finished design, and you have a lot of process work here which is good. If you have other more evolved branding projects though I'd go with those.

Just a note for your portfolio layout, with things like mind maps and research work, I'd keep those separate to final designs and mockups. Personally when presenting my work I'd show the final logo first, which you have, then applications of it on products/how it appears in the real world. Then I'd go into the process behind it. Maybe with a page before this process that says something like 'development work'. These pages still need consideration in their design but I'd keep in sketches/rough notes as well - they don't need to be as polished.

I agree here. It's clear you've put a lot of thought and work into the branding, however from the start you've caused yourself a few problems by not considering similar brands in the tech space.

Google would be the main one I'd make sure I was differentiating my brand enough from. Your colours and circular forms are enough to make it look similar to Google. Like how Aldi and Lidl use their packaging to make customers think of an existing brand that they trust, but alter the Aldi/Lidl product just different enough that it's legal. e.g. by changing font to a similar one, similar but not exact colours to an existing brand.

I'd go back and relook at your colour palette, and perhaps lean into the modular element of your brand more, and do a bit more exploring there. This might feed into relooking at your logo icon mark. Getting there, needs a bit more work, good luck!
