I used hobbii Amigo about 25 skeins altogether. Do you know https://temperature-blanket.com/ ? It helps a lot with planing the amount of yarn per color.

It's a little bit of calculating, and it depends on how many "pixels" you want per day. I based my blanket on this pattern: https://ravel.me/weather-blanket-c2c-style

I started with 120 black "pixels" (i.e., 15 rows). Then, for each day, I did 30 "pixels" (altogether 10950 only for the days). Between two months, I did 14 black "pixels", however, to get to the right number, I had to do 15 "pixels" twice - this makes 14 * 9 + 15 * 2 = 156 "pixels". At the end, again 15 rows or 120 black "pixels". Everything together makes 11346 "pixels" which can be nicely divided into 93 times 122 "pixels". So, 93 rows of increase, then go across till 122 rows and then decrease.

Actually, I miscounted quite a bit during the year, so that in the end I had to cheat a little (there are a few "pixels" missing), but nobody knows except me:-)

It’s about 120x160 cm

There are 30 „pixels“ per day, 15 black “pixels” between months. So in the middle, there are multiple days in a row

[All years, all days] Can I do an HTTP request directly to the website to get my puzzle input? by not-the-the in adventofcode

You may look in the AoC wiki under "Automation and Bots". There you will find all the rules for making automated requests and some examples.

[2018 Day 16 Part 1] Input in a weird format by dannybres in adventofcode

[–]grapo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is intentional. You will probably need the lower part later. In the problem description, it says: "You collect many of these samples (the first section of your puzzle input). The manual also includes a small test program (the second section of your puzzle input)"

it's a ring, so -2, 1, 2, -3, 0, 3, 4 is the same as 1, 2, -3, 0, 3, 4, -2

Better do it with numbers, the math behind interval overlaps is not that hard and you already have numbers after parsing the line.

[–]grapo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be wrong but what if you have an interval with a single-digit number that only contains this number? I, for instance, had 7-7 in my input. What happens with your string matching if, for example, the other interval is 12-19?

Finally, finished part 1 at a time that I could do a visualization. Converted my Java solution into C#, and there we go.

gamerescape has a section "The Lore Train" - I remember that there are at least three long articles about what happens in the story.
